Beatles, The - Little Child Lyrics

Little child, little child
Little child, won't you dance with me?
I'm so sad and lonely
Baby take a chance with me

Little child, little child
Little child, won't you dance with me?
I'm so sad and lonely
Baby take a chance with me

If you want someone
To make you feel so fine
Then we'll have some fun
When you're mine, all mine
So come, come on, come on

Little child, little child
Little child, won't you dance with me?
I'm so sad and lonely
Baby take a chance with me

When you're by my side
You're the only one
Don't you run and hide
Just come on, come on
So come on, come on, come on

Little child, little child
Little child, won't you dance with me?
I'm so sad and lonely
Baby take a chance with me
Baby take a chance with me
Baby take a chance with me

    - Lead Vocals, Guitar & Harmonica: John Lennon
    - Bass, Piano & Backing Vocal: Paul McCartney
    - Guitar: George Harrison
    - Drums: Ringo Starr

John's voice is so fresh and beautiful here

  16. P.... W....

Bassline in the verses resembles the 'I Saw Standing There' pattern, a line Paul borrowed from Chuck Berry's 'I'm Talking About You'

  17. A.... S....

This song was originally intended for Ringo. It’s hard to imagine him singing this. John did a great job as always.

    A.... S....

I think John realized this might be a bit out of Ringo's vocal range and decided to sing it himself. It's an amazing vocal, even though John probably viewed it as a throwaway. He clearly cared about it at the time, as we can see by his enthusiastic performance.

I've always thought that George Martin's piano playing on Beatles' songs was a little stiff. Here, Paul McCartney is playing the piano with just a little more zest for life as befitting a young, 21-year old skirt-chasing Beatle.

Is George Martin really that good on piano?

    m.... w....

    It's Paul on piano here.

  31. N.... B....

John Lennon was a pedo. Jk but that was the early 60s anyway

  32. m.... ....

I could never, ever forget this song! I was about 5 when I first heard this album. I always had such a crush on George Harrison, and I imagined that "I" was the "Little Child" that they were singing about. I would dance in the rec room of my parents' house while listening to this song over and over - imagining that George was dancing with me. And then, "Til There Was You" was another one that enthralled me. Even as a little 5 year old, I felt like they were singing for me. :) I never really became much of a Beatles fan (although I always did love George Harrison's music) - but to this day, I can hear every single song on this album in my head like it was yesterday.

  36. M.... ....

Simple but enjoyable album filler originally intended for Ringo before John and Paul wrote "I Wanna Be Your Man" for the Stones and they just so happened to think it suited Ringo more.

hey google , i like mono. oh never mind....

  41. J.... D....

My childhood in the 90s. My dad made sure to buy all the CDs when they came out so we'd have all this good stuff to grow up to. Thank you, Dad!

  42. R.... W....

Back in 64 just left it on the turntable playing in the background all day

  43. N.... W....

Dont "remaster" this old music. The people coming up don't remember the original music, and they obviously don't have the ear for it.They are absolutely ruining this old music.

    N.... W....

I agree with you. And there are dozens of examples. One remaster I hate is ZZ Top's "La Grange" . The edge on the guitars' sound is GONE.....they often do it to flatten the signal so the overall track plays louder, but it screws up the highs and lows and sounds terrible to us that know the original recording.

  44. J.... L....

Should have did the whole song in stereo or mono. Not mono, then stereo, then back to mono.

  45. S.... ....

Awesome upbeat Beatles song! I know John is primarily singing, but I'm glad Paul got to sing for a few seconds at 1:37

    S.... ....

It's almost like they were waiting around for Paul to show up, and the others finally decided to go on without him, and John sang the whole song himself. Then Paul dashes in at the last second and John says something cheeky like "here mate, we saved you a spot at the end. Just sing 'oh yeah' a couple times."

  46. 5.... ....

I learned to play harmonica by listening to and mimicking Beatles songs. Then it freaked me out when my daughter did the same thing. She played Love Me Do almost on her first go, and I about died!

  47. A.... ....

They were singing to teens. In a teen's point of view. Something teens can relate to. Not that hard, dummies.

Akchun a guy with an anime profile pic being right wtf

  48. A.... F....

Clocked in at 1:49. My LP from 1964 is all scratched. But it gives it "character" LOL!

    A.... F....

    Its just a feature

  49. C.... M....

Love it.........All new appreciation for a throw in song on the album. Hard hitting Rock, with harmonica fast and hard music, and john Lennon playing it down with vocals. A fun song, people please get of the dark side crap. Recorded in 63.....

Love it more now than then.

  50. T.... ....

A great song with absolutely no Paul.

  51. F.... S....

I just love the raw power in that harmonica break. Just outstanding

  52. L.... I....

    Great tune

  53. J.... D....

Raw power ! John was at the heart

And I thought she’s just 17 was bad...
    Little child dance with me

    R.... H....

Kinda of like ' honey child". It was a popular expression back then.

    R.... H....

she's 17 is fine as age of consent in england is 16 years old

    R.... H....

Right saying little child doesn’t actually mean a child, also the age of convent in England was 16 and still is. There’s also know rule about giving consent to a dance😂😂

    R.... H....

@El Cranstino there are states in America where 16 is legal, too.

  56. p.... ....

AWESOME songs OMG the best ever...The BEATLES the best band ever

baby take a chance with me OHHH YEAAAH baby take a chance with me OHHH YEAAAAAH

  58. R.... ....

    What a great early LP!

  59. T.... C....

The Beatles didn't cut any bad songs.

    T.... C....

@Vels Vivard it's crude, but was voted as worst Beatles song by someone...but it's Beatles which makes it all good imo.

    T.... C....

@Michael wood And why do you care about someone's take on it? If you have lived and had a clue how music progressed, your tongue would fall dead by saying that it's a bad song.

    T.... C....

As a a huge Beatles fan myself, I'd say Wild Honey Pie is a bad song :(

    T.... C....

@Rosa That's my favourite of all their tracks! Seriously.

    T.... C....

@Amquacktador what about that excellent tremolo guitar?

  60. P.... ....

    Oh dear

  61. L.... C....

    Spectacular 🎉

    L.... C....

    It's still spectacular. 😘

  62. C.... O....

The mono version is better. :)

    C.... O....

Of course it is. This "remastering" is a bad trend.

    C.... O....

The mono mixes are better on the first two albums that's for sure. I won't even touch the stereo "Please Please Me."

    C.... O....

Agree entirely. Sounds bigger and more focused.

  63. l.... l....

Another Beatles non-hit that is actually a hit .....

    Smoke Weed ERRYDAY! ✨✨✨✨✨😚💨💨

    B.... B....

Then when your mind is hallucinating mad out of control and you become paranoid there are people out to get you. You may wish you had never opened that rotten door. It didn't do the Beatles much good. Epstein dead. Lennon dead. George Harrison dead. Linda McCartney dead. Multiple drug busts, convictions an Lennon screaming 'Cold Turkey'. Could you maybe please stop pushing your junky druggie message on every Beatles record.

    B.... B....

@Michael Greenwood i... I don't think weed had anything to do with John or George's death.. And some of the best Beatles songs came while they were experimenting with different drugs.

    B.... B....

    @Dakota Steinmeier
It's a matter of opinion weather their drug music was good. I agree there was some amazing compositions. They themselves said that everything they wrote whilst they were stoned turned out to be rubbish later on when they listened to them the next day or after they were in more rational states. They said everything had to be re-written. Of course their deaths can not be traced directly to their use of drugs. Somethings can never be known. But maybe Lennon was so under the influence that he thought the assassin M.Chapman was handing him a packet of dope to sign. Who knows?

    B.... B....

    It could happen @Michael Greenwood

    B.... B....

    @Jim Dep
'It'? 'It' could happen? May I ask what could happen?

  66. J.... R....

This song is weird, I told you!!!

  67. M.... B....

Why sing about a little child ????

    M.... B....

John was at a wedding and spotted a 3 year old by the dance floor needing a dance partner. Why the bloody hell do you think.? I suppose you think John is also actually a Walrus

    M.... B....

@Charlie O'Malley She probably think onions are made of glass too

    M.... B....

It's about a GIRL, not an actual child. Oh boy.....

    M.... B....

    Ever been to Uranus?

    M.... B....

It's a term of the generation, please.
John wrote that song in 3 and a half hours........ not your love song of the era, hard rock, with harmonica hitting it and a hard beat. Love it, more now.

  68. C.... D....

    Stereo fucking ruined this song

  69. B.... L....

So underrated. Considering how dismissive he was of it later, John was clearly up for the recording, delivering an enthusiastic vocal, even harmonizing with himself on the "I'm so sad and lonely" line. And that cracking harmonica solo...surely it must be among his best.

    B.... L....

That was George he harmonized with not himself.

    B.... L....

    @Sarcastic Mike I think that's Paul

    B.... L....

There was a period when John was "dismissive" of pretty much everything and everyone- he was dealing with some personal stuff, and it doesn't mean anything in the long run. :)

    B.... L....

I've been putting together a playlist for Lennon's birthday, and I never realized how much better this stuff is than pretty much anything he did in the 70's. "Mother", "How Do You Sleep", "Well", "Live Peace in Toronto", it's like going to the dentist to listen to it more than a couple times. Compared to this silly piece of fluff, which swings and rocks as easily as breathing...it's too bad the breakup of the Beatles hurt him like that. He never sang songs like this after 1969. Not even on the "Rock & Roll" album.

  70. c.... ....

"I'm so sad and lonely", love it!

  71. b.... ....

    Nothing better than The Beatles!

    b.... ....

love this in every beatles song

  72. L.... A....

    Viva México !!!!

  73. P.... M....

    Little child, little child
Little child, won't you dance with me?
    I'm so sad and lonely

    Little child, little child
Little child, won't you dance with me?
    I'm so sad and lonely
Baby take a chance with me

    If you want someone
To make you feel so fine
    Then we'll have some fun
    When you're mine, all mine
So come, come on, come on
