Bellamy Brothers, The - Old Hippie Lyrics

He turned thirty-five last Sunday
In his hair he found some gray
But he still ain't changed his lifestyle
He likes it better the old way
So he grows a little garden in the back yard by the fence
He's consuming what he's growing nowadays in self defense
He get's out there in the twilight zone
Sometimes when it just don't make no sense

He gets off on country music
Cause disco left him cold
He's got young friends into new wave
But he's just too friggin' old
And he dreams at night of Woodstock and the day John Lennon died
How the music made him happy and the silence made him cry
Yeah he thinks of John sometimes
And he has to wonder why

[Chorus:]
He's an old hippie and he don't know what to do
Should he hang on to the old
Should he grab on to the new
He's an old hippie...his new life is just a bust
He ain't trying to change nobody
He's just trying real hard to adjust

He was sure back in the sixties that everyone was hip
Then they sent him off to Vietnam on his senior trip
And they forced him to become a man while he was still a boy
And in each wave of tragedy he waited for the joy
Now this world may change around him
But he just can't change no more

[Chorus]

Well, he stays away a lot now from the parties and the clubs
And he's thinking while he's joggin' 'round
Sure is glad he quit the hard drugs
Cause him and his kind get more endangered everyday
And pretty soon the species will just up and fade away
Like the smoke from that torpedo...just up and fade away

[Chorus]

Be sure to check out the other 2 versions of "old Hippie" There is a 1,2, and 3! The old hippie where they turn 55 instead of 35 like in this song is my favorite. Singing about life putting him through the ringer and trading in his bong for time with his grand kids as he rides his harley through the country trying to make things right before he goes knocking on heavens door!! Love Love LOVE that version!

World Peace is not what the Elite want. We were fucked over many years ago under a false matrix. If you do not believe me, watch A Call For An Uprising and RichieFromBoston.... I swear to you, they are worth watching. Please, Johnny. Bless you, man.

    Jaf Faj

I was wondering the same thing. It must have been flagged recently - I watched Spadecaller's video last year, and it wasn't 'inappropriate' then.

  39. Volunteer Patriot

Why is this song age-restricted? :( Too many thin skinned people running loose.

I'm an old hippie and a veteran, my husband was an old hippie and a veteran who went one way and I went mine. Thanx to VN:(. PTSD affects not just the VN vet but everyone they touch. What ever happened stayed there, and also stayed in the soldier's mind. Pay attention to your soldier today. War is still Hell. The veteran's administration has programs to help de-program. No stigma there.

Dad was early Vietnam era (age). Tried to join the Navy after high school ("60 or '61) but he didn't hear good enough to let him in.

I asked about 15 year ago.

He has friends (and friends who have passed) who went.

None of them were killed there that I know of.

Told me that he wonders what he would have done. Fight or run? And he'll never know.

Impossible to know unless you were there.
