Benjamin Clementine - Phantom Of Aleppoville Lyrics

(We won't leave you alone, we want you to die, we won't leave you alone)

Oh leave me, oh leave me, oh leave me, leave me
Oh love me, oh love me
Oh leave me, leave me, oh leave me, leave me
Oh love me, oh love me, leave me alone

O Billy the bully
Come on out of your hideout
Billy the bully, it's alright
You've been forgiven
Come on now Zacchaeus
Come down from your sycamore tree
We're dancing, roses are found dancing

For me the difference between love and hate
Weighs the same difference between risotto and rice pudding
And the difference between a dog and a stranger
Weighs the same difference between children and bullying
Some say, they wonder why you bullied me, but I laugh
'Cause I know that you know that we will never never know why they hate the bullyings

Oh Billy (final balance, final balance)
It's forgiven
Billy bully, bully Billy
It's alright
No, it's fine

No, if the supremacy will come in, now congratulations
Let's hope as the growing grows we'll be able to handle

Billy the bully
Once a serious case
Once a forgiven case
Wonderings are never ending
The wonderings are never ending
The wonderings are never ceasing
The wonderings are never ending

Giving me that "Bram Stoker's Dracula" vibe... the Depth of concept elevates it further though.

  3. A.... M....

This Phantom is very short.. Be so kind and make a short film, I could stay and for 27 minutes

  4. V.... E....

    where guns sings

  5. s.... s....

Holy shit, that's amazing, hahaha! :)

  6. l.... M....

So he lurs you in with calme sounds and then throws you in what seems like a place of darkness then slowly pulls you out back into a light brighter than you ever knew.

  7. i.... y....

    muhteşem işler yapıyorsun

  8. M.... K....

Is he comparing what happened to Syrian ppl and he’s being bullied ?

  9. I.... V....

I really don't understand all the love for this second album. People are saying he's a genius. Despite loving the first album, I found I tell a fly musically jarring. This song being prime example around the 1.50 mark. There's no doubt Clementine is musically gifted, but suddenly songs can go from beautiful to downright silly. Some songs I feel are more suited to performance poetry rather than fully formed on a musical level. Which is why I'm so frustrated as I know he is musically gifted and a lot of effort has clearly gone into this record. It's almost as if he has strolled into the record company and said here you go and everyone has gone.....yes Benjamin that's great, amazing stuff. Someone needs to say...hang on i think this bit sounds a little silly. We let you have your 'tea and croissants' track on the first album. I mean, Paris Cor Blimey. The lyrics seem like silly nonsense to me. Maybe I'm not smart enough to appreciate them? I've listened to the album quite a few times, had a break and just come back to it now to have a listen and still can't connect with it as a whole record. I'm open to different sounds and try to get away from conventional western verse-chorus music, but like I say just can't past the jarring silliness and his occasional odd pronunciation. Hopefully the 3rd album will be more refined. He's at his best when just sat at a piano. Apologies , rant over!

  22. L.... D....

On more serious note... i was bulied in school. This song expresses my feelings so well. The conflict between memories that torture me and my will to let go and forgive.

  23. L.... D....

On another video’s comment section people were commenting that he is a vampire. This definitely proves that theory right.

For a moment I saw beyond the vail before I was thrown back into the void of ignorances. I’m left with only sorrow knowing that I knew but for a brief moment.

My how the moon looks lovely from afar.

  29. A.... E....

  40. s.... ....

    mindblown. soulblown

  41. a.... ....

I am certain Mr. Clementine is tired of this comparison, but he truly is the Nat King Cole of my generation. I am not about to impose on an artist to say they inspire me but I feel rested by this body of work. It's okay to finally relax. No ass kissing, you know?

  42. J.... P....

He reminds me of Nina Simone and Screaming Jay Hawkins. He has this aura about him. He is so unique.

I can see him playing Count Dracula.

  43. J.... P....

He would be a fantastic count dracula.

  44. B.... G....

  80. M.... ....

Benjamin Clementine's music is the perfect combination of beaty and quirky

  81. N.... P....

    este señor es lo máximo

  82. L.... M....

When your spirit is free, creativity of this order becomes possible. Like all geniuses a little madness is in order- also.

  83. 7.... ....

    it elevates me ;)

  84. M.... L....

0:54 is my favorite of this song. The sound is very familiar but I am not sure what other artist nor song.

    M.... L....

Yes, this piece should have its own song!

  85. u.... m....

    Mis oídos agradecen esto!!

  86. N.... L....

Wow! What a great rock masterpiece!
When we'll see a tour in San Fransisco?

  87. S.... ....

He gets me. And I get him.

  88. t.... ....

Clementine composed this song after reading the work of psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott, who wrote about children who have experienced bullying in the home and at school. He related the experience of these kids with his own childhood. The "little city of Aleppo" symbolizes the place where bullies are encountered.

  89. L.... B....

Maravilloso! me toca las fibras mas profundas de mi ser ❤

  90. S.... S....

Sorry....wish I got it, but I don't. Nice voice, good looking guy. A "song"? About what? Minimal melody, repetitive accompaniment, the usual, dreamlike video stuff...

    S.... S....

What don't you get? Agreed. Song about Bullying. The minimal melody is intentional, and I dunno how the accompaniment can be considered repetive since this song has no traditional verse chorus structure.

  91. H.... ....

I am hooked to this song, this is like storytelling revived.

  92. D.... D....

... this is so damned beautiful.

  93. l.... d....

    Crea pura arte, il migliore

  94. D.... D....

I just heard his music for about half and hour and now I'm so into him, He has such strange beauty that provokes a very deep attraction type, not superficial but human... Gosh is beautiful to feel this way, thank you Benjamin.

  95. E.... G....

    Why he is so underrated?

  96. F.... C....

Certamente o músico mais genial do nosso tempo. Simplesmente fantástico!

  97. s.... ....

Love the slightly disturbing quality of this juxtaposed with the beautiful piano
