Beatles, The - Three Cool Cats Lyrics

Three cool cats
Three cool cats
Are coming up in a beat up car
Spitting up a lift of candy bar
Talking on about how sharp they are
Three cool cats

Three cool chicks
Are walking down the street
Swinging their hips
Splitting up a bag of potato chips
I think cool cats really did flip
Three cool chicks
Yeah three cool chicks

Well up came that first cool cat
He said, "Man look at that
Man, do you see what I see?"
"Well I want that middle chick"
"I want that little chick"
"Hey man save once chick for me"
Hey, well three cool chicks
Three cool chicks

Well they love like angels from up above
And three cool cats really fell in love
But three cool chicks
Made three fools out of three cool cats
Three cool cats

Well up came that first cool cat
He said, "Man look at that
Man, do you see what I see?"
"Well I want that middle chick"
"I want that little chick"
"Hey man save one chick for me"
Yeah ah

Three cool chicks
Three cool chicks
They look like angels from up above
And three cool cats really fell in love
And three cool chicks
Made three fools out of three cool cats
Three cool cats

Three cool cats
Three cool cats

(Three cool cats, oh three cool cats.)

    L.... B....

LOL i just realized that. klaus voormann (one of their friends in Hamburg) made the covers for all the Anthologies. he must've not liked pete that much, haha!

I can't help but imagine the front line-up standing in the studio doing this song and thinking "doesn't this stink of Hamburg to you, when we where three cool cats trying to get three cool chicks", feels oddly emblematic of The Beatles wild days when they spent all those nights taking their knocks, paying their rock and roll dues and evolving into the Beatles (no disrespect to Starr-lights and Best-ies, but really, this feels like its quasi autobiographical about John, Paul and George's back story and them being "kids" growing up quickly in the dank recounting a story about something that happened to the trio......)

Hello, does anyone know who says the line “hey man save one chick for me” I suspect it was John since George is doing vocals and from what I read Paul is the one that responds with “yeah”....

    I.... A....

Yes, it's John. George wants the middle chick, Paul wants the little chick, and Pete (considered the "cute one" until they kicked him out) probably got the third chick. Therefore, no chick saved for John.

I see these lyrics on every web page that posts this song. wtf is a "lift" of candy bar? The lyrics were pretty clear when the Coasters sang it, so I don't know how the lads could have screwed that one up. That said, this one kills the Coasters' version.

I love the Beatles humor on this one. Great fifties rock and roll feel.

Why Decca said no is beyond me. But hey it led them on to EMI and George Martin.

    T.... S....

Probably because Pete Best played the same drum fill every time on every song lol

    T.... S....

Decca said: "Guitar groups are on the way out"

    T.... S....

Goebel53 And so Decca made what may consider to be their biggest mistake. But hey saying no the Beatles led them on to the Rolling Stones and they did well.

When're the Decca Audition tapes gonna get released?

    S.... ....

they have been in bootleg form. a legal release seems unlikely.

    S.... ....

WHY?!?! WE WANT THE DECCA MATERIAL AFTER 1995!! IT’S BEEN 2+ DECADES!

    S.... ....

@Shade/Rin There's a Youtube upload of the rest of the session right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTMlZxHk938

    S.... ....

Decca is no longer in existence, but obviously some entity has legal control of the catalog. I don't see any legal reason why it could not be officially released as I am certain The Beatles signed a waiver. I think the best part of this entire episode of the audition was the Epstein finally had a studio-quality tape to take two other labels 2 display the Beatles Talent.

Something big was in the mould...

  38. S.... W....

Me and my two other friends have been calling ourselves the cool cats for years. I'm also obsessed with the Beatles for this is honestly perfect

  39. C.... S....

George Harrison's voice is very raspy here. Even more raspy than it could have been in "Do You Want to Know a Secret?" where it's only a tiny bit raspy. In most or all of the recordings after February 1963, George's voice isn't raspy. Which is one of the key methods of telling his voice apart from John's in several songs. Aside from not having as wide a range as John, and being a natural tenor except unlike John who wasn't a natural tenor and ironically usually sang songs with a tenor or baritenor register, he mostly sang within the high baritone range, not switching to a tenor range until he got more experienced with singing.

    C.... S....

    C. syde65 well u know all their voices really well

    C.... S....

    +Oliver Tayler - That's true.

    C.... S....

    It's a vocal styling choice

    C.... S....

I agree with C. syde, George most certainly has a lighter, higher timbre in his voice compared to John, yet he is usually always singing about a third lower than John rarely reaching past E4 - F#4 in most of his songs. John from the early days had A4s fairly reliably in songs like "Twist n Shout", "You Really Got a Hold on Me", "This Boy", "Happiness is a Warm Gun", "Anna", and "Yes it Is". Paul has a similarly placed voice as George in terms of the lightness of his voice, but he's also sort of a freak of nature master vocalist because he has such massive range and control of his chest voice that he can literally sound like five different people and vocal styles. He is the definition of not boxed in and he's always doing the highest harmonies in the group, singing steadily on notes that would make even John's voice tired hence him taking the bridge of "A Hard Day's Night" :) Peace

    C.... S....

@Courson I find Paul McCartney's timbre to be noticeably lighter and higher than George Harrison's, but there's no doubt that Paul has a much better range, allowing him to hit notes that even some baritones like myself either can't reach or struggle with. I also find their timbres to be partially evident when talking, with Paul easily having the highest speaking voice of the four. And Ringo Starr easily having the lowest speaking voice of the four. I find John Lennon and George's speaking voices to be quite similar in pitch. Though I find John's voice to have more weight on it, probably a result of having a darker timbre, for lack of a better term. Still can be tricky though, especially given that their voices aren't always the same pitch, when watching various interviews of each of them.

  40. S.... ....

2:21 Sounds like someone (maybe John) was singing 'Three Cool Cats' in an Opera voice, haha

    S.... ....

The lead voice is George Harrison, the second voice is Paul McCartney and the chorus is John Lennon.

    S.... ....

    Sounds like Paul.

    S.... ....

IDon'twant2BeA SoldierMama I agree with you that it’s Paul. Yes, John definitely did a lot of weird and goofy things as well, but the voice in this one doesn’t sound nasal enough to be John (and John had a very nasal voice, as is not uncommon in Liverpool).

    S.... ....

There’s two ‘The Cool Cats’ being said at the end. John’s is first, then Paul’s. I’m pretty sure the comment was referring to Paul’s though.

  41. A.... ....

First time I’m hearing this song, I’m really digging the sound!

    A.... ....
