Beatles, The - Nowhere Man Lyrics

He's a real nowhere man
Sitting in his nowhere land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody

Doesn't have a point of view
Knows not where he's going to
Isn't he a bit like you and me?

Nowhere Man, please listen
You don't know what you're missing
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command

He's as blind as he can be
Just sees what he wants to see
Nowhere Man can you see me at all?

Nowhere Man, don't worry
Take your time, don't hurry
Leave it all till somebody else lends you a hand

Doesn't have a point of view
Knows not where he's going to
Isn't he a bit like you and me?

Nowhere Man, please listen
You don't know what you're missing
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command

He's a real Nowhere Man
Sitting in his nowhere land
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody
Making all his nowhere plans for nobody

This song could be about bipolar disorder. Describes many key aspects of what often makes this feel just like a life sentence to a tee.

  15. R.... K....

This Rubber Souls album cover is very, very creepy and has a " The Munsters meet The Espinozas ', kind of feel to it, with a side kick aura of 'The soul collector" blended in. As a kid, I never picked up on it, but as an adult, I could feel the eyes in this picture following my every move, looking down on me from the wall on which I framed it as art. A poltergeist hit my house, thus engulfing the entire dwelling, just a few short months after hanging it on the wall. Humans are crap!

  16. J.... W....

I am here because cowboy bebop

  17. J.... K....

  19. H.... ....

This was McCartney's best Bass performances with the Beatles (I did like his work on Silly Love Songs). This was a great song

  20. w.... l....

It's only a song folks. You don't really live your life by the indeterminate lyrics of songs written by young guys who took drugs, do you? If you do, there's a cult leader looking for folks just like you.

  21. S.... ....

my sister called me a nowhere man im not sure if i should be complimented or insulted

  22. M.... ....

Am I the only one that likes John Lennon’s acoustic rhythm guitar? Just a couple of basic chords and he can make a masterpiece.

The Beatles were quite the improbable phenomenon you know.
The odds were 1 in 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.
Um, well, give or take. 😁

That guitar just makes it fab

  35. h.... ....

Not all great songs gotta be fast-paced, like this beautiful song... "Nowhere Man".

    h.... ....

    This isn't particularly slow

  36. T.... ....

The Beatles defined the 60s. It's only fitting that they broke up as the 70s started.

  42. L.... L....

MAN OF NO SIDE, MAN OF NO SPACE, MAN OF NO UNIVERSE, MAN OF NO TIME, AND ¡ MAN OF NO LIFE !

  43. D.... P....

I relate to this song on a personal level. I was addicted (and still am) to heroin at a young age (was from ages 15-20), and have spent the time since recovering and doing absolutely nothing, now I’m 26, and although I’ve been clean for 6 years, I live with my parents, have zero friends, am severely depressed, and don’t have any sense of direction or purpose in life. I truly feel like a nowhere man, as in I’ll go nowhere in life, and be a nobody forever. But who knows, maybe one day I’ll make it, but don’t hold your breath.

    D.... P....

All good, you will get there. Aw, what the hey do I know? So, do you think you will get there? You have prime years ahead of you and by your post, I think you have the drive and I think that you have those little inklings to do it. Let's Go!!!

    D.... P....

    Way Word let’s go!

  44. L.... W....

Very beatifuly music of the Beatles my friends

  45. J.... D....

I was fifteen when Rubber Soul came out in December '65. I was playing guitar in a band, having received a guitar the Christmas before when the first Beatle album came out. When I heard the guitar solo on Nowhere Man, I couldn't understand why I couldn't get the same tone. Unlike today, we weren't able to see how they recorded and their tricks for getting a sound. Years later, I found out John and George had played Fender Stratocasters in unison to get that fat tonality.

    J.... D....

Wow, you the Man, tell me more!!! I enjoy your writing - tell me more!!! Yeah, a little much, but I'm old too and no time to waste. What's the tricks? Can't wait. Cheers, John-Faced Dryman. 👍✌

  56. E.... F....

You know, when I was younger, I just kind of thought the imagery in this song was weird, and I didn't really get what it was about. Now I truly understand the meaning of this song.

  57. G.... S....

For me, some of Ringo's best drumming is on this cut.

  58. M.... S....

    The bassline is genius.

  59. d.... w....

Best thing about this is Paul's harmony at the end

  72. B.... M....

    Bob Dylan's favourite Beatles song.

  73. J.... L....

I believe many, if not all of us can relate to this song at one point or another during the course of life. I for one certainly do. I've been so caught up in my own head and fears lately, feeling like I have to please everyone or no one so seclusion (maybe even delusion) is what I've resorted to as of late. But the Beatles' music, even after all these years still resonates. I want to explore so much and yet the fear of failure has kept me back. For anyone who may happen to stumble across this comment, don't wait - go and do. Even if you feel like a nobody caught in nowhere, start where you are and you'll find where you want to be. It's time I do the same.
    Peace and love

  74. C.... R....

    I fall into that category..!!

  75. K.... H....

    Twin Strats. Rocky.

  76. J.... W....

    Nowhere Man describes Donald Trump!

  77. J.... V....

sometimes some people's views and ideas are not really accepted by the majority of society. maybe that's what this song could be about too

  78. M.... A....

I ALWAYS play The Beatles as loud as i can without hurting my ears. I have to hear every nuance of each song.

  89. R.... ....

"Nowhere man" is basically John Writing about himself, he's in his twenties, he's probably the biggest rock star on earth and he can barely comprehend what is happening.
    - His marriage is falling apart.
    - He barely knows his own son
    - He goes to all of these amazing countries on tour but cannot leave his own hotel room because he'd be mobbed.
    - He comes up with these GREAT songs but performing them live is basically impossible and with big PA systems being a thing of the future, the screaming girls in the audience would have drowned out the music anyway.
    - Hamburg buddy (and future Plastic Ono band Bass player) Klaus Voorman said that he met up with John on the set of "Strawberry fields forever" and that the latter just burst into tears telling him how unhappy he was with all of it.

"Nowhere man" basically is telling the listener "Here's a man completely lost, so please be sympathetic, after all, don't we all have moments in our lives where we are lost too?" But it also is hopeful: "Nowhere man, don't worry, take your time, don't hurry, leave it all til somebody else lends you a hand." things will get better eventually.

    R.... ....

@Daniel DiCenso It did. He couldn't do without her. He tried secretary May Pang, but he just fell apart without Yoko. I thought she was strange, but apparently she was right down his alley.

    R.... ....

@justin dykes Elvis was an entertainer he didnt have half of Lennons talent.

    R.... ....

@Anthony Mc Cusker as in how? ELvis is a whole lot better singer. Lennon is a better songwriter...how does he being a better song writer while Elvis arguably being the greatest singer ever mean he is more talented?

    R.... ....

True....Being John Lennon in 1965 sounds great ...It must have actually been quite nightmarish...Hateful as it is, Albert Goldman's biography describes that period in John's life ("Fat Elvis" period), quite well...

    R.... ....

Actually Nowhere man is about John Lennon when he was chilling on his massive bed. He wrote the song because he's lonely on this huge bed made for two. Because he's a nowhere man and that's his land.

  90. L.... M....

    Best vocal intro ever

    L.... M....

    Agree🙌

  91. t.... B....

  94. T.... L....

John Lennon was saying this song came about from him racking his brain trying to come up with one more song for Rubber Soul. He fell asleep and this just popped into his head

  95. K.... ....

What if were all nowhere man, living in a nowhere land? None of this really matters, does it? All nowhere man can be somewhere doing something.

  96. R.... A....

    Underrated Song!

  97. F.... ....

0:48 I love that guitar solo
