Bauhaus - Slice Of Life Lyrics
Her gaze hit the side of mine
So I opened it out
To destroy what you thought was difference
So I lied to you once again
So I die before you once again
'What's the difference'
Come clearly where the flavour is
Seen here in black and white
You've got two seconds baby boy
In burning light white light
'What's the difference'
Clear up what you are
Rip up this place and scream
'I am your slice of life' [x4]
Shivering under lamposts
Shivering under glass
Your standing on charisma again
God knows it cannot last
'What's the difference'
Ice inside your body
Blood inside your soul
Yet still twelve faces stand around
Hugging your skinny bones
'What's the difference'
So clear up what you are
Burn out these eyes, rip up this place and scream
'I am your slice of life' [x4]
And the car opened him up to so much more
And the money is brighter with a wider smile
And the problem expands inside your head
'I am your slice of life'

Bauhaus Slice Of Life Comments
One of the best bauhaus tunes!...
Muito bom
Lovely description. Truest descriptrion of a many incorporated sounds blended with a big dark slice of post punk
Kind of sounds like early Pink Floyd with a snarl.
🎸🎸🎸
This is the most "Love and Rockets" precursor song Bauhaus did. you could see where it was heading.. I love both
Brighter
..................there are benevolent realms. There are benevolent beings. they care not to stay too long on the ground as, everyone who holds benevolence within them know, 'you feel an awful lot cleaner and lighter above the clouds.' Still, like campanologists they'll venture down to rescue a soul, a being, a planet. Tired though, what's the point when clearly..................'they DO know what they do!' The decent beings left, can be found imprisoned on drugs, or alcohol, or incarcerated to mental ill health or purgatory of walls without windows dank and cold like rulers without a heart. If there are 12 faces yet still to hug, then they have been sidelined by alien council of twelves that only seek to ridicule and torture. A renouncing of religion on a Global Scale 'would' help enormously, for benevolence knows, you do not find integrity in books of snide perception hinting only narcissism of Gods written by Man as nothing more than control mechanisms........................Bauhaus, you're still one of the best......................they walk among us, their sorrow knowing no boundaries or borders, that 'we' have constructed out of..........................the direction of malice.
Americans wtf? My generation
One of my favorite Tones on Tail--er, Bauhaus--songs.
1. SLice Of Life
2. Kick In THe Eye
3. She's In Parties
4. Hollow Hills
5. Bela Lugosi
Pretty much a Love and Rockets song
Slice of Life is that not enough or not good enough?
I came here because of the Americans
Is Daniel the one singing this?
I believe so, it certainly doesn't sound like Pete's voice
I thought I was the only one here because of the show The Americans,.... well I guess we all thought of the same thing!! ;-)
This is absolutely 1 of the best songs of Goth of all times
Kann mir jemand ähnliche Tracks empfehlen?
Shoulda killed that evil pastor.
unpopular opinion: better than bela lugosi’s dead
Yes agree
I like both songs
bela lugosi's just an introduction
this is tones on tail?
Once ya heard it and danced fuked a zillion times... Id say yes too.
Where the hell have I heard this before
Pastor Tim's theme song and anyone who schemes behind my back that must be "taken care of's" theme song
I like it
Sure could use some EST ...
one of my favorate bauhaus tracks,,,, not sung by pete,,,,, x
petemurphy just kicks you in the balls,, wake up,,, this is it xxx music
Vas te faire foutre pasteur Tim ! Cul-béni qui juge et qui met ses secrets dans son cahier tel un collabo !
Listening to this again after rewatching that episode of The Americans. This was the perfect song selection. There's this confused, discordant, uneasy, subtly disturbing vibe to this song that, when combined with the red tint and the sharp, abrupt cuts, creates this eerie, mesmerizing revulsion that perfectly fits the revelation on screen. Genius.
Generally considered the first? What idiot wrote that? Joy Division was around for several years more and IS considered the first goth band by anyone with a brain (i.e. who can do the maths).
So this is basically Love and Rockets before Love and Rockets.
Thankfully someone got it right - unlike all the others saying it's Tones on Tail - you know, the ones who are working backwards to eventually find Dark Entries at Northampton Pavillion in 79!
Conservó el vinilo en el que escuchaba esto hace 35 años. Nunca hubiera encontrado ninguna similitud con Pink Floyd... ni de coña!
I thought I was an 80s Alt rock connisour who heard it all, but damn you, The Americans, for proving me wrong.
if you missed out on bauhaus you probably have several other giant gaping holes in your lists. You've heard of joy division yes?
Cool to hear some Bauhaus in The Americans!
i love it.pl
miss you
one of my many favourites
first heard this on last night`s `The Americans`,reminds me of Peter Gabriel`s Genesis, didn`t expect it to be Bauhaus!
I'm dead.
lovin dem ominous, coldass, soulless, chugging 808 riffs
Daniel Ash sings this song <3
so glad it's spreading..........again!
On Dexeter's boat!!!
oh my god , this track always gets me, its that lovley feeling inside, i love bauhaus,, always x
sounds like early Floyd
why would anyone know about bauhaus, i mean they're so obscure (they invented goth music.)
I'm just here to read comments on The Americans episode!
It was a visceral scene, but that episode was a melody of really powerful segments, the biggest being the secret Russian Orthodox wedding scene with the priest using Philip and Elizabeth's actual names...
fucken Paige....
Shazamed this on The Americans... Guitar intro sounds much like Hotel California Intro, who agrees?
The Americans.
Gateway for millenials like myself to great music.
Also, what an episode. Mikhail and Nadezhda <3
And Paige, I've never been more proud of you.
Go listen to Tones on Tail which is the sound here, Bauhaus was heavier and darker (and more reggae rhythms :) - they invented goth music, Tones on Tail isnt goth. On this album Peter Murphy was largely absent while sick and not really speaking to the rest of the band.
Luckily for you Poptone is a reformation of Tones on Tail (minus campling, plus Haskins' daughter) and are touring playing Tones on Tail tracks. Wish they'd tour near here...
Beautiful wedding followed by this. Very intense, powerful, and dark scene
Классный саундтрек из сериала Американцы/The Americans 5 сезон 10 серия 44 мин.,кому интересно!)
The growing link between TV series and these greatest hits is just mind blowing. And thanks to innovation in this Information Age, finding the songs is easier than slicing butter with a hot knife. Gone are the days when you had to eagerly wait for the closing credits to see the name of the song or who sang it. Nowadays using a simple mobile App like Shazam, you can just hold your phone close to the speakers and in split seconds all the online links to the song are displayed.

Like several of the below commenters, I also heard this on last night's episode of The Americans. Powerful stuff.
I am forever blown away with the song selection for this show.
TimeandMonotony Americans always has some dark songs like this. The "war without frontier" which was played during last scene of season 1is my favorite
"Games without Frontiers" by Peter Gabriel. The show really knows how to use music.
Other most memorable songs on The Americans, for me, include "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins in the pilot, "Siamese Twins" by The Cure in season 1, "Winter Kills" by Yazoo, and of course this one.
FrakkinToaster Luvva for me The Chain by Fleetwood Mac made great impact
HF D can you name some more good song from this series, I can not find the ost
A pastor and his diary!!
This song made the last scene of this week's episode of The Americans so much impactful...
Loved that scene like all of them showing Phillip and Elizabeth working together like that, perfectly in trained, efficient sync, no wasted motion, effective. That's not the 1st, or 2nd, or 200th time they've setup that darkroom.
It's similar to the mugging scene in the parking lot. You don't react the way Elizabeth did, as effectively as she did, your first time disarming someone of a knife and stabbing them in the throat.
Damn you, Pastor Tim!
To be fair, what he had to say about the effect Philip and Elizabeth have on Paige was pretty spot-on. And that's why you never read other people's diaries! Don't want to know what they really think about you.
Wow, I thought this was about a music video.
"I've seen sexual abuse, I've seen affairs, but nothing I've seen compares to what P.J. has been through".
Hahaha glad I'm not the only one that found this song
The Americans
cookletsdothis perfect tune for tonight. So perfect.
Exactly.
As heard on The Americans tonight...
Denise Laurin same here..
sizone stop doing shitty drugs oh ignorante one
@Android Device turn your sarcasm detectors on. see you at the Poptone show. -- you went, right?
That's why I`m here.. What a show.
Love and Rockets sound before Love and Rockets.
Tones on Tail before Love and Rockets, campling assisted on some of the tracks, and this is pretty much the same sound as Tones on Tail. Love and Rockets was several years later.
and that pump-hiss sound is featured in other ToT tracks, like Lions.
Love daniel ash, can't wait to hear him do this time at the Poptone show in LA next week!
so jealous they're not touring here ://///
This was from their best album! I wore that cassette tape out! Just as good today!
Gods we hated this when it came out - "too trendy wtf?" In retrospect I guess it's pretty much where everything was right about then.
(Post) Punk Floyd
Kaick Salazar Rodriguez Totally
google punk floyd and you'll see Wire was called that originally and repeatedly in the music press since their Pink Flag album.
slice of a memory from my dark teenage life in a dark club downtown Tlv. 30 years later and still burning me from the inside. even More. ❤
פנגווין...😎
sounds like pink flyod
Yes I feel the same :)
christopher foxall sounds exactly like Floyd, lol. I was convinced it was them when I first heard this song. Kinda like when people hear Hair of the Dog by Nazareth and think it's ACDC.
I've known this song for so many years, it's hard for me to connect it to Pink Floyd. Which Floyd songs did you have in mind? It does sound like Love and Rockets, though. ;-)
this is david and daniel singing
Yes it is. Peter was sick for most of the recording of this last studio album so David & Daniel did the studio vocal tracks on most of the songs to fulfill record contract obligations or so the story goes.
Dale Clark It's Richard Wright XD
Campling assisted on many of the tracks as well.
Yes , you ´re beautiful . Besides , I like everything about Bauhaus .
i really love the dark wave sound from Bauhaus. Peter Murphy is a wonderfull vocalist (y)
It's still Bauhaus though. It;s a Bauhaus album, not a Tones one. Still a bloody marvellous track though.
pete dosent even sing this track x
shut up
@Graham Cooke it's still not murphy singing no matter how you try.
@sizone I never said it was.
This jacket reminds me of Friedrich's The Abbey in the Oakwood.Bauhaus used to give me lots of classic horror movie imagination.
no not pink BAUHUS
no not pink BAUHUS
The lunatic is on the grass...
Heard this on 1st Wave. Sounds very Pink Floyd.
It's actually Bauhaus. They invented the goth music genre.
This pulses with early-Eighties energy, it's amazing.
Slice of life bears the darkness in the muse but the voice empowered transitional words exclaimed refuses
minns när denna kom 1983,jag var helt såld på den s.k gothrocken.
Sounds so much like Tones on Tail before Tones on Tail ha ha!
no, its exactly tones on tail, only not in name. Murphy was absent and Campling stepped in, and notably, Ash on vocals for the most part.
hah, that was what I thought too
great tune
i love this song
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...............
@Srdjan Saljic sguardo inquietante!?!?!?!?
I can't listen to this enough...my favorite Bauhaus song. The guitar is beautiful and haunting.
Except it's Tones on Tail, actually. (look it up. the personal and personnel details will bear my statement out if you check into the deep history of the band. Murphy was absent and ill at this point, and was fighting with the rest of the band constantly -- Campling stepped in to record this and a few other tracks, and it's quite notable and obvious that Ash is the main vocals here.
So go check Tones on Tail and you may find more material that you like more than Bauhaus. Incredibly, 2/3 of Tones + a replacement in Kevin Haskins' daughter are touring as Poptone, playing Tones on Tail (mostly) tracks.
GnosticVictorian you are spot on. This song gives me goosebumps...
@sizone I always referred to this as the first ToT song ... well obvious for fans of ToT
Dexter - Slice of Life
actually nearly all the tracks feature Peter Murphy, if you listen to the backing harmonies.
feature, on vocals? no. he was sick for most of it and the band was not getting along. You can tell his vocals on the tracks he sung on, easily.
Android Lust.
A lot of People depended on this song and album, at the time(s)..
precious piece of art.......the beginning of Love and Rockets...
Exactly the beginning of Tones on Tail cuz Campling also played on this track, and Murphy is entirely absent. The sound of Tones on Tail is pretty much exactly this. Love and Rockets is somewhat different, in fact.
Beautiful song from a brilliant band. Thanks for the video.
creeps 80s and gothic rock hello we're bauhaus
beatiful
thanx for uploading with lyrics one of my all time faves!!!!
