Barenaked Ladies - Pinch Me Lyrics
It's the perfect time of year
Somewhere far away from here
I feel fine enough, I guess
Considering everything's a mess.
There's a restaurant down the street
I could walk, but I'll just drive
It's colder than it looks outside.
It's like a dream - you try to remember but it's gone..,
[Napster version addition:]
[S] Hi folks this is Steven Page.
[T] This is Tyler Stewart.
[S] We're two members of Barenaked Ladies, and although you *thought*
you were downloading our new single,
comes out September 12th,
and after that point I'm sure you can download lots
of stuff from our record but until then you're just going to get lots of stuff with us bugging you.
[T] We fooled you, huh? We're sneaky like that...you can never trust a Canadian.
Next thing you know, we'll be supplying your natural resources!
...then ya try to scream but it only comes out as a yawn,
When ya try to see the world beyond your front door.
Take your time 'cause the way I rhyme's gonna make you smile,
When ya realise that with a guy my size it might take a while,
Just to try to figure out what all this is for.
It's the perfect time of day
To throw all your cares away
Put the sprinkler on the lawn
And run through with my gym shorts on.
Take a drink right from the hose
And change into some drier clothes
Climb the stairs up to my room
Sleep away the afternoon.
It's like a dream - you try to remember but it's gone,
Then ya try to scream but it only comes out as a yawn,
When ya try to see the world beyond your front door.
[Napster version addition:]
[T] Hello? Hi? H-? Hello? If you just- Would you- Could-
Could you please leave a m- Ah. If you'd just let me leave a -
At the sound of the - Uh. Ah. Thanks.
Take your time 'cause the way I rhyme's gonna make you smile, when ya
Realise that with a guy my size it might take a while, just to
Try to figure out what all this is for.
Pinch me
Pinch me
'Cause I'm still asleep.
Please God
Tell me
That I'm still asleep
On an evening such as this
It's hard to tell if I exist
If I packed a car and leave this town
Who'll notice that I'm not around?
I could hide out under there
I just made you say 'underwear'
I could leave but I'll just stay
All my stuff's here anyway.
It's like a dream - you try to remember but it's gone,
Then ya try to scream but it only comes out as a yawn,
When ya try to see the world beyond your front door.
[Napster version addition:]
[S] If you're listening? We're trying to get our song on Napster,
But we don't know how to do it....errr....we're Barenaked Ladies
And we're trying to....Ty? Can you just press that over there?
Take your time 'cause the way I rhyme's gonna make you smile,
When ya realise that with a guy my size it might take a while,
Just to try to figure out what all this is for.
Try to figure out what all this is for.
Try to see the world beyond your front door.
Try to figure out what all this is for.

Barenaked Ladies Pinch Me Comments
For some reason I considered this my theme song when I was like 9. XD
I fucking hate working in a restuarant.
The Barenaked Ladies have the innate ability to address serious topics in a gut-wrenching manner while still possessing that devil-may-care positive manner. I think it's ingenious. I've yet to see them in concert.
Been suffering from depression a long time this song helps thank you
I don't think it's about depression. At least not exclusively. It more like getting stuck in a rut, wanting out, but no where to go.
"It's like a dream, you try to remember but it's gone
Then you try to scream but it only comes out as a yawn
When you try to see the world beyond your front door"
It's comparing the idea of "getting out" to dreaming. Then the line of the last verse before the final chorus.
"I could leave but I'll just stay
All my stuff's here anyway"
Even if getting out was an option, it's more convenient just to stick around. In the end, I think the song is just about how we get stuck in a rut, acknowledge it, but ultimately never do something about it. Being complacent. I could go more into it, but this is a youtube comment, not a college thesis.
Oh '90s why'd you have to end?
Why does a metahead love this tune?
2020 and it still hits home deep Love the song so much.
" well they were some sad lyrics so I put them in a happy key."--Frusciante, Under the Bridge lol.
Who would know they would sing the theme song to The Big Bang Theory!!!
..I could leave but Ill just stay..all my stuffs here anyway! RJ
I first heard this song when I was about nine or ten years old, I think it was even my first BNL song. Even before I knew what depression was or that I might one day potentially have some form of it, a song about feeling bad even when everything is okay kind of blew my mind. I think even those of us who don't suffer from depression have had times like that. Still one of my favorite songs ever.
That restaurant only allows Steves from Blues Clues to eat there.
katie W thanks for lemme know the song xD
Still better than mumble rap today.
It’s the perfect kind of day
To throw all your cares away
Put the sprinkler on the lawn
And run through with my gym shorts on
Take a drink right from the hose
Then change into some dryer clothes
Climb the stairs up to my room
Sleep away the afternoon
Fun fact: the liner notes says "climb the stairs up to my door" instead of "climb the stairs up to my room"
I cracked up when I saw the customers dressed up like Steve from Blue’s Clues
I remember how excited I used to get when this song used to come on during the morning drives to high school 😁
So did we ever get a reason that Eric McCormack (Will of Will & Grace) was in this video?
I heard it again after a long time and I had to stay in the car until it ended, after my wife and kids had already left. 1st week of 2020
my kid just asked my wife "what's under there?"
she goes, "under where?"
he goes, "you said underwear!"
annnnd then i had to play this song.
What’s the “hey ya” guy doing here?
"Sleep away the afternoon"
I just made you say underwear!
I got kicked out of McDonald's for singing and dancing to this song.
you are a legend....
Still listening to good music in 2019 almost 2020
How could these people be so happy while driving pacers?
better than a Leaf or some sort of electric piece of crap
*UPDATE:* I still say "underwear"

👍😫🍔🍟
2019 still listening???
2020. Still listening and still enjoying
Music of the barenaked ladies remind me of my dad. He isn't dead or sick or anything but i just love my dad a lot and this was a favorite band of many of his.
Love this song! It reminds me of Charmed! Lol Definitely a classic in Woodstock's Jukebox ☮️❤️🤘🖖♒ Rock on Barebacked Ladies!
Did anybody else catch Eric McCormick from Will & Grace at 0:41 and 1:43
this song puts me in a trance
God I miss them...
This song is good. It helps me many times in crippling depression.
I had depression because of many personal reasons and am still getting it under control by learning to appreciate how much harder other people have to go through life and from good positive vibes and inspiriational heroes. They say nothing beats depression(anger) than working it out of your system with laughter and learning to make compromises and learning to be mature and willing to help others less fortunate so they can be successful in defeating their problems so they can be even more inspired and reciprocating on and on and on.
When you take a massive hit of acid before work...
the underwear bit still makes me grin more than it should
This video sucks.
This video makes me hungry...lol
Not the best band, but, damn wholesome!
Never knew why but Jordan loved this song and video when he was a kid.
4 Days ago on October 9th, 2019 I lost my son Jordan. I do not know if he liked this song or even knew it. This morning I woke with this song in my head. Jordan was a good kid and caring young man. My pain, hurt is at the level I’ve never felt before. Rest In Peace my son. Daddy misses you.
My name is Jordan and I lost my brother Jesse a couple years ago
You're a good parent
I hope you are able to heal, Jesse. Jordan was lucky to have you as a dad.
Hey dawg, strap on your nutsack cause remember this, no one is better than you, brush your fuckin teeth and go out there and collect the lunch money that belongs to you. You’re a fuckin savage and don’t let anyone tell you different
Funny ....song is aboot crippling depression but I feel happy when I hear it
Canadians are really nice, way too nice
I've been trying to figure out what all this is for for 15 years now (half my life)... still haven't come up w shit! Maybe one of these days.
Here in October 2019
Always loved this song x
I like how this song is deceptively upbeat while covering the subject of depression. It reflects the irony of feeling down and out of place in society, but having to pretend everything’s ok at the same time.
everyone is Steve
Good song old school
Gotta love it, still!
Man what are we going to do with all these left over blues clues clothes....
Barenakedladies: hold my beer
Great song 👍
Love the background vocals. Reminds me of Mike Mills of REM.
So awhile back when I was maybe 6-7 my family live in a apartment in Fayetteville,ny, Steven page and his girlfriend (I believe it was), lived right below us (it was like an apartment with an upstairs living area and a downstairs living area). Anyway me and my brothers would play with his kids (they might have been his step kids) and we would hangout like everyday. One day I went to there part of the apartment and we seen Steve (at the time I had barely any idea who he was). My dad got some CD's signed by him and he talked about his time with bnl. But Everytime I listen to bnl I think about the days we would play and how cool it is to tell people I lived right next door to a rock star. 😂😂😂
When you confuse childhood happiness with the depression and monotony of reality...
I mean most people go from having the happiest times of there lives straight to a crappy job they dont actually care about then wonder why it feels like the same mundane day over and over again.
It's been a while, but I heard this tune on the radio the other day, so now I'm here listening to it a few dozen times more.
Ah, the brilliance of this cheeky little ditty. Genius!
Thanks again BNL.
try to scream but it ONLYCOMESOUTASAYAWN
My 11 year old me always thought it said "comes out as a yum" xP wasnt a clever kid. Nor am i a clever man today.
I gave this a thumbs down, because I connect so strongly with it, and so a thumbs down just seems so much more fitting
I just love this ❤️
“It’s the perfect time of day…to throw all your cares away. Put the sprinkler on the lawn.” Ok, you fucking cornball.
Charmed 3x01 brought me here
Every time I hear this song, I get that 2pm at work feeling.................
Man jimmy kimmel freaking rocks
A whole lot of Steve Burnses seem to love burger joints.
I loved this song as a kid. It was only as an adult that I realized how much I can relate to it...
Why are these hungry people dressed like steve from blue's clues
Just wanted to see if many people appreciate this exercise in musical pointlessness?
Love this song and video!
this song touched me so much when i was 15 trying to figure life out, still sings to me today. thank u
Mtv use to play this everyday at 930 for a while back in the day ...id skip school n see it
Haha, JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-TOOOOOOOB, doesn't want to show bare NAKED ladies in the search, yet Jews literally suck newly-circumcised baby penises. Shocking, really.
Accurate description of In-And-Out, well in the music video, not the lyrics.
I'm at the point I cant even look out the front door I used to to think I could move past depression but now after my brother I feel you all nd I'm sorry for having those thoughts about u
Great song and awesome video by BNL....this is one of my many favorites.....along with This is Where it Ends, A, Intermittently, BE MY YOKO ONO, One Week, It's All Been done, Raisins, Hello City, Enid , Brian Wilson. Box Set and Grade 9 and Life, In a Nutshell and JANE and IF I HAD A MILLION DOLLARS
The chunj highlights innone of the background dancers really made this for me
Authentic
The Barenaked Ladies and the Steve from Blues Clues Dancers
I can never feel sad when listening to this song anymore because somebody stated that the customers are steve from blues clues and i was crying 😂😂
True talents.
Why the hell is this in my recommended.
They are trying to introduce you lost idols of the 90s..i approve
@Jordan Dupre Did you ask for "Good Songs"?
too bad the song is cut short in the video....the album version is great with the extended guitars at the end of the song
Yes! You remember
I use to love this song when I was little.
Is that Eric Mccormack?
Some people just aren't cool and these people are perfect example
where hungry people like to eat~
This is the most confusing episode of Blue's Clues I've ever seen...
Ha ha . . . have always loved this anthem for the manic depressive.
How many times did we clone Steve from Blue's Clues?
I know almost all there songs
Even there was already mobile phones and internet was growing in that era, people go out and have fun, nothing to worry about social media. This was the last era of living much...
Such a unique amazing band
Slightly Stoopid vibe
Blues Clues
Smile!! I made you say "underwear" Pinch me !
