Beck - One Foot In The Grave Lyrics
There's s dead hobo on the patio
And an old barbed wire on the funeral fire
Well, you roll out the carpet and it better be red
And it better be long cos the troubles in my head
Gonna be livin' one foot in the grave
Well, I was sittin' at home cookin' up a steak
Satan came down dressed like a snake
Well, he called my name as I turned up the flames
And then I realized I was out of mayonnaise
Well, you been livin' one foot in the grave
Yeah, don't go throwin' no coupons on my grave
Don't go carvin' no happy face on my tombstone

Holy hell, 32 tracks! I forgot about that!
I wish beck was still good
He sucks ass now
He should visit Calvin a K records and make something real and human
You crazy, dude got an insane discography old and new. I’m a new fan so no nostalgia faggotry here
mis cacahuetes están llenos y buscan una caricia de proporciones épicas

I was playing Street Music one day in Oly Wa Where Act 3 was... the dollar theater for us lessers Made some cash after shows playing street music ( if you are new here it was the early 90's we had culture and voice ) My crowd was Hijacked by this guy lol Did not know who he was til when got home and a buddy told me Our buddy K was making a Spin with a guy from that Mary lou Lord Show we all dug ... lol it was Beck Hanson..... We were never friends... just a story..... But this album was recorded at K Records OLY WA in that span..... I still Busk Busk on !!! Also later this record would be the Beginning of my marriage and the end as well.... Song writers know things
RIP Daniel Johnston....After listening to Hi how are you, it made me want to listen to Steropathic Soul Manure which then brought me to this gem. Both true artists that have shaped my adolescence. All three albums bring joy, a nostalgic feeling, and a welcomed melancholy. I close my eyes and see water. --stay good friends.
Don't put no coupons on my grave....lol
opening song gave me Ry Cooder vibes ♥ really love this album
Cellphones, internet and all that screwed up a lot of our best ways of interacting with music.
I see lots of people wishing to be back in the 90´s.. but I believe living in a smaller town, being lucky enough to have a out of the ordinary local music scenery going on, and chosing not to use a smartphone can give you much of what you miss from those times.
I've opted out of larger towns back in the 2014, grew my hair back at shoulder length and limited my cellphone/internet usage..
I have a blast most days. and It feels like home when I do.
(Ps. I was alive and 'gigin' in the 90's, I speak from an empiric perspective)
Жесть как круто
like a pigeon you'll fly
This is the best Meat Puppets album Beck ever made.
Wow this does my soul good to hear. Thanks for posting. So many gems in this one.
I used to listen to this so much in college. Folky, simple and hilarious.
You from OLY?
Bought this cd at a peddlers mall and for some reason half of these songs are missing
My personal favorite album from Beck next to Sea Change
Hwen i am painting ai lissen to your musik it is verry giving.Når jeg maler så er jeres musik meget givende. Danish.
you slowed it down too fuckkkingg much .
Beck made more sophisticated records, but the pre Odelay stuff was the most fun
"Mattress" -- 42:20 . i love it
"Atmospheric Conditions" (Beck/Calvin Johnson) -- 35:02 .. incredible song funking beck genio
"It's all in your mind" from SEACHANGE.
The opposite, actually.
Roll out your silver dollar coffins, roll out your buckskin gloves.....
that's n' angela' cat' ss
This album brings back good time memories.

I somehow have never heard the whole version of this album O.O
This takes me right back to the mid 90s when I first heard it, and sounds exactly like I felt then.
I was probably...12/13 years old?... At Tower Records, looking for Mellow Gold ("Loser" was my favorite music video on MTV at the time).
Picked up OFITG by accident. The cassette wasn't even marked. Brought it home, listened to it twice, hoping maybe "Loser" was on there and that I had missed it in my haste.
Discouraged, I retired the cassette.
Brought it out years later, but this time listened to it 10 times in one day. It's my favorite Beck album, but I recently realized that Stereopathetic Soulmanure is right up there as well.
These extra tracks are a great bonus. The man's a true artist...
The songs after Atmospheric Conditions aren't on the original CD release, at least the one I bought a couple of times when I when I was a kid. It's really cool to hear this.
parts of this remind me of Ween. Some songs sound like they could as well have been on The Pod or Pure Guava :)
Beck is definitely one of the best singer-songwriters of this generation. He's been killing it for over two decades. His music fills me with inspiration and comfort.
i mean his newer stuff is kinda garbage but i agree he is one of the best musical artists from the 90s
This is what music should always be free spirited and expressive. Thank you. I love this album.
people use the comment section on youtube in the depth of being alone
I know you is ..... but what am we?
!@@#$%;n love this album to death. St Patty's day spin oof on me own drinking cheap Scottish beers n waiting oot on me b-day on the 19th, turning 35 this year. Yea, I'm a weird one, fo shizzy.
This is easily the best Beck album. Mellow Gold, second.
Totally agree
Burnt orange peel is friggin awesome!
"She dangles carrots, makes you feel embarrassed"! I laughed soo hard the first time I heard this CD, nothing like Beck, thank you for the memories!
To be the fool you know you are... wiser words have never been spoken.
I miss pre 96 Beck
I love Beck, have for the last 10 years but I know so little. First time listening to this, needed these songs right now. I love Beck.
Schizophrenic Bod Dylan
close my eyes and im pissin on them colldge kids door from 4 years ago again...from the inside of the room
Damn,I'm an asshole
High school soundtrack. Or, the soundtrack to my junior year of HS. Thx Beck!
I got an original sealed copy of this on cassette in a cassette grab bag from K Records. I have not opened it yet and I am glad I can listen to it here.
Don't open it either! I had a couple like that and I always regretted opening them, it seems like they get ruined or stolen when you start listening to them!
I think it's badass that the wide receiver for the Detroit Lions featured on a Beck album.
I got a funny feeling they've got plastic in the afterlife
Definitly. This is the wrong place to be : There's blood on the futon, there's a kid drinking fire.
Non-Euclidian lyrics.
george carlin
beans..
Pure musicality.
Its cool Calvin was on this track. I think Calvin is a dick but I still dig it...
I saw Beck back in the day at this little club in Seattle when I was living in Kirkland, Wa. Great album. I loved these first 2 albums but I think Odellay sucked...
I put this on and close my eyes and I'm back in the mid 1990s, tripping around in some field at night, staring up at the stars.
The Guitologist accurate af
That's how we got here?
And no internet. Just you and your cd playing in the room. It was easy.
Good times. I know every generation says their music was the best. I think that cause as a teen learning, music is kinda a sountrack that takes you back. Rambling sorry. The 90s was awesome. Kinda cool kids now are discovering my jams
wastoid
I liten to this when i'm depressed. lol have a nice day
my eyes teared up ,first time I heard whiskey can can
Crazy that this is over 20yrs old. I remember picking this up in high school and it blowing my mind.
The dude on Forcefield singing backup sounds so much like Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon
Noah Webb it's actually Chris Ballew from the Presidents of the United States of America.
managed to get this on vinyl from Amazon. I don't buy vinyl often but this album is terrific from start to finish
Sometimes this foot is better off compared to what the other is in.
I didn't recall "It's all in your mind" being on this album. It's better than the version on Sea Change IMO.
It's only on this special edition one which is twice as long.
@MantorokTrout yup, I realized that as I listened further. I'd like to get this sometime. It's a far more complete work than the original release.
MetalSlugzMaster Its also on the Japanese printing of this record, along with Whiskey Can Can and Feather in Your Cap.
Beck's best pre-Odelay low-fi work in my opinion. I could imagine so many people who listen to mainstream music saying "wtf, this is just crap". Well, it's some of the best "just crap" you'll ever hear if you give it a serious listen to all the way through.
He started debasing after Mellow Gold IMO... to the point where it's just another generic pop singer now....
colors is the first beck album i genuinely disliked. modern guilt had a stupid scientology vibe that turned me off but still had a few good songs.... colors just depresses the shit out of me. so overproduced and not inspired at all
@Franz Farmer god i hope beck is really just being ironic and we see a return to form in a way. Maybe a hair metal album, or a classic rock album, or something of that nature. i would actually love to see some symphonies from beck, with his vocals laid over epic piano tracks and choirs and shit
@CaligulaClone Modern guilt is defintly the sad, depressing one to me, and it was a long time coming album. It really made me doubt he would make something I like ever again. Colors isn't his most inspired record, but it's still closer to old Beck stuff. Funny lyrics and well produced. I liked it a lot.
Oh my God Beck is a genius!
who's the dude in the picture with Beck? is he blind? great earl work
+MrBlogadelic He's James Bertram, he played bass on some tracks. He's not blind lol. I think he's looking from the corner of his eye.
Ahh...gotcha. Thanks.
This is one of my favorite albums of all time.
lady space same. So many memories, old and new.
That's Cool
Me too i own that Koolaid scarf hes wearing
but his new album makes me cringe and cry
I miss the old beck =(
really sounds like early modest mouse
I love modest mouse. So many memories
puget sound
really sounds like early modest mouse
Early modest mouse really sounds like Beck
that's because Calvin Johnson sings on and produced both this and early Modest Mouse
Beck actually rhymes something with "Orange" on "Sweet Satan." Wow!
all the way!
What happened beck? The guitar on this and the songs are so great. Everything after this was over produced as hell. Not that it's all bad but this is magic.
Jeff Klassen i understand where you’re coming from except i don’t think anything happened to beck besides wanting to expand his music to different sounds/lyrics just like every other genius :)
He growed. So his music growed with him.
Love the untuned guitars in this album
Scientology, maybe. I don't know when that happened.
hollow log
Mad underrated, this album's the shit
No by me it wasn't... This was actually my first cd i bought of Beck and it turned my world around, at that time our Belgian band Deus was the only thing that was just as creative. To me Beck and Deus opened up a can of 90s vibes and pioneered right then and there with their original, stylisch, lyrical story telling-songs.
I once played a song of this album on one of those modern day juke boxes at a restaurant pool hall. A bunch of people acted like I was screwing up their good time. Assholes is what they were
truly sir, truly
You did. Lol most definitely.
Joseph Coyle lol yeah beck isn't for everyone. Take it in slow like coffee.
Nope. Not good pool hall music. You failed.
_You’ll do anything_
_To make them feel like assholes_
High School!
+Gary K Stay up all night gettin drunk, Sleepin ona hollow log!
#500 to like this; Genius album!
top five albums on my list...getting fat on your own fear
ありがとうございました!
I can't stop listening to Hollow Log, it's so poignant.
voila un français !
stopped listening at Odelay...Beck shoulda replaced Kurt Cobain in NIrvana back in the 90s..
Beck actually performed with Nirvana one time
Calvin only gave me the 16 track tape version, that cheapskate.
Micah L That's the only version that was out for over 10 years. the one we're listening to is a deluxe edition, from 2009
This is one of my all-time favorite albums. I first heard it back in 2002 after cyanide breath mint was used as Ethan Fowler's song in some old skate video. Beck lead me down a path of my preferred music genre considered indie rock. Hope my girls check it out some day.
@Jon Campuzano Ethan Fowler always has good music in his video parts.
@Jon Campuzano This is also one of my all-time favorites. This album was extremely important for me as a teenager and beyond. Your story is exactly the same as mine. The skate video is Nervous Breakdown by Foundation.
@pilidium that's right!
Is this a new release or something? I don't remember a lot of these tracks being on this album.
Spencer Johnston yes. deluxe edition from 2009
This. This is one of my favorite albums ever. Every word is truth. It always comes back into my life at some point. <3
butterflyboof ❤️
Whoah. My version did not have this many songs on it.
What the fuck. How is there still Beck i've missed?
+Mike F This is the deluxe release. It came out in 2009. I have it on vinyl :)
so glad they didn't label this dude " grunge " Thanks for posting this one !
Here's the problem, in the past new music genres were used only to define a significant change in sound and or style of how the music was being composed and any additional instrument used to create it. Classical, Jazz, Country and the basic formula used to wright music in it's most popular genre is taken from it's sub genre. Rhythm & Blues had a baby and they call it Rock & Roll. Over the years genres like Thrash Metal, New Wave and Grunge are labels the bands at the forefront of their particular genre accepted only out of necessity to distance themselves from the horrible genres that were most likely still popular. New Wave avoiding Disco, Thrash Metal avoiding Glam Metal, Grunge avoiding Glam and Thrash Metal. My point is, the formula all these bands have used to wright their music is the same formula used in the well established and proven Rock & Roll genre. The bands who have survived the death of their genre and continue to be successful on some level today have always known their true genre. Beck and a hand full of other bands in the last 50+ years have slipped through the cracks because in the infancy of their success, the genre they most likely would have been filed under was no longer popular and any record label an artist signed with would never risk future record sales, so they made sure a talent like Beck would not be seen similar in any way to the current bands or genre failing on that same label.
@Ron Wonsley :)
on first listen of "Morning Phase " i thought it was just a watered down version of " Sea Change ",and that's being honest because i'm biased and in love with " Sea Change ". but i swear " Morning Phase" is just as good, maybe better. give it a few listens people. but i wonder if Beck will ever do a companion album to " One Foot " ??? :)
Andy Sparks God I hope so. this is my favorite Beck record.
I'd give Beck a grammy for this, not that new bullshit. Last good album was "Mutations".
Yes i gave them a chance but for some reason i dont like them... Guero was ok but thats about it. And then his song Mexico was fantastic
16??? WOW I've been listening to Beck since 1994... Im 42 now.. I loved Beck since back in the day cause my friends and i would smoke pot and trip out on Becks lyrics.... AHHHHH THE GOOD OLD DAYS !!!! Enjoy your life kid, you'll be 42 before u realize it . . Time flies
Yes !!!!! The 90's were the best.. I love Bush, Pearl Jam and my favorite is Stoned Temple Pilots....and Queens of the Stone Age is awesome too
Oh man, i loved the 90's and so money other people too.... Green Day in the 90's were amazing too... Especially around 92-95. WOW !!!!! And Layne Staley from Alice in Chains was amazing
+twentyarms quit at Odelay myself
I can ALMOST sing Calvin's part in I Get Lonesome, and only one other person in my choir class can sing as low as I can.
I honestly think Calvin Johnson has some kind of throat condition, because he sounds like the fucking postal dude.
In that respect, you're in the same boat as Kurt Cobain
+LukeDude759 I can sing Atmospheric Conditions pretty well. Now try Close to God, his pitch is shifted lower by a machine... haha
Wow, now i'll always see the postal dude as calvin johnson... thanks...
one of my all time favorite albums of all time.
Reminds me of my music
this is great, but his other albums, with him on the cover, are too!
My second favorite Beck record.
Thanks Goss for turning me onto this one in ole 95'---sitting on the old couches, jumping into the broken restorative air.
So very, very happy!
hearing "its all in your mind" was a pleasant surprise..I didn't know he had re-recorded it for Sea-Change..I like that version it was haunting..like walking around at night after a bad phone call.
i prefer this version, but it's good any way you cut it
Great comment.
Wish i still had this record
Sorry. I'll give it back.
@Ben Dover Do you know Frank Dover?
Do u mean Captain Over?
Frank is with the Lord now :(
gosh darn. outcome girl dreams painted eyelids. hard to beat that 1-2-3
HOLY SHIT CALVIN JOHNSON IS ON THIS RECORD
+inasummerway He owns K records, which signed this beck album
Beck sucked after this album. everything he did sucked after this.
no one should have ever heard of Beck, they did not put this album out until mellow gold became prominent. beck would have been great if he had never been famous
he should have been a barista living next door to calvin johnson the rest of his life
yeah his contract was ridiculously loose
+lawrencetboyer That song came out before this album....
This post reminds me of a catastrophic garage sale.
Nostalgia
I used to play this album to piss my roomie off back in college. He liked pop sh*t like the Goo Goo Dolls and Backstreet. Other than that he was cool. Hahaha. Good times. He's a Mighty Good Leader.
