Beautiful South, The - Let Love Speak Up Itself Lyrics

Don't whisper love and dream of wedding bells
Don't do all the talking, let love speak up itself
Let love speak up itself

So when you feel a little tatty and unhappy with your face
Let it breathe into us and put you back in place
Let it breathe, let it breathe
From the day it came into us till the day it wants to leave
For it will, it will go
And it will not say goodbye just like it didn't say hello
There will not be a send-off, a funeral or mass
Just a pathetic little vodka from a dirty little glass
'To the world's greatest mum
From the oldest swinger in town'

Let love speak up itself
Let love speak up itself
Let it rise up in the morning and take us for that walk
Let it do the talking when we're too tired to talk
When we're too tired to talk

And when you feel unhappy that I'm not the one I was
Let love rot inside and let love palm you off
Let it rot, let it rot
Let it take your feelings and tie them in a knot
In a knot, in a knot
Let it take your feelings and tie them in a knot
Hang them from a cleaver and say 'Look what we've got
A man and a woman and guess what they forgot'
'To the world's greatest mum
From the oldest swinger in town'

Let love speak up itself

Always loved Paul Heaton,,, saw him many times back in the early 90's,,,, but it's hard not to infer "To the world's greatest Mum, from the oldest swinger in town' isn't a jab at the stupidity of the working class who buy mugs, shirts etc with that kinda crap on it. Maybe I'm wrong,,, but it always seemed like that to me.

    4 people went north

  54. a.... d....

    4 people hsve gone north

  55. D.... P....

My god. The B. South really capture those feelings of lost, unrequited, or reality and humanity getting in the way of, love. If songs about love are trying to dissect, describe and represent those melancholy, heart-wrenching pangs, feelings and hollowness that love, its loss, or its frustrated expression make you feel, I believe that none does so more accurately than the beautiful south. Perhaps its universal, but its definitely an accurate rendering of the British experience of love at least.

  56. D.... P....

Hear hear. I can not believe how relatively few people know this band

  57. P.... b....

best gig i ever went to was the south, paul is the real deal not a upatea fuck has time for the fan who is not a fuck wit......

  58. B.... ....

A remarkable vocal performance by Heaton here, He is also one of the few writers to write REAL love songs, not those cliched, sugar coated ballads that get churned out by the record company production lines.

  59. l.... s....

My favorite song from Beautiful South...True gem of a song. Under estimated band

  60. D.... T....

    Beautiful song, beautiful video

  61. Z.... ....

My favourite song of theirs. There's just something so moving about it.

  62. R.... ....

Brilliant, I'll never get tired of listening to these guys

  63. S.... ....

...and his 3 solo albums, "Fat Chance" - "The Cross Eyed Rambler" - "Acid Country." (plus the upcoming "The 8th") Laurels/Past glories...? Nah

  64. M.... D....

It's brilliant that you can do that :)

  65. s.... ....

@thenadzman1 seen him live many times.... brilliant...

  66. c.... ....

    IMPRESIONANTEMENTE BONITA.

  67. A.... G....

  70. c.... h....

beautiful south are awesome so underrated its untrue have u heard paul heatons voice!!?? ...........................wow!

  71. r.... j....

3:43 -3:50 is the reason i love the beautiful south so much..the voice..the passion of Paul Heaton..what a song.

  72. m.... ....

what a voice what a man what a shame

  73. h.... ....

Have people heard the other version of this, where the female vocalist at the time (Briana Corrigan?) sung instead. Same music, different singer. Also incredible. It's super-hard to find online, I had to buy a couple of old albums from ebay to get hold of it. If anybody wants a listen, contact me :-)

  74. h.... ....

@crookylufc I KNEW I RECOGNISED THAT! AMAZING! YOU LEGEND! Also, have you heard the female version of this, released on just a few early copies of the album? It's also amazing.

  75. M.... B....

I love how they leave St Johns as if to go towards Stonferry, when actually the Haworth is behind them! They could've walked it!

  76. f.... ....

Oi cheeky! Actually my brother Mark is a scaffolder so you're not far off. Paul x

  77. j.... k....

alcohol wrote this song, well alcohol plus paul heaton.

  78. t.... ....

Nice song and video as well.

  79. s.... ....

    love this so much..

  80. N.... ....

@Sinead12ful totally, some groups make comebacks and the material is so poor compared to thier heyday, its sad for the fans, at least paul will be best remembered at the top of his game with classics like this.

  81. R.... H....

@xXmikeywafc10xX i spoke to Dave Rotherway the other day and he said no chance of a B.S. reunion.shame really. But sometimes it's best to have good memories.

  82. R.... H....

    @purplelady179 you have good taste!

  83. N.... ....

@Sinead12ful i agree, at least hes had a taste of the success, and hes not been influenced by drink or drugs, hes just a common bloke from manchester with a story to tell now, and its great that he still peforms, albeit in intimate venues rather than arenas.

  84. R.... H....

@01jnorth gotta agree with u there!

  85. R.... H....

@xXmikeywafc10xX it gets to all of us in the end.money is the root of all evil. But Paul is the nicest down to earth bloke in the world.

  86. N.... ....

i saw paul heaton about 3 months ago in the anvil pub in wigan, he was doing a solo tour of the north west..playing one night gigs..in shit pubs..for pennies..on a bicycle!..i asked him about a possible b.s reunion, and he replied, 'been there, done that, never again', so there ya go folks, the man has fallen on hard times, shame really.

  87. M.... U....

my favourite type of music is death metal, but these are by far my favourite band!!

  88. A.... ....

@cpome7 In good old Hull! I'm a student there :)

  89. p.... ....

man im only 16 but evan i know that paul heaton is a legend :D

  90. l.... r....

Never mind the songwriting, the voice is heaven!!!!

  91. d.... ....

    dwi'n crio eto..

  92. M.... ....

This song/video makes me miss home (Hull) for all the right reasons..!

  93. M.... N....

Paul Heaton has to be recognised surely by now, as one of the ELITE. A lyrical genius that that man is...from his first songs to the ones he still sings today. A contribution to music on a very grand scale. I am lucky enough to of been able to follow his career, as a young girl growing up, into the woman i am today, And musically speaking Mr Heaton has been a constant for me........

  94. S.... ....

    Paul Heaton = Lyrical Genius...

  95. R.... S....

great song , dont get lyrics like this anymore .

  96. M.... ....

Beautiful beautiful song, always sends shivers down my spine

  97. A.... ....

Lovely song, but what the %#!#& is up with the audio ads at the end of the freaking videos lately? Irritating in the extreme.

  98. D.... P....
