Beirut - Cliquot Lyrics
A plague in the workhouse, a plague on the poor
Now I'll beat on my drum 'til I'm dead
Yesterday, a fever, tomorrow, St. Peter
I'll beat on my drum until then.
What melody will see him in my arms again?
Set fire to foundation and burn out the station
You'll never get nothing of mine
The pane of my window will flicker and billow
I won't leave a stitching behind
But what melody will lead my lover from his bed?
What melody will see him in my arms again?
I'll sing of the bottles of wine that we left on our old windowsill
I'll sing of the years you will spend getting sadder and older
Oh love, and the cold, the oncoming cold

Someone else think this melody sounds similar to "hey orpheus" of Arcade Fire? :o

ça me rappelle tellement de souvenirs
dumanı keeeee
Who else hears "Napoleon" in that last line?
Wait...That isn't Zach singing here? Is he doing the back vocals?
Yes, he sings and plays all the instruments of the disc.
see, back in the day, my friend linked this song, but the link died, and now as much as i enjoy the song, it is not the same.
The lead singer of this song is Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear. Check his discography, they are very good too.
The lead here is actually Owen Pallett
Why is it not Zach singing?

*just a fyi on those lyrics:
i'll beat on my drum until then
&

Biberine gazinaaaa, cobuna sopasinaa!
Beirut is Just fucking amazing!
You're right man, I listened to this song for almost two years thinking that was sung by Zach, haha.
Yeah, is credited in the booklet.
Are you sure mate? I listened Owen Pallet's live versions of this song and his voice is thinner than Zach's voice
Ireally enjoy the end of this song.
love this!!! 333
No dislikes!
Owen Pallet
u should dowload the right tags or buy the fucking cd.
Early 1900's, may even earlier than that, that was beach ware for those not swimming. Modesty who needs it Lol I am kidding at least I think it is.
THIS IS THE PENALTY!
and i learned that it isn't zach that's singing
habitatskater360 Apparently it's Owen Pallet, a Canadian. Although the version from Cheap Magic Inside has Ed Droste from Grizzly Bear. Grizzly Bear is a truly amazing American band and I recommend everyone check out Painted Ruins. It's a modern classic album and I've heard little like it.
is zach condon gay? what's with him referring to his lover being male in this song?
He's singing from the perspective of Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot about her husband Francoise who died suddenly of typhoid in 1805.
no it looks like a boy dressed as a girl
i love the picture
@RelentlessBoner It's I'll beat on my drum until then
@sonoskay I think he just likes to put weird photos as his cover art.
Awesome song, what made you think he's saying "I feed on my drum"? Are you retarded?
If I was his lover I would join him in the streets and die in his arms...
love this style
Untill nwo.. i thought the cover art was of a soldier holding a woman or a child in his arms or something.. now that i look closer i notice its onky one person.. in high heels... now i have no clue whats going on in the cover art.
love this band
they need to make a real video! they could do so much with it :)
such a sad and yet beautiful song!
