Beach Boys - Busy Doin' Nothin' Lyrics

I had to fix a lot of things this morning
'Cause they were so scrambled
But now it's okay
I tell you I've got enough to do

The afternoon was filled up with phone calls
What a hot sticky day, yeah yeah yeah
The air is cooling down

Take all the time you need
It's a lovely night
If you decide to come
You're gonna do it right

Drive for a couple miles
You'll see a sign and turn left
For a couple blocks
Next is mine, you'll turn left on a little road
It's a bumpy one

You'll see a white fence
Move the gate and drive through on the left side
Come right in
And you'll find me in my house somewhere
Keeping busy while I wait

I get a lot of thoughts in the morning
I write 'em all down
If it wasn't for that
I'd forget 'em in a while

And lately I've been thinking ”bout a good friend
I'd like to see more of, yeah yeah yeah
I think I'll make a call

I wrote a number down
But I lost it
So I searched through my pocket book
I couldn't find it
So I sat and concentrated on the number
And slowly it came to me
So I dialed it

And I let it ring a few times
There was no answer
So I let it ring a little more
Still no answer

So I hung up the telephone
Got some paper and sharpened up a pencil
And wrote a letter to my friend

  2. E.... W....

The perfect song to sit alone by the pool on a sunny summer afternoon.

  3. t.... ....

Privileged to hear this beautiful song...Brain Wilson

  4. B.... L....

Brian's A Day in the Life.

  5. S.... P....

    God Bless You Beach Boys!

  6. F.... ....

This song reminds me of Dan Hicks.

  7. A.... ....

    Such a gorgeous song.

  8. A.... S....

  9. J.... D....

I just love this song and the music. It reminds me of California some how.

  10. W.... F....

    Fantastica canción

  11. J.... K....

Such an excellent song - my go to tune for a change of latitude :)

  12. R.... K....

Only Brian could pull this off.More brilliancy

  13. D.... J....

The casual banal stream of conscious is so weird and silly and brilliant. I've never heard any lyrics like this before. It's just very realistic bored thinking and fun. I wish Megadeth or someone would cover this.

  14. N.... ....

It's amazing how this manages to be smooth, soothing and painfully depressed at the same time

    N.... ....

I didn't want the song to end. A change from Brian's other stuff,a great change.

    N.... ....

Couldn't have said it better myself. (Sigh).

  15. S.... H....

This and Had to Phone Ya just have so much joy and peace in them. Check out Had to Phone Ya, specifically the instrumental.

  16. R.... K....

Fantastic track from a great record

  17. s.... ....

    The comfiest

  18. b.... ....

    I think I'll make a call...this song is excellent!

  19. A.... P....

Arguably the best song on 'Friends'.

  20. S.... G....

    Just brilliant

  21. J.... D....

Havnt heard this wonderful tune in a long time. One of my favorites from Friends. Brian rules in our book,

  22. R.... B....

Truly one of the stupidest songs ever written. A real achievement.

    R.... B....

    Rikers Beard nice beard man

    R.... B....

    @Adrien Koo
    hahaha

    R.... B....

    that's why i love it

    R.... B....

The truly admirable achievement in idiocy here is your comment

    R.... B....

    What a cut.

  23. b.... ....

Three people should stick that thumbs down up their nose!

    b.... ....

i think another body part should be more like it.

  24. b.... ....

This one could chase your blues away! Bossa Nova, baby.

  25. T.... C....

I love this Song. It always gives me the feeling, that you shouldnt waste most of your life Working...

  26. m.... ....

this song seems like a combination between Brian Wilson's music and Ray Davies' lyrics. Just perfect.

    m.... ....

Both their middle names are Douglas! So was Jim Morrison's. What about that then?

    m.... ....

To me it's like one of those French or Italian day in the life films from around the same era - it's not the only Brian song like that

    m.... ....

Also The Kinks' song "No Return" several months earlier

  27. C.... W....

Sounds a little like "Do you know the way to San Jose".

  28. a.... ....

Brian taking a musical stroll on the Beach at Ipanema.

  29. A.... D....

  30. B.... ....

How not to love this? This sounds so much like the origin of The High Llamas whole output!

  31. t.... ....

such a song, unfortunately the high time, shoulda been more like this,  beautiful Brian Wilson

  32. N.... X....

    Why does he say "pocketbook?"

    N.... X....

Not sure if serious...but a pocketbook was where you kept your telephone numbers before the computer era.

    N.... X....

Nashville X pocketbook is an old-school word for a wallet and similar sorts of items. He's probably referring to having kept the friends phone number written on a paper or card in his wallet.

  33. E.... M....

    lmao - this is awesome

  34. P.... B....

Antonio Carlos Jobim would've been proud to have penned this delightful tune. Although it's something of a misnomer as far as being a Beach Boys record – it's actually Brian with his (then) wife Marilyn singing together, backed by the usual Wrecking Crew suspects (including jazzman Tom Scott on flute!). None of the othe BBs were involved, although Al Jardine does a pretty nice job with this in concert. Great, great song by a great, great American songwriter.

    P.... B....

    The Wrecking Crew. ok

    P.... B....

This was typical of a lot Beach Boys record during this decade. The only time the band really recorded together - not just vocals but also on instrumentations, were from 1962-64 and 1967.

    P.... B....

yes has bossa nova vibe. smooth

    P.... B....

I play it at least once a day. I look forward to hearing it again and again. (Smile)

    P.... B....

    Paul Baack the best

  35. G.... ....

    I think I'll make a call.  (dealer)

    G.... ....

    Holy cow, you're right!

  36. G.... ....

And the cops smashed the bubbler....

  37. S.... P....

How i would spend my days

  38. Y.... K....

Why doesn't this work on a phone?

    Y.... K....

Because listening to this rare gem through a phone's tinny buzzer (calling it a speaker is a bad joke) is an insult to taste in music. Well, you might be planning on listening to it using decent headphones, but I had to say it, just in case...

  39. Y.... ....

Brian's only (apparent) entry into the bossa nova genre... and it's a killer!

    Y.... ....

@Tuan Jim he probably wrote it when he was half asleep on the toilet🎵

    Y.... ....

@Tuan Jim You need to speak with your cats - they may have a drug problem.

    Y.... ....

    @Christopher Thomas
    lol

    Y.... ....

Check out Adult/Child if you havent...nothing truly Bossa...but I feel like u can hear the cross over Brian had with Big Band or Bossa and Jazz...that kind of arranging and writting

    Y.... ....

He was such a genius. One of my biggest and most essential musical influences as a professional musician.

  40. t.... ....

the high time Brian Wilson another beautiful song

  41. s.... ....

If you knew the address of the person he's talking to...You'd have the perfect directions to the house!

    s.... ....

It's easy to find that address....

    .....just play the song backwards.

    s.... ....

hahha good one Newtown - the ultimate backwards masking 8-P

  42. p.... ....

very mature lyric writing at its best

  43. F.... ....

    Best tune of all time.

  44. n.... g....

    My favorite song on Friends
