Beach Boys - Car Crazy Cutie Lyrics

Run a-run a doo run run
Wo run a-run a doo run run
Wo run a-run a doo run run
Wo run a-run a doo run run

Well my steady little doll is a real-live beauty
And everybody knows she's a car crazy cutie
She's hip to everything man from customs to rails
And axel grease imbedded 'neath her fingernails

Wo yeah (Run a-run a doo run run)
Wo oh oh oh (Wo run a-run a doo run run)
Oh oh oh now cutie (Wo run a-run a doo run run)
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh (Wo run a-run a doo run run)

A power shift in second and a-ridin' the clutch
My car crazy cutie, man, she's just too much
I take her to the drags, man, and everyone flips
For her big blue eyes and her candy apple lips

Wo yeah (Run a-run a doo run run)
Wo oh oh oh oh (Wo run a-run a doo run run)
Oh oh oh now cutie (Wo run a-run a doo run run)
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh (Wo run a-run a doo run run)

Yeah oh
Car crazy cutie
Car crazy cutie
Car crazy cutie
Car crazy cutie

Well I guess you might say she's the rodder's dream gal
Always there to help, man, when you need a pal
But when I talk of lovin' man, some kisses and hugs
Says she's like to take 'em better clean and gap the plugs

Wo yeah (Run a-run a doo run run)
Wo oh oh oh (Wo run a-run a doo run run)
Oh oh oh now cutie (Wo run a-run a doo run run)
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh (Wo run a-run a doo run run)

Run a-run a doo run run
Wo run a-run a doo run run
Wo run a-run a doo run run
Wo oh oh oh (Wo run a-run a doo run run)
Wo yeah (Run a-run a doo run run)
Wo oh oh oh (Wo run a-run a doo run run)
Oh oh oh now cutie (Wo run a-run a doo run run)
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh (Wo run a-run a doo run run) [Doo doo doo]
Wo yeah (Run a-run a doo run run)
Wo oh oh oh (Wo run a-run a doo run run)
Oh oh oh now cutie (Wo run a-run a doo run run)
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh (Wo run a-run a doo run run)

One of their best songs. I don’t know why it wasn’t more popular. It’s everything that I associate with America in song and images. I was born with gasoline in my veins. Their sound is timeless and this song is so awesome . #ford #gm #chrysler

  30. G.... ....

People go on about the Dion influence and gloss over the fact that this song is possessed by the "Spector" of another 1963 hit.

Ashley Force Hood - John Force's daughter, and the first of the three girls to make it to the starting line ...

  32. U.... d....

    This song is just adorable.

  33. J.... G....

Per Brian, to end the mystery on the final line:

...she smiles at me, "we better clean and gap the plugs."

  34. B.... P....

I was 6 yrs old...now I'm 57..still a kick ASS song,,forever!...my dad introduced me to the Beach Boys...he's 83 and he still loves them...:).

  35. R.... K....

This is the most fantastic beautiful song of all time. Brian Wilson is the greatest genius in the history of the universe. Cars and clothing at that time were at a pinnacle of beauty never equaled before or since. Donald Trump is the greatest leader ever for Making America Great Again. And I am smarter than everyone else in the world for knowing all these things.

  36. G.... N....

These 'photos' that you put along side the music are priceless...So many generational cultures clashing together, and each has its place in social history, history which is actually just yesterday. Without yesterday how can you function today.

    G.... N....

Hey Gerald, Glad to see you "got" the point ...

  37. e.... e....

Marilyn Monroe, THE cutest car crazy cutie..

  38. M.... ....

In my opinion The Beach Boys are the greatest group and Elvis is the best solo singer and Brian Wilson is the greatest composer

    M.... ....

    MrColtanPresley EXACTLY!!!

    M.... ....

    So True.

    M.... ....

You are probably correct. Listening to some of this other Beach Boys stuff makes me put them right up there with The Beatles. I can see why one may even feel that they could be better.

  39. B.... ....

One of my favorite songs from their early work, I can't believe how their style changed so much.

    B.... ....

Benjamin ... This is an excerpt from my website that might explain a little bit about the number of car songs performed by the Beach Boys:

Recently during a candid interview Brian was questioned about their interest in racing. “No, we never did, never went to the races, I didn’t know much about cars anyway.” Enter Roger Christian, nicknamed “Hot Dog Rog,” a Southern California radio personality and car aficionado. One of the original “Boss Jocks,” he then went on to co-author several other songs for the Beach Boys including: Cherry Cherry Coupe, Car Crazy Cutie, Shut Down, No Go Showboat, Spirit of America, In the Parkin’ Lot, Don’t Worry Baby and Ballad of Ole’ Betsy. Sadly, Roger was only 57 when he passed away in July 1991

By the way, that's Suzanne Somers in the white T-Bird after Raquel. It's a scene from American Graffiti.

  43. A.... R....

I guess that you could say that i almost grew up on this music !

  44. G.... V....

I grew up in these times.
    Thank God.

    G.... V....

Me too, cruising in 1964 at fourteen with my eighteen year old cousin on the sunset strip in a '64' light blue Chevy Impala convertible listening to My Guy and the Beach Boys on KRLA Radio was more than great!

    G.... V....

@Gerald Nedarc I bet it was.

  45. R.... M....

Take it from one of the old guys who was there in the early BB days.....this is a really well done posting. Thanks!

  50. B.... S....

All these Beach Boys songs along with the British Invasion is what I grew up with. Guess I'm dating myself. (65)

    B.... S....

Barry Yes! i only listen to music from 1950 to 1970 because in my opinion it is all bad.

    B.... S....

A lot of truth spoken here between Maggie and Barry ... I have much to say about this stuff (crap) they call music today, but I wouldn't want to be banned from YouTube!

    B.... S....

    BeachBoysRemembered Oh Im sorry 😮

    B.... S....

You never lose your affection for the music you grew up with.

    B.... S....

There were things about that era sucked, but most of us are too overcome with nostalgia to remember anything but the good. There's still decent music being made -- it's just a bit harder to track down, and doesn't provide that sense of community that we were lucky enough to have had with Top 40. Make your own memories, and don't get tipsy off the smell of someone else's cork.

  51. J.... E....

I guess only a real fan of the old Beach Boys music, such as myself, would want to persue such a trivial point, now that it's all water under the bridge and ancient history. But Brian Wilson seemed like a guy I'd like to meet, when I seen him in that aborted interview he did with the German interviewer. Since he didn't write the song either, I'm sure he couldn't speak for the guy who did. But still, I'd be interested in knowing his opinion on why they used a non rhyming lyric and exactly what the word was. Even if it was a total mistake, the song is still so enjoyable to me that it would be a very forgivable mistake.

  52. J.... E....

Pliers? I hope you're right on that . Such an innocent reference would certainly date the song from anything you'd hear these days. It just doesn't rhyme, though.

    J.... E....

+Jim Ervin ... Well I've listened over and over, it definitely sounds like pair, but some are listing it as pal, which of course rhymes with gal ... so for now I'll list both until I speak with Brian himself, lol.  Not sure if he'd know either ...

    J.... E....

I always thought it said pair too, but I figured they meant pair as in a "pair of hands."

    J.... E....

the beach boys gave me a personal anthem..

  53. J.... E....

I thank you so much for those lyrics. There's one line which is a little strange to me. And that's "Always there to help, man, when you need a pair" I can't imagine what he'd need a pair of except tits. And it doesn't rhyme with the last word of the previous line which is "dream". So to be consistent with the A B rhyming pattern, I would suggest that the last words of that line be changed to "man, when you make the scene". Yes, if only I could have known the boys when they (Brian Wilson?) were writing that song. That's okay, I can still write my own songs.

    J.... E....

+Jim Ervin ... Hey Jim, it was co-written by Roger Christian, if you check my website, "Little Deuce Coupe," there's a little bio about him, interesting guy. I think he's referring to a pair of pliers, after all she already has "axle grease imbedded ‘neath her fingernails," and gapping the plugs.

    J.... E....

Jim it does refer to pliers as a Guy who worked as a Mechanic on and off from 1963, we would call'em that back the but the Expression has withered away like, Groovy, and Swell.

    J.... E....

I'd think from context it's 'when you need a pair (of people or extra hands) ( on a job.) '

    J.... E....

Maybe you're right. Sometimes their lyrics seemed a little strange to me. But the songs, especially that one, were just so relevant and melodic to me, I could forgive the odd strange word even if they meant pear, the kind you eat.

  54. L.... ....

Wow, just wow, no Tat's, hat's, flip flops, ripped pants, pajama's or piercing's. Just beautiful women in dresses and heels. Some how dress for both sexes was lost along the way !

    L.... ....

LMHS63 I think all that crap came about in the 1990s with the whole grunge scene. Before that people didn't look so hideous.

    L.... ....

The hippies of the late 60s-early 70s contributed to the grunge as well.

  55. K.... ....

    Really funny ! Like it!

  56. J.... E....

Okay, I've checked out your website and I thank you very much for it. I left a comment for Cherry Cherry Coupe and was going to comment on some of the lyrics you have for Car Crazy Cutie but first I'd have to hear the song sung more clearly. Sometimes I think the Beach Boys (and other groups) purposely mumbled the lyrics to make you want to keep replaying the song to get the words.
My main purpose of wanting these lyrics is for an idea I had (which was accepted) for a theme category for next year's contest for my model car club. It will be to build a model of a car which a song was written about. One guy in the club said that we should have a rule stating that you have to submit a lyric sheet to check that the details of the model are the same as mentioned in the song. To that I said no. It's the inspiration which the song provides to build the model which is the important thing, rather than every little detail.

    J.... E....

+Jim Ervin , Thanks for pointing that out to me Jim, (Cherry Cherry Coupe). An oversight on my part. When I posted all of these lyrics, I would grab what was available, listen over and over, then make corrections, looks like these got by me. I welcome any other corrections to mistakes made, including "Car Crazy Cutie." Interesting take on the mumbled lyrics.

  57. J.... E....

That's a song as beautiful as the babes pictured but very frustrating to me since the lyrics are so slurred and impossible to understand in some places. It's almost as if the Beach Boys didn't care if you can hear the words or not. I want a lyric sheet to that song!

    J.... E....

+Jim Ervin Just put the lyrics in the description Jim, don't laugh at the complexity of the words, lol. If you want the lyrics to other songs by The Beach Boys, go to my website: http://beachboyssongs.com/

  59. O.... S....

Some nice Boss Better Blondes on this Video. This sounds like Pamela Jean by the Survivors.

    O.... S....

Pamela Jean is not a Beach Boys recording, but it might as well have been. The song was written by Brian, produced by Brian, arranged by Brian and the lead vocal is even by Brian. But The Survivors, to whom Pamela Jean is credited, were not The Beach Boys. The Survivors were Brian and three friends, Bob Norberg, Dave Nowlen and Rich Alarian.

The record came about because Alarian had assisted in the writing of several Beach Boys songs. Instead of Alarian receiving authorship credits, a deal was worked out where Brian would produce a record for him. The first song recorded was Wich Stand, on which Dave Nowlen sang lead. However, Capitol rejected it as too similar in style to The Beach Boys. The second attempt was Pamela Jean, performed more in the style of Dion (of “The Wanderer” and “Runaround Sue” fame). Sharp-eared Beach Boys fans will immediately note that Pamela Jean shares its melody with Car Crazy Cutie from the group's Little Deuce Coupe album.

Pamela Jean was released in January 1964, but failed to chart. A planned followup for The Survivors, A Joy Ride Cruise, never materialized.

    O.... S....

+ms8596 some parts of the song even sounds like Dion's "Lovers Who Wander"

  60. R.... G....

I'm surprised there wasn't a pic of Jungle Pam in here, but I'm glad they had the Hurst girl in here.

  61. u.... ....

I grew up in Dallas in early 60s and my older brother played Beach Boys music along with Jan and Dean and surf music. My dad took us to the drag strip on the weekends where my my cousins would race their Chevy Impalas and Harley Davidsons. They weren't stock by no means. The winners got the trophy and yes we too had those big blonde beautiful women. I ponder the thought if some had traveled from California just to see my eyes popping out of my head at those California Girls?

  62. F.... H....

My favorite band of all time, there's non any better vocally or Musically!

    F.... H....

  65. M.... M....

also sounds exactly like Survivors Pamela Jean on Capitol which I am told was produced by Brian Wilson and is the same song as this.I have heard that Rick Henn,Al Jardine and Mike Love were all part of Survivors.

    M.... M....

  67. B.... M....

what? no" jungle pam"  luv this tune.

    B.... M....

My mistake, at the time I made this video, I did not know who Jungle Pam was ... Of course she would have fit right in.  Just have to give her honorable mention at this time.

  68. p.... ....

In Mike Love we trust. Mike Love IS the Beach Boys.

    p.... ....

    Are you really that stupid?

  69. A.... ....

  71. A.... ....

    AWESOME!! wow !!

  72. t.... ....

From the "Little Deuce Coupe" album ,1963. The melody  would be used again for another song, "Pamela Jean" -  a single form Brian Wilson's side band, the Survivors, in 64. Both are in my Beach Boys Rarities playlist. Thanks for uploading!

Cars and girls, the greatest times. Bring back cruising

  73. B.... M....

WOW!  They were my favorite group way back when !!  I did get to see them in concert here in Cleveland Ohio when I was younger !  They will always bring back fabulous memories!

  74. C.... D....

Cars are great my brother taught me that. He told me to quit playing in the car and putting decorations in the car that could distract the driver. I will never forget when he cleaned out the car of all my stuff and said keep out!!! Cars are not toys we need them to get places. Thanks brother to this day me and my sister can drive SAFE.

  75. J.... C....

I listened to this song for the first time.

  76. f.... ....

  77. M.... M....

Im addicted to all of Brians "obscure" work

    M.... M....

    @MusicDude86
    Amen, my man!

    M.... M....

Like I said, the obscure songs, which means any of his work that wasn't as popular as his hits. Like this song, Spirit of America, Pom pom playgirl... stuff like that

    M.... M....

Oh yeah I love all Brians work, i used to be really obsessed, like listen to all the isolated tracks

    M.... M....

    @mr.mistermissedher So am I

    M.... M....

    Mr. Mister Missedher
You might like “I feel so fine” and “oh lord” from the hamburger sessions.

  78. G.... ....

Wow, I thought I'd heard all the Beach Boys songs, this is one I've just heard for the first time! Thanks for finding such a hidden gem!

    G.... ....

Surprised you've never heard of this one GroomLeader.  It's one of the many excellent "car" songs they wrote and sang about when first getting established.  A special thanks to Roger Christian for writing this tune ... along of course with Brian Wilson ...

    G.... ....

@BeachBoysRemembered Yeah, when they started, I was 5 years old, and although I was able to catch up in later years with their best known hits, it's great to discover these gems that were under my radar.

    G.... ....

    same here :)

  79. C.... ....

Get over about the "stealing" of this song. All songs of that time were kinda similar, who cares, this one in particular has a great swing! Cants stop listening to it.

    C.... ....

Whats wrong with these people..They kinda have the same feel but they are completely different songs..

    C.... ....

@Max Steel Agree..People been saying the same about The Grateful Dead for years.

    C.... ....

Chuck B stole route 90 for sweet little sixteen

  80. D.... P....

i don't care if Brian Wilson used Runaround Sue as an inspiration it's a good song and a classic one. case closed. love this song.

    D.... P....

Same. Plus, this sounds better imo

    D.... P....

    O yea!!! My boys!!!😘

  81. J.... ....

I'm not clueless; I recognize that Brian has blatantly copied music, and I recognize how this and "Run Around Sue" sound similar, but to call this one a rip-off is a huge overstatement and you're reaching in this case.

  82. B.... W....

No disrespect...but you are "straight up" wrong. Do you really believe what you wrote? Brian was THE master of his time at "sampling". He was a young extreme fan of music and he copied the songs that he loved. He likes to use the term "inspired" which in short means copy and change a little.

  83. g.... ....

    I love the beginning

  84. J.... ....

Any similarities there fall to pop conventions at the time. Brian even managed to modify the chord progression (in the back-end) from what was standard, and the pervasive vocal harmony rhythm (ahrun-ahrun-ahdoo-run-run-woho...-wohoho-wohoho-woho-) is original save for straddling first two beats. Surfin' U.S.A. was a straight-up rip-off. This one straight-up isn't.

  85. B.... ....

You are a rare one indeed my friend ...

Thanks for the cool video, this is a great song. I just LOVE the opening vocals. My favorite Dennis lead vocal is still " This car of mine" from Shutdown Vol. 2. Even at that early date, it shows that Dennis had a unique voice that only got better as he aged. At least until the early 80's.
