Barry McGuire is a folk musician and his vocal style is consistent to the standards set by other musicians within his genre. Saying he can't sing because his voice doesn't conform to the style of pop musicians only serves to demonstrate the stupidity and shallowness of your opinions about music. Maybe you should go listen to some more rain ASMR videos :^)

It was originally done by the We Five in 1965.

OK version of this great song. We Five did it best. CRISPIAN ST. PETERS' version was completely uninspired. Thanks for posting one of my favorite songs. Barry should stick to protest songs like Eve of Destruction.

wel . . . .you are right. this is a down and out song. the original words have the singer going to the corner, getting sick and drunk. the lyrics were softened for the popular veriosn by we five: original: "i got drunk and i got sick and i came home again" written by canadian sylvia fricker, who sang it with ian tyson (ian and sylvia)

Although Bev Bivens is much cuter than Barry, this is my favorite version! More raw and plaintive. And the ending is stronger.
