Can't believe this one has Harland Williams in it. Brilliant performance from a brilliant comedian that we lost too soon. I hope he's listening to BNL in the non denominational good ending afterlife of his choice.

I'll be honest, I thought this song was by Great Big Sea for the longest time.

This song was played on the radio constantly right before 9/11. Then after 9/11, it disappeared completely. I think the innocent name of the song got it taken off the radio.

Agreed. The only time I ever was able to see them in person was after Steve left, and they still did an amazing job. They crack a few less jokes, I guess. One of my favorite recorded concerts of theirs I've ever watched was when they did the Great Guiness Toast in I think 2001.

I might be dumb, but I just realized the song seems to be mocking the guy watching who seems to be an important executive of some kind. I guess the song could be about how rediculous it is to strive so hard for perfection that you forget the simpler things (Anyone perfect must by lying. Anyone plain can be lovely.) And also people who live the high life because they were born into it or made it there at others expense (Anything easy has its costs). This song just got so much better for me!

Edit: Prior to this, I thought it was supposed to be jsut a bunch of clever wording and oxymorons to make the song quirky. Since a lot of the barenaked ladies songs I've heard are usualyl pretty strange when it comes to lyrics I jsut accepted this >_>

I don't doubt that. And I don't doubt that's how it turned out. But speaking from a writer's point of view, I see a song who's meaning didn't become clear until it was finished. I think that happens in a lot of songs like this. You start off thinking you're being quirky and all of a sudden you find that you've written something that means more than you intended. Even in writing with intended meaning, sometimes you find meanings you never even considered. Aren't words great?? lol
