Perfect song for a night in the graveyard!
When I was 15-16, as I guess per the majority of 80’s Dark/Goth addicted, 3 bands were commercially “over the top”. Cure Bauhaus and Joy Division. For me (Southern Italian teenager) Robert Smith was the top, Curtis the legend, but without Murphy (and D. Ash) we would not be here to speak about Dark and Goth.
This music takes the legs out from under the matrix makers without actual physical contact. The enemy's deepest nightmare. BOO!

I could be out of my depth, but my interpretation, given this song is based upon the masterpiece novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, is that he's referring to that SOCIETY going to hell, as it were. I mean the society in the novel. Or someone in that society being trapped in the hell that this society becomes. Or something. Not a literal or supernatural Hell! I Love the Feelies!
