The second half of this song doesn’t suit the first half.....
Sorry but I’d prefer this song without the last few minutes.....
But the first half is absolutely fantastic.

The first time I heard this song I thought Tracy Chapman had released something new. They sound so much alike, the voice similarities are astounding, the sound too, even though Chapman is slightly more melodic in her melodies.

Someone told me I would like Ben Howard, so I have spent the evening listening to him and trying to understand why I don't.
The comments here are mostly valid, as they are personal experiences with his work. The ones stating things like "greatest of our time" and such are just silly.
He reminds me of a weak Damian Rice, with a dash of Dave Matthews and a squeeze of Jack Johnson. Though I came to despise Jack Johnson, the combination of the other two isn't necessarily a bad thing. But Ben Howard's song writing is lacking for me - it's simple in structure and I'm wowed at no point (no, not even when he shouts into the guitar). And lyrically he seems to be singing for the masses more than from the soul - but if it creates the illusion well enough, and doesn't grate the intellect, it can be a nice little earner).
I'd not give this video a thumbs down - but it ain't a masterpiece of our time that's for sure.

@Gabriel Johansson I'm not sure it does. He says he plays with heart and soul, but I don't think there are many artists alive today that wouldn't say that to be fair.

@Guillermo Martín I just gave it a listen, with lyrics, and I respectfully disagree. Perhaps you found a connection with it, but it is subpar in my opinion.

Thanks for trying but I give up on him. There is way too much great stuff out there, I simply don't have time for him. I only see hype.

@Guillermo Martín sorry, but the consistent reference to "real music", implying that he has discovered some secret formula, isn't winning him over for me.
I can't rate him higher than a weak Damien Rice. You may beg to differ, but I'm sorry I listen to an enormous amount of music, and this guy just doesn't impress me.

Ben's good, but he ain't great. Maybe he'll impress me with something one day, but so far it is not.

Im the same i only discovered him about 2 months ago and was blown away. The first thing i saw him sing was a cover of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call me maybe" which is not a good song or so i thought untill i heard Ben's version and it just totally blew me away.

one of my favorite songs. had to come here after hearing what happend to kobe and his daugther. we are used to believe life is fair, or that things work out. but tragedies like this make you realize theres no fairness. i wish his family the very best. rest in peace my mentor.
