The casual banal stream of conscious is so weird and silly and brilliant. I've never heard any lyrics like this before. It's just very realistic bored thinking and fun. I wish Megadeth or someone would cover this.

It's amazing how this manages to be smooth, soothing and painfully depressed at the same time

Why does he say "pocketbook?"

Not sure if serious...but a pocketbook was where you kept your telephone numbers before the computer era.

Nashville X pocketbook is an old-school word for a wallet and similar sorts of items. He's probably referring to having kept the friends phone number written on a paper or card in his wallet.

Antonio Carlos Jobim would've been proud to have penned this delightful tune. Although it's something of a misnomer as far as being a Beach Boys record – it's actually Brian with his (then) wife Marilyn singing together, backed by the usual Wrecking Crew suspects (including jazzman Tom Scott on flute!). None of the othe BBs were involved, although Al Jardine does a pretty nice job with this in concert. Great, great song by a great, great American songwriter.

This was typical of a lot Beach Boys record during this decade. The only time the band really recorded together - not just vocals but also on instrumentations, were from 1962-64 and 1967.

Because listening to this rare gem through a phone's tinny buzzer (calling it a speaker is a bad joke) is an insult to taste in music. Well, you might be planning on listening to it using decent headphones, but I had to say it, just in case...

Check out Adult/Child if you havent...nothing truly Bossa...but I feel like u can hear the cross over Brian had with Big Band or Bossa and Jazz...that kind of arranging and writting
