Beach Boys - We Got Love Lyrics

Are you taken by surprise
When your fellow man decides
That what you're doin' isn't right
Do you listen, know you're right

Well, you can keep on tellin' lies
That keep you deaf from people's cries
Well, there's somethin' you should see
We got love to keep us free

We got love, we got love
We got love and we gonna change our world, that's right
We got love, we got love
We got love and we gonna change our world, that's right

I made my home out in the city
Just to see what I could find
Though my heart was in my country
I was not there to close my eyes
Said, I've been tired of all the same
Must've been a Siren in my head
I've been ridin' all my feelin's
All this runnin' and my temperature won't change

Say, you reap just what you sow
The wise men all have told us so
Trust those feelin's deep within
How you must treat your fellow man

Evolution isn't strange
Nature itself demands a change
The universe is on our side
We can't hold back the comin' tide

We got love, we got love
We got love and we gonna change our world, that's right
We got love, we got love
We got love and we gonna change our world, that's right

I made my home out in the city
Just to see what I could find
Though my heart was in my country
I was not there to close my eyes
Said, I've been tired of all the same
Must've been a Siren in my head
I've been ridin' all my feelin's
All this runnin' and my temperature won't change

Beach Boys We Got Love Comments

I think they did a 2 minute version of this called "We Gotta Groove".

  2. t.... ....

The live version sounds more like a Beach Boys song. This version is a bit anonymous. Lead vocal by Ricky Fataar.

When Holland came out I wasn't very fond of it, kinda dark and moody. But it has grown on me. Great songs. You have to hear the alternate Big Sur, it's out there somewhere. Why We got love was left off the album I'll never understand. WGL is one of their best songs from that era, and could still have been a real concert pleaser...

It was played live though. It’s on the live album from this era.

Ricky and Blondie there for the 50th tour was cool!

  5. r.... ....

Mike would have great for this lead - may have been a hit with Mike, Carl, Al on vocals . . .

THIS SONG REMIND ME OF ALLMAN BROTHER SOMEHOW........

  7. C.... D....

    MIKE LOVE NOT WAR.......

I picked up an original 1973 German copy of Holland for $25, with this tune instead of Sail, On Sailor and the Mt. Vernon and Fairway EP still with it, which makes that bad boy worth like $150 according to Discogs. Yeah, I'm keeping that one.

First time I've heard the studio version. 'Holland' had room for THIS and 'Mount Vernon & Fairway.'

  10. D.... ....

    The piano sounds very Dennis.

  11. M.... W....

This song sucks and so does the one that replaced it

    M.... W....

    Marty Cornad you suck

    M.... W....

    Whaaaat??

    M.... W....

This is pretty good actually, but it doesn't sound like the Beach Boys.

No parecen los beach boys, lejos quedan aquellos temas surferos... buen progreso!

    e.... ....

Eran los beach MEN en este punto!

Always liked this one, a pity it missed it's spot on 'Holland'. Now that should have been made a double album with the material they had floating around.  I love the direction the band were going on this.

outlawrickenbacker Holland as a Double album would have been absolutely amazing, an album that would only be rivaled by Pet Sounds. The A- and B-sides would have basically been the regular album with We Got Love instead of Funky Pretty, and the C- and D-side a complete Mt. Vernon and Fairway. I mean, that must have been a gigantic suit if Brian wanted to somehow tie Funky Pretty into that story. I still hope we get more material on that in the 2023 Holland Sessions.
You know what, a double album that is half Carl-directed and half Brian-directed could possibly make for an experience exceeding even Pet Sounds, only being second to a hypothetical 1967 SMiLE.
