Beatles, The - Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite! Lyrics

For the benefit of Mr. Kite,
There will be a show tonight
On trampoline.

The Hendersons will all be there.
Late of Pablo Fanque's Fair.
What a scene!

Over men and horses, hoops and garters,
Lastly through a hogshead of real fire!
In this way
Mr. K.
Will challenge the world!

The celebrated Mr. K.
Performs his feat on Saturday
At Bishopsgate.

The Hendersons will dance and sing
As Mr. Kite flies through the ring.
Don't be late!

Messrs. K. and H. assure the public
Their production will be second to none.
And of course
Henry The Horse
Dances the waltz!

The band begins at ten to six,
When Mr. K. performs his tricks
Without a sound.

And Mr. H. will demonstrate
Ten summersets he'll undertake
On solid ground.

Having been some days in preparation,
A splendid time is guaranteed for all.
And tonight
Mr. Kite
Is topping the bill!

Screw "More Cowbell!". I say, "More High Hat!".

  2. Simon Kormendy

There's a reason why the vocal tracks are panned hard-right in the mix of this song, back in the day stereo records were mixed this way to ensure compatibility with mono sound-reproduction equipment, and also for radio broadcast.

    The Beatles' first official shitpost.

Edit: I'm not saying it's bad, I love this song. But John Lennon said this was his least favorite song.

Another class song on St Pepper. I would strongly recommend that 1:00 to 1:27 and from 1:55 to the end should be listened to stoned. Actually doesn’t leave much of the song left so listen to all of it stoned!

Finally we can listen to the Beatles on Youtube. Jesus Christ, it took you guys long enough to realize the benefits of this. Has the estate for either Jimi Hendrix or Prince realized this yet?

    - Piano, Organ, Harmonium, Electronic Organ & Glockenspiel: George Martin
    - Harmonica: John Lennon, George Harrison, Mal Evans & Neil Aspinall
    - Tape Loops: John Lennon, George Martin & Geoff Emerick

    Mark Rocovich

George Martin took audio tape of the calliope music and cut it into the score at random..he had over 30+ hours of tape to work with and his genius is still evident 40+ years later...

    José Candal

@Mark Rocovich Yeah, George Martin was amazing. He shaped their songs in ways that are seldom appreciated but impossible to forget.
He was the true "fifth Beatle".

  41. cat

Near the end of the song I imagine a freak accident at the circus and this being Mr. Kite's last show.

Isn't it great, That we all can have a piece of them ? I mean we can in any moment hear them and the music that they made 50 years ago, to me just to think about it blows my mind and make me feel fortunate to have youtube

  56. Marslander

Certa vez quando meus filhos eram crianças (2003) eu coloquei essa canção para tocar e fiz um teatrinho como se fosse uma apresentação de circo .Foi muito divertido!

  57. S6N 6F G6D

it has something creepy and evil sounding. i really like it.

  58. Picnicl

John, clearly, had noticed The Doors and wrote a song in his own distinct way, informed, possibly, by influences outside of the circus poster, perhaps a Wurlitzer organ playing in the Tower on a trip to nearby Blackpool - or Southport maybe.

  59. Picnicl

Please see my channel for a Sergeant Pepper's Magical Mystery White Album playlist.

  60. Joshua Stephens

Crazy this was made in 1967, absolutely insane

  61. Noe Berengena

I can imagine that every person who heard this song for the first time would have been awestruck by the last 40 seconds of it. The multi-tracked barrage of strangely layered sounds, some of them played backwards was so mesmerizing to me that I was always in a stupor as the song fades out. Leaving a void in which I could only ask with wonder "What did I just hear?"
Special note: in the "old days" when people listened to music on LP records much thought was given to how each side of the record would begin and end. It was not a haphazard decision. THIS SONG was the last on Side One. Always leaving the listener in a moment of extended silence.

    jdl 96

I agree completely I dont even thing they can make sounds like that today. The same sounds can be heard in Julia dream by pink floyd and twighlight time by moody blues at the end its almost magical it's only the 67-68 era that this sound is ever heard again odd.

    ITSGONN BEOK

@jdl 96 Of course you can make sounds like that today, and theres plenty of people making those sounds if you look hard enough. They were using tape loops and I believe a Moog Synthesizer. And probably an organ or whatever else George martin had up his sleeve

    Chris Collins

Frank Zappa "America Drinks and Goes Home" has a crescendo almost as good in the last 40 or 50 seconds. I still want to meet Mr. Kite!

    mosseisleyYT

@Chris Collins : Sorry, Mr. Kite was apparently real, but he lived in Victorian times and is thus quite dead now. The poster from which this song's lyrics were drawn is dated February 14, 1843. You can read about him, though: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Kite

  74. SMUS16475

HOW?! How in the hell did they make this song sound the way it does?

    Mark Rocovich

SMUS16475 George Martin took audio tape of calliope music and cut it into 6in lengths and spliced it back together at random...that is how he accomplished the wash effect..

  75. Marcello Cavallucci

    0:59,man.
