Beatles, The - You Can't Do That Lyrics
I got something to say that might cause you pain
If I catch you talking to that boy again
I'm gonna let you down
And leave you flat
Because I told you before, oh
Well, it's the second time I've caught you talking to him
Do I have to tell you one more time, I think it's a sin
I think I'll let you down (Let you down)
Leave you flat (Gonna let you down and leave you flat)
Because I've told you before, oh
You can't do that
Everybody's green
Cos I'm the one who won your love
You're talking that way they'd laugh in my face
So please listen to me, if you wanna stay mine
I can't help my feelings, I'll go out of my mind
I'm gonna let you down (Let you down)
And leave you flat (Gonna let you down and leave you flat)
Because I've told you before, oh
You can't do that, oh
(You can't do that
You can't do that
You can't do that
You can't do that
You can't do that)
Everybody's green
Cos I'm the one who won your love
But if they'd seen
You're talking that way they'd laugh in my face
So please listen to me, if you wanna stay mine
I can't help my feelings, I'll go out of my mind
I'm gonna let you down (Let you down)
And leave you flat (Gonna let you down and leave you flat)
Because I've told you before, oh
You can't do that

"You Cant Do That" Gals?
When someone ever asks why John Lennon was brilliant, just put on the Hard Day's Night album.
Another relatively unknown scorching Beatles song. Lennon shreds it ,the boys do the usual fabulous harmonies along with their trademark superb musicianship. They remain untouchable in their historical significance and impact. Our world still reverberates to their brilliance. :)

Is really that hard to understand?

Paul and George on those background vocals- those guys were brothers. George's voice coming through particularly loud.
Never get bored of the Beatles music. still listening 2019
American version: if I catch you with him again I'll have to pull up a chair and watch
One of their best. Lennon's voice is immaculate x

This *IS* the definition of *groovy.*
Totally Cool!😎. God Bless. ☮
I Definitely Agree! God Bless. ☮
A good early example of Beatle experimentation with music that works so well. Incorporating such a Motown feel. So Beatles. So brilliant.
Lennon's admiration of Motown/ Tamla really shines through here. This song could be the twin-brother of Marvin Gayes, " Hitch-hike."
147 dislikes!?!?!? Ohhhhh you cant do that!
NADIE, PERO NADIE LOS PODRÁ IGUALAR. SALUDOS DE CHILE.
Twenty to seven on Thursday morning my Beatles brain worm is back.
The tune of the piece "cause i'm the one who won your love" reminds me the chorus "Come on baby light my fire" by The doors
This song is busy in every way...no empty spaces...
I was in a lift on Monday night on my own singing this, I would like to think the security people who heard me would have sort out what I was singing on YouTube.
- Lead Vocal, Lead Guitar (solo) & Rhythm Guitar: John Lennon
- Bass, Backing Vocal & Cowbell: Paul McCartney
- 12-String Lead Guitar & Backing Vocal: George Harrison
- Drums & Bongos: Ringo Starr
Sooo ... who's playing cowbell ?
@Linda Brown if you look well you will see that it's Paul playing cowbell
I was so lucky to be just a kid with a transistor radio when this came out. A choice to be a kid then or now?......THEN. { John B. }

Whacking that cowbell like a bitch is the reason i love this song. Long live the fab four.
needs more cowbell.
Friggin' great song!
I remember playing in Liverpool in 64 I was 17 all the players thought Johns solo was great did manage to learn it myself years later was made up its not that difficult and I’m a. Bass player
I am dead this album is so freaking awesome
Does any band ever come close? Rolling Stones fans should consider how many Stones songs anyone knows after Brian Jones was ousted. Five or six songs? When was the last time, brothers and sisters? The Beatles forever!
I’ve had this guitar riff in my head for weeks and I just had to find this song again!! What a superb Lennon classic, and oh man.....the memories of listening to this song in Holland circa 1989, pure nostalgic heaven.
There were a bunch of other Beatles tracks that were released on a compilation album and I believe ‘Matchbox’ (Ringo on vocals, Carl Perkins writing credits) was on there too. Either way this song, Matchbox and a bunch of other singles that never made it to any of their official LP’s were put together and released on one of their compilation albums. I now know this track was on Hard Days Night as well but, as a 12 year old, I distinctly remember it from the compilation album, not their official LP release. It’s funny how our young minds remember something so vividly but yet I just don’t remember this song being on any of their official albums.
Then again, Hard Days Night wasn’t one of my fav LP’s either. Although I do remember playing “Tell me why” on guitar with my sister singing and me attempting to harmonize 🤣🤣
Lovely Ladies? If we are not there!...It's my fault!
BELIEVE ME? WE MEN LOVE YOU MORE THAN YOU WOMAN CAN IMAGINE!
It's simple! We men LOVE you woman! FAMILIES AND BABIES!
john lennon............more cowbell
Beatles Rock
Cool song ... John, as usual ...
124 deaf toned morons thumbed this down!!! LMAO!!! Go listen to your auto tuned dreck,,,
Love this song.
... because i told you before ... ohhh you can't do that ...
The first Beatles song that John played lead guitar on....and Ringo, I gotta fever....and the only prescription is "More Cowbell, Baby" !!!
George Martin told John he loved his vocal on this song. Of course, John was doubtful. What a masterful vocal on a great song. So brilliant. So "Lennon."
Their b sides were better than most artists a sides. This is a great example. Rockin' angry tune to the bone. Badass!
It's the second time...one more time than John needed.
I believe George Harrison absolutely loved this song, millions of us do as well. Bob.
This is better than the a-side (Can't Buy Me Love) and was featured a lot on tv performances and in concert during '64 and '65.
They are busy in this uni9 song...
is Ringo playing on a pot and pan?
should had been required more tracks than adding cowbell
I feel a LITTLE sad for people--especially younger ones-- who only really know late Beatles stuff
117 butthurt feminists😂
Great opening riff
All I have to say is one word.....Fantastic.
John was perfect here. This is such a great song. Even George Martin told him he loved his vocal on this one.
I LOOOOOVE THIS SONG ♡
MORE COWBELL
IF...John Lennon and George Harrison were still alive and IF...they would again be able to give concert tours, they would make so much money that they wouldn't be able to count it all! That's because people like myself would pay a lot of money to be able to go to one of their concerts and see & hear them play. (This is coming from a 68 year-old retired industrial electrician, who grew up, listening to their music)
Because they broke up and never reunited, they have a mystique other bands don't have. I honestly think if JL hadn't been murdered you would have seen some sort of reunion thing in the 80's. Even if it was just one charity concert, or something like it.
The first time I caught her should have been the last.
The Beatles forever
Underrated. SOOOO UNDERRATED
Could be taken as an early version of punk . Probably along with The Zombies song "Human", although that's a different matter with that one but obviously, in my mind, this has to be a precursor to punk rock. The Kinks and The Sonics mainly come to mind. This will have influenced The Kinks "You Really Got Me".
LOVE THIS!!!
The lyrics are so fucking disgusting
I absolutely loved playing this song on the radio during my time as an oldies radio personality in Greensboro/HighPoint/WinstonSalem NC and Roanoke/Lynchburg VA as well as other places.....what a great song!
Love it
Comment to my comment if you loved it
They should have played this fabulous song in the roof concert in 1969.
I actually prefer the anthology 1 version which has no cowbell or backing vocals. Kinda has more of a raw feel to it.
This remaster sounds very tin like.Drums are not dynamic enough.
People bitch about "Run For Your Life" & completely overlook this little ditty.
Bet this is lennons work, lyrics say it all.🤣
Ringo's strong beat powers this aggressive track. Simply masterful. Think Pete Best could play this? No, he can't do that!
And he's not as funny as Ringo
YOU Can't do that!
Cool.

I love this song!
Damn John you slay.
Damn jealous much john?
Where's the version with the reverb?
Billy Scheers sounds good here. LOL
One of the first Beatle songs I ever heard.
I'm still wondering what I can't do :/
OOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGgg that riff at the start
