Such a happy song I've loved it for 55 years. Learned to play all the musical parts including the harmonica. And have the exact same guitars that they used on this track.

This is about the only Beatles song I am not really fond of, perhaps because romantic love has been so discredited.

I heard this for the first time, when it was released, at age six. you didn't have to point it out to me at the time that lennon was the leader of the group or that his voice and his songs encapsulated the beatles "sound"...I just knew it.

I can still conjure up the memory of sitting in the movie theatre at age 11 in 1964 and seeing “A Hard Day’s Night”. Heavy on the SEEING vs. HEARING as the screams of every girl in the audience were
deafening. Each one leaving in tears having convulsed in pubescent hysteria, and me feeling perplexed that Beatlemania translated equally from the live shows into the theatre. All came into clearer Auditory View when purchasing the album, as we all did for each and every one. The Beatles were the Joyful Soundtrack of my youth, and like then, continue to love them more with the swift passing of time

It's amazing how this recording masks delayed bass note changes. For example "This could only happen to ME", on "ME" you'd expect the bass to change the root note, because the guitar changes to Em, however, the bass follows only one measure later. This is especially audible in BBC version of this song, however this studio recording is mastered in such way that it's almost not perceptible.

It was a magical time back then. At 74 looking back I can only smile. Listening to the Beatles is like a time machine.
