Better Oblivion Community Center - Chesapeake Lyrics

To a world we'll not remember
When we're old and tired
We'll be blowing on the ambers of a little fire
We were the tallest person watching in Chesapeake
You put me on the shoulders so I could see

I was all covered in sound
Ear plugs so it wasn't loud
Swallowed up by the crowd
Didn't know what they were singing about
I can't hardly wait
For someone to replace

It was hot in the arena
Good men die like dogs
My hero plays to no one, in a parking lot
Even though there's no one around
He broke a leg and the house came down
A smattering of applause
A sliver moon and a cover song

Oh sweet child of mine
You're always hard for everything, never apologize
Oh sweet child of mine
Now you stand on the corner and hope you get recognized

I was all covered in sound
When you asked me to turn it down
Didn't even think it was loud
Can you hear it now?

je pense que ma famille n'est plus. le souvenir de "Oncle Bob" disparaitra avec moi. Qui étaient ces indiens qui devaient pêcher une drôle espèce de crabe dans leurs baie?

You know when a song makes you have a vision of a future moment in time? This song is doing that to me.

When I listen to this song, I see myself having suddenly been thrown into adulthood, my childhood is long gone; all of it simmered down to a distant memory that seems insignificant to me. It bothers me to think about how my childhood world will one day be reduced to something so blurry.
Anway, in the back of the car sits my child who is listening to this song. The music is the only little thing she is concerned about at all in the moment. This song makes an impression on her and it's engraved into a memory that she grows to cherish from her childhood. Just in awe at something beautiful and nothing else.
This song really just puts me back into moments like those. It reminds me of how my dad put just a couple old country songs on my mp3 player I had when I was little. Just playing it by myself created beautiful memories that make me emotional because it gives me back the feeling of being a child who knows nothing else but simplicity and tenderness.

Or what is required or needed on my end or yours. My email is [email protected] think it over together and get back to me if u do. March 25th at ur show ill be there.

Booked my tickets to ohio. Followed every prohect connor has ever done. Thats what turned me onto this. Been waiting see him again since bright eyes last albumn. I habe fallen in love with these two together. I hope they read these comments. On a project so new you two have fit together so perfectly. This song is what comes out of two seperate loves that come together to find a common moment to share. Bravo. Know im just one fan out of alot. But your journey has made the background music to my life. You wanted to create feelings thru music. You have created so so much more then that. If i ever get chance to talk to you i would explain. 15 years ive been supporting you. And now both of you. Thank you

    Knee deep in existential agony.

Takes me back to when I was a child living on the Chesapeake, for obvious reasons. Conor's Music has meant more to me then any other singular artist.

This is the most beautiful thing Conor has ever recorded. Make a Plan to Love Me was beautiful too, but this is Alexandra Leaving beautiful. And Phoebe is just perfect.

My sense of it is that it (or part of it) is to her dad (or parents) - the imagery of being on someone's shoulders at a show but with earplugs and not knowing what the words were about seems like a little girl on her father's (or perhaps mother's) shoulders at a concert. She has said that her parents were musical guides. Then there's the 'sweet child' and 'asked me to turn it down' lyrics that also elude to the parent/child thing.

    Tiny Marsh sweet!

    TheMusicMajor

la la I think it’s about someone’s first memory at a concert. Where the arena was huge, the stage was huge, the kid was on the parent’s shoulder, and it was a big deal. But now, the kid is grown and likes to listen to a street musician who isn’t heard by anyone, but the grown kid is there to listen to that musician. And that experience was just as significant as their first concert.it all eludes together.

    nick hawkins

@ tiny marsh . Thanks for the lyrics on all . Appreciate it

    J N

@la la i am maybe reading too much into this, also kinda doubt Phoebe would like to keep writing about her harassment experience but the lines:

    "Oh, sweet child of mine
    You’re always sorry for everything
    Never apologize
    "

    "Oh, sweet child of mine
Now you stand on the corner
    And hope you get recognized
    "

kinda seem to reference her relationship with Ryan Adams after the revelations and his albums being canceled, now "hoping to get recognized"

  22. Lucas Kibler

Two of my favorite songwriters in the whole world. This is spectacular.

My favorite on the album, nothing like a song that really makes you feel something.
