Beach Boys - The Little Old Lady From Pasadena Lyrics

It's the little old lady from Pasadena
The little old lady from Pasadena
(Go Granny, Go Granny, Go Granny, Go)
Has a pretty little flower bed of white Gardenias
(Go Granny, Go Granny, Go Granny, Go)
But parked in a rickety old garage
Is a brand new shiny red Super-Stock Dodge
And everybody's sayin' that there's nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She drives real fast and she drives real hard
She's the terror of Colorado Boulevard
It's the little old lady from Pasadena
If you see her on the street don't try to choose her
(Go Granny, Go Granny, Go Granny, Go)
You might drive a go-er but you'll never lose her
(Go Granny, Go Granny, Go Granny, Go)
She's gonna get a ticket now sooner or later
Cause she can't keep her foot off the accelerator
And everybody's saying that there's nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She Drives real fast and she drives real hard
She's the terror of Colorado Boulevard
It's the little old lady from Pasadena
You'll see her all the time just gettin her kicks now
(Go Granny, Go Granny, Go Granny, Go)
with her four speed stick and a four-two-six now
(Go Granny, Go Granny, Go Granny, Go)
The guys come to race her from all around
But she'll give em a length then she'll shut em down
And everybody's saying that there's nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She Drives real fast and she drives real hard
She's the terror of Colorado Boulevard
It's the little old lady from Pasadena
(Go Granny, Go Granny, Go Granny, Go)

  14. M.... H....

    Thanks a bunch. :D

  15. R.... W....

This is Jan and Dean's version of the song, written by Don Altfeld, Jan Berry and Roger Christian. Recorded here using 'The Wrecking Crew' studio musicians. The Beach Boys recorded a live version and included it on the 'Beach Boys Concert' album in late 1964, there was never a studio or single release version. Brian Wilson did write and produce songs for Jan and Dean and helped with their understanding of 'Surf music', but didn't write 'The little Old Lady From Pasadena'. On The Beach Boys live version, you can clearly here Mike's great voice, Brian's falsetto and in the middle eight, Carl's Fender jangles through' as only Carl can' ...amid the screams of the mainly girl audience.

  16. D.... H....

What a great song! Great production at Gold Star studios featuring Leon Russell, Hal Blaine, Tommy Tedesco, Carol Kaye, etc.) Amazing!

    D.... H....

Doug.....didn't you notice that this is NOT the Beach Boys, but Jan and Dean???

  17. M.... R....

This is the Jan and Dean version. Brian Wilson wrote, or cowrote it. There is a "live" version of this song by the Beach Boys...but, this one ain't it.

    M.... R....

Actually, Brian Wilson did not co write on little old lady ftom pasadena like he did a few of their other songs. Jan Berry, Don Altfeld, and Roger Christian wrote all lyrics and composed all music & melodies for this peticular song.

    M.... R....

I have the live (Beach Boys) version on cassette tape, lyrics are a tiny bit different at certain parts

  18. A.... M....

This is JAN AND DEAN, this is NOT The Beach Boys.

    A.... M....

I agree hey you idiots who posted to that it was the beach boys you are WRONG it is JAN and DEAN

  19. J.... C....

Yes. Doesnt sound like the Beach Boys.

Although I have heard the Beach Boys sing this in concert. You can tell it's Jan & Dean because the lead vocals are definitely not Mike Love singing.

    Z.... ....

and the cheap "stereo version" to boot

  29. A.... S....

This sounds exactly like the Liberty 45 I have with Jan and Dean's name on the label. Perhaps it's a mis-print.

  30. G.... H....

Super stock Dodge bet it was a Hemi!

    G.... H....

It was a 426 super stock wedge. The 426 Hemi was not sold to the public until 1966. This song came out in 1964.

    G.... H....

Gavin, Nope....not the Hemi...it was a "Max Wedge" back then. They came in 413 and 426 versions.

  32. J.... A....

Jan and Dean sung the song first but I think the Beach Boys do it better.  What do you think?  By the way, not putting Jan and Dean down, they were excellent.  To me their best songs were Surf City and Baby Talk.

    J.... A....

    +Jack A ...... right ..... and Dead Man's Curve

    J.... A....

+Jack A Yes. I like both groups but this song definitely sounds better by the Beach Boys. Sounds like a song Brian Wilson would have written.

    J.... A....

+Jack A Yes. I like both groups but this song definitely sounds better by the Beach Boys. Sounds like a song Brian Wilson would have written.

  38. T.... ....

This is the original Jan & Dean version. Look at bertverwoerd's channel for the BB version, it's quite obviously different.

  39. A.... ....

the original was by jan and dean. then the beach boys preformed it and put it in thir album Beach boys Concert.

  40. k.... m....

Anyone who grew up with the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean will know that this is Jan and Dean, not the Beach Boys.

  41. t.... ....

So, who's going to win in the BB vs J&D debate? :p

  42. L.... ....

    @beach37554
Yes, I think you're right. Jan and Dean with BB in the background.

  43. E.... ....

@beach37554 Yes you can definately hear Brian's high pitched falsetto.

  44. b.... ....

Jan and Dean are singing lead on this and you can hear the Beach Boys harmonies in the background. They collaberated on this song.

  45. C.... ....

    @merkx yw!

  46. J.... B....

Defiantly Beach Boy's version.......My Dad is laughing at all the people who think its not, he was at 4 shows when they sang it. sorry guys....

    J.... B....

    You're wrong.

    J.... B....

you're rong I'm a die hard fan of bb and Jan Dean look up Dean Martin show with j and d and you'll here them sing this exact version

    J.... B....

Johnny Blade is clearly wrong. His dad can laugh all he wants, but he's just as wrong.

  47. F.... ....

Jan & Dean...Original...Might have been on the BB and J&D greatest hits CD...And Yes we all know that the BB (or some of them ) backed vocals on many Jan & Dean studio recordings...Ripple Red rules lol

  48. g.... ....

@notlazy99 Brian Wilson had nothing to do with writing or recording The Little Old Lady from Pasadena. As halbie71 said below, it was written by Don Altfeld, Jan Berry, and Roger Christian. Jan sang lead, with Bones Howe on falsetto and the Fantastic Baggies on the background vocals.

  49. g.... ....

@rgarcia77 It's the original Jan & Dean rendition.

  50. C.... ....

@SoulKiller7Eternal Here, compare this version to the one in this link, trust me, it's Jan and Dean. Remember to add the youtube.com to the link first.

    /watch?v=xGdLDOXyWsg

  51. S.... ....

@ClarkeMarek Well mismarked or not, I follow from what I heard. :D

  52. C.... ....

@SoulKiller7Eternal Then the CD was mismarked. It happens.

  53. S.... ....

@ClarkeMarek Actually no it is the Beach Boys version. I heard this song on a Billboards CD several years ago. This is the version that was on the CD and the CD did infact say Beach Boys. :)

  54. S.... ....

@rgarcia77 This is the beach boy's version. It is from a Billboards CD not exactly sure which year though. I do know it is the beach boys version. :)

  55. C.... .....

what fuckin idiot posted this as beach boys?

  56. r.... ....

JAN & DEAN. NOT THE BEACH BOYS.

  57. C.... ....

@AdamMitchyCat Yeah, except it's not the Beach Boys version in the video. It's the Jan and Dean version.

  58. r.... ....

    lawl animaniacs

  59. R.... R....

I've always been scared of the little old lady from pasadena..

  60. A.... F....

Geez guys, it's called a COVER. They're just singing this song, but they didn't write it!

  61. J.... R....

This Is bullshit. Jan and dean wrote and performed this song.

  62. M.... ....

Jan and Dean not Beach Boys

  63. b.... ....

The Beach Boys sang this on a concert album, but I don't know that they ever released a studio version of this song on any album.

  64. B.... G....

@Yoganao The track " The little Old Lady From Pasadena " iIs on the albums Jan and Dean Golden hits Vol 2 .. And the Beach Boys can be found on alubum The Beach Boys/ Jan Dean

  65. m.... ....

I heard, that originally, it went; " Go Gramma, Go Gramma, Go Gramma, Go!"

  66. B.... G....

Jan and Dean were the original singers and the Beach Boys sang it later after a law suit against Jan and Dean for the rights to it.. Die hard Beach Boy Fan

  67. J.... H....

This was played alot in concert (their first live LP, for example) by The Beach Boys, and they even did a TV version with Ruth Buzzie (from Laugh-In) as the little old lady. But this is the Jan and Dean hit version you've got her.

  68. Y.... ....

    This is Jan & Dean.

  69. 1.... ....

Um, "Surfin'" was recorded in 1961 in a cheap studio, before the Beach Boys were signed to Capitol Records. Of course it sounds bad. However, the quality their records got better very quickly, starting with "Surfer Girl" in 1963. The production quality is not any worse than the Jan & Dean of that period. "Baby Talk" sounds bad, but that's because it wasn't recorded in the 1960s.

  70. M.... ....

My family had several little old ladies in it like this song describes...Great Grandma had a '68 Chevelle Malibu, Grandma had a 1969 Camaro RS, my dads mom had a '70 Chevelle SS. Heck, even grandpa had a '71 Monte Carlo. It's no wonder I grew up to be a gear head.

  71. J.... D....

  76. f.... ....

it was a long time ago, i still remember that video from animaniacs

    f.... ....

Wasn't this also on DTV? DTV was a bumper on The Disney Channel that uses clips from classic Disney cartoons to fit the song.
