The genre is the kingdom, then the subgenres are like the phylum, class, and order, then the genus is the artist, and the species is the track name. It's just a way of organizing music into a way that lets you explore similar things quickly. Imagine a bookstore with no organization, you'd never find anything. People that argue over genres are over-opinionated and usually misinformed. It's very easy to determine a genre, but some people hate that genre, so they try to mislabel it subconsciously out of spite for that genre.

I started as a pure " METAL-HEAD" and now like ten years later I can't begin to explain what exactly happens in that studio lol. I guess I appreciate culture, so I enjoy discussions on genre with intelligent people ( which you seem to be). I just don't let genre dictate any of my listening or creative decisions.
