Baroness - A Horse Called Golgotha Lyrics

Call the boy
He's down the hallow
Cull the tide
Distill the rye

Now it's time for medication
Stallions on the eiderdown

The stained horizon
Ablaze with revolvers
Stampedes and bridles

Exorcise the family demons
Stallions on the eilderdown

The stained horizon
Of the dark rein and rider
The steed named Golgotha

Baroness A Horse Called Golgotha Comments
  1. .... K....

Now it's time — for medication! Me just before I toke.

  2. A.... ....

Love both bands, but I swear I have heard a song by Mastodon that sounds just like to 3:38 .

    A.... ....

Sounds alot like Asleep In The Deep?

  3. J.... S....

    Love the art and music

  4. J.... S....

    Similar to Mastodon

  5. E.... S....

Esta chido, me recuerda a mastodon.

  6. M.... G....

This should have 50 million hits

  7. F.... ....

    2019 crew where you at?

    F.... ....

Fuck off with this busted meme

  8. E.... D....

I watched this video on acid once years ago...was still to sober for it.

  9. S.... k....

lead sounds like horse 3:09 to 3:40

  10. T.... H....

    Nine years ago today!
(Blue Record that is, not this particular music video)

  11. n.... ....

    Is that you chester? 5:11

  12. J.... G....

    get em Baroness

  13. J.... A....

Wow now I know wormwood is coming for us

  14. O.... V....

    awesom!

    O.... V....

Sounds like Mastadon and looks like Mastadon ))

  15. P.... L....

I really don't like this band but I think the songs about being reborn as a Christian or a terminated fetus that comes out anyways

  16. M.... ....

if only there were women of the covers inserted in this video my brain probably boil in butter. : c.
the cover of their albums promise a lot Baizley is talented with my deep thoughts of beauty.

  17. S.... K....

That triangle sound bring some Crack the Skye vibe :)

  18. S.... ....

    Pop song ? No ! Avant-garde metal song ! Uh.... No ! Progressive / sludge metal !

  19. C.... C....

Even until now, this remains one of the best songs released in the history of music.

  20. T.... A....

Reminds me of the sequences from Jigoku (Hell), a really old horror movie from 1960. Yes, it's japanese.

  21. m.... ....

man do I love this band! yet....having really watched this vid for the "1st" time, I bet lotsa jaded wankers see this and either don't get it or they just suck and hate their lives anyway. Imo baroness' best album!

  22. G.... P....

Where the fuck have I been. never heard them till now and I love it.

  23. D.... K....

so many thumbs down? gotta give it a few listens before you get the vibe. Most really good, away from the pack music is like that. Try with an open mind....

  24. Y.... A....

I say this with love, total NES Ghost n' Goblins/ Castlevania vibe on the intro, which is all right by me.

  25. P.... B....

1:41 NOW THE EPIC BEGINS, probably one of the epicest (most epic?) of the Blue, especially just after Ogeechee Hymnal ...

  26. 6.... ....

anyone else notice how those weird figure are the colours of their future albums?

  27. V.... ....

This is so much like Mastodon... if I hadn't known this was baroness, I would have assumed it was Mastodon. Even this video is so much like a Mastodon music video.

    V.... ....

    Considering they are geographically co-located....

    V.... ....

Hmmm....I feel like the composition here is a lot more earthy than Mastodon, even Blood Mountain. The drums echo a lot more, and the reverb rolls off a lot more. Baroness is way more grumbly. Mastodon is more like savage blade warrior cutting through mountains, whereas Baroness is the mountain itself.

  28. N.... R....

This song deserved a much better video. It's really kind of a shame that such an awesome band has never released a truly great music video. The "Making Purple" series kind of made up for that, but still...

    N.... R....

Interesting... I, on the other hand, absolutely adore this video, for the exact same reason: it doesn't look like normal mainstream ones. It really looks like the work of an amateur but very dedicated and creative director. The story it tells is so amazing, and the art direction is just very unique!

    N.... R....

I think I'd appreciate the "amateur" thing more if it was for a less serious-sounding song. Baroness songs are just so big and cinematic in scope, and I don't think the video really managed to capture that effectively. It's not that I think the video was bad (I agree 100% about the art direction), I just don't think it fits the song especially well. Still, I'm just stoked someone's willing to debate me on this- conversations about Baroness are my life force :)

    N.... R....

Hahah, well for some reason your comment stood out for me and I thought it deserved a nice reply. I'm always up for a debate! While we're at it, how do you interpret the story told in the video?

  29. U.... ....

Probably the only Baroness song I can't fucking stand.

I get it if you love this track, but I hate it.

    U.... ....

+UsernameUser Thanks for your valuable input on this matter .......you should write a book you sound like a genius

    U.... ....

@Conrad Barnard They say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.
    I agree.

    U.... ....

Good for you...your opinion is greatly appreciated.

    U.... ....

@juarez122191 Hey man, I'm glad to hear you liked it.

Baroness totally has their own style that I can see underpinning every new direction they take.

Honestly, I like Red and Blue way more than Yellow and Green, but I guess I'm more into sludge than the crazy new direction the latter album took.

Purple was a good album though!

    U.... ....

@juarez122191 I started with Yellow and Green and didn't even want to give Blue a chance because I seriously thought there would be no way it could be better and I'd be wasting my time . . .
I guess that just goes to show you how wrong it's possible to be.

  30. B.... ....

0:46 - 1:07 was awesome, anyone know any other songs like that?

    B.... ....

+Bandit Other Baroness songs have great bridges/choruses too. "Take My Bones Away" and "March to the Sea" immediately come to mind. Mastodon songs have great transitions and riffs too. Check out "Dry Bone Valley" and "Tread Lightly." If you're feeling adventurous, settle in for "Last Baron" by Mastodon. It's long, but epicly awesome, particularly the last few minutes.

    B.... ....

+Bandit I'd also add Trivium. Specifically, 'Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis' riffing before the solos.

  31. R.... M....

fuck, one can only hope they'd go back to doing this kind of shit

    R.... M....

    I agree, unfortunately

    R.... M....

nickelback ripoff? someone knows nothing about music

    R.... M....

John's voice is a tad similar to Chad's. That's the only thing they (kind of) have in common.

    R.... M....

    you mean weezer ripoff

    R.... M....

not going to happen, they've changed members and shit has happened. when the drummer changes it's a rare thing to be able to continue

  32. D.... M....

relapse has some of the best fucking bands

  33. G.... l....

    Hipster metal at it's finest

    G.... l....

+Josh Hurstik I was supposed to be there :(

    G.... l....

    silence hipster

    G.... l....

I've yet to meet a hipster who listens to metal.

They're into shit like Neutral Milk Hotel and edgy post garage rock type.

    G.... l....

+Hamish Gavin Yeah, as were plenty of things that hipsters later embraced

    G.... l....

    Yo momma is a hipster

  34. N.... B....

    Reminds me of Mastodon.

    N.... B....

this song at 3:37 is similar to Asleep In The Deep

    N.... B....

MCPEEPANTS 8877 but not as good

    N.... B....

MCPEEPANTS 8877 Georgia bands got soul

  35. g.... ....

really good song but this video is retarded. i hate relapse records

  36. E.... M....

people who say "this is like an lsd trip"
"this is him trying to show you what drugs are like"
it's kinda surreal and trippy...... but this is nothing like lsd... or most other hallucinogen for that matter

    E.... M....

its good feeling regardless of health but has nothing to do with hallucinations. it's a painkiller

    E.... M....

+Erc Misanthrope You're right, to say this is "like an lsd" trip is just not true. But, I do think that if I were to watch this while tripping I would suddenly have some enlightened understanding of this music video- by enlightened, I mean that feeling acid gives you when you feel like you understand a deeper meaning of how everything fits together and ties into everything else even though you can't explain it in words during or after the trip.

    E.... M....

+eTingz Dude, my last trip I could have sworn I discovered exactly how the Illuminati uses sound waves to control people. Through music, advertisements, and media in general. Because all matter is merely nothing more than condensed sound waves, we are all sound waves. So what we hear and are surrounded by, will affect us. I was a little scared to understand it so well (in my head) that I ended up seeing a reptilian eye everywhere in my peripheral's background. That was a little scary, but I didn't mind it because I was more curious than scared. But yeah, I totally understand what you're saying.

    E.... M....

@PatriotIzzy What were you doing at the time? Did something cause you to start thinking about the Illuminati like a TV show, movie, documentary, music about the Illuminati etc.?  Or did it just come to you at random?

    E.... M....

I was trying to think of how it came about. It could have been due to the dollar bill I was examining earlier while I was in my trip's upswing (I was thinking how stupid it was that a piece of paper controls everyone and everything). That or the mere fact I was just thinking everything through and when the idea of control with sound waves came up, the first thing that came to my mind was the Illuminati and their symbol, which is usually the all-seeing eye. So I don't know, I know your environment affects your trips, but it was still very interesting nonetheless.

  37. 4.... ....

    i fucking love this song

  38. G.... ....

    MAXIMUM PROG!

  39. H.... ....

What i got out of it was to not give college kids drugs and a projector. So awesome  though!

  40. D.... H....

great song, but thats one weird video

  41. C.... ....

Anyone else have an idea of what this song is about? I am thinking it's about a little kid getting ready for bed, falling asleep, and beginning to dream. Baroness writes song lyrics so well.

  42. D.... ....

The only thing i got out of it was Golgotha, which was the place Jesus was crucified.

  43. R.... A....

    ????????

  44. E.... S....

I just started listening to this band and they are AWESOME!!!

  45. R.... S....

    stinkfist?

  46. L.... L....

    Beautiful. Beautiful concept.

  47. M.... ....

So people who leave dumb posts on the internet look like that guy?

  48. M.... M....

    Hahahahahahahaha

  49. H.... W....

The video clip is about a dancing smeagol who's apparently looking for his precious while on acid.

  50. z.... ....

    SALAMANDRAAAAAAAAAA

  51. P.... D....

agreed, but that's too ridiculous to be true, relax ;)

  52. B.... ....

Haha man sure hope so... but it's the internet, take nothing for granted I say :p

  53. P.... D....

heeeeey I remember you! obvious troll is obvious

  54. P.... D....

    he's a troll ffs lol

  55. P.... D....

    lol he's a troll

  56. C.... G....

    and he's super sexy, too

  57. n.... ....

Apologize and go to your room.

  58. B.... ....

...And the prize for most misinformed comment goes to...

  59. e.... ....

How the fuck did this beautiful song get so many dislikes?

  60. B.... ....

they have the same style of rather "artistic metal" which I love and I think should have far more recognition than what it currently has

  61. g.... ....

Mastodon mention them a lot, watch some of their interviews.

  62. H.... K....

    Love love love Baroness!!!

  63. i.... ....

Goddamn bus's are trying to claim every one man, a bunch of people just died in a bus crash too, YOU FUCKERS GOT CLIFF BUT YOU WON'T HAVE BARONESS.

  64. J.... D....

bus wrecks suck! it was a while back, but glad y'all still here!

  65. E.... D....

Dude Baroness seriously needs more music videos!

  66. C.... O....

when ever I heard Baroness a question comes to mind: WHERE THE FUCK IS THE BASS?? their mixer should grow a pair

  67. r.... ....

That was a very unique video.

  68. f.... ....

    Good song for diet Mastodon

  69. s.... d....

You can't possibly be from Mars!

  70. w.... ....

    winamp's awesome

  71. J.... ....

Mastodon, Baroness, and Kylesa: Three of my favorite bands, and they're all from my home state ;-)

  72. A.... M....

    this guys are awesome!!

  73. t.... ....

I like all 3 bands. I wish I could have went to that.

  74. R.... M....

The music is good. But how come no metal band has a music video that ever makes any sense. I miss the old days when they just headbanged on a stage.

  75. B.... ....

I only like when he's crawling under cave, it's taken from some tibetan tradition. and it's about "reborn".

  76. w.... ....

    lol @ the winamp effects

  77. d.... ....

are you from lexington? i go to rchs right now hahaha

  78. J.... P....

    John Baizley is my hero.

  79. S.... A....

Definitely influence of Mastodon bt it also ressembles to Black Sleep Of Kali, a doom metal band.

  80. B.... ....

Yea video sucks, cuz it looks like some skinhead guy mixed with winamp effects lol.

  81. j.... ....

A drop is a sound effect in which the listener experiences a temporary overload of bass echoing out, and it doesn't pertain to any certain genre. It can be used in anything from electronica to goregrind. Do your homework.

  82. M.... ....

lol half of this video is just a bald guy screaming. We need mare music videos like this nowadays.

  83. J.... K....

I think the low tech effects were intentional

  84. y.... ....

    cool story bro

  85. j.... ....

Why does everyone have to have a 'colored' record now these days??? Does that make them 'official' now?? Just curious...

  86. b.... ....

Not a clone.. and at this point is a more interesting and listenable band than mastodon.

  87. t.... ....

    cool mastodon clone!

  88. M.... t....

The band was involved in an RTA was wishing them all well.

  89. r.... ....

Kind of reminded me of NEVERMORE.

  90. t.... ....

totally agree with that :-) \m/

  91. K.... B....

    badass song and awesome video

  92. K.... O....

Good to hear these dudes are recovering.

  93. C.... O....

I getcha. I definitely see the similarity between Mastodon, but not to the extent that I would say they're trying to copy what they've done. I find Baroness are unique too. But to each his own.

  94. C.... O....

Sounds like they are influenced by Mastodon, but why is that a bad thing? All art is influenced by other art in some way. Black Sabbath didn't think up heavy metal one day; they were influenced by bands like Blue Cheer, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, etc.

  95. k.... ....

They're definitely supping at the same well of inspiration. Baroness have more of a regular ole hard rock vibe though.

  96. l.... ....

This is like the white version of the music video where the rapper eats the face off the homeless man
