Bareilles, Sara - Parking Lot Lyrics

It's a feeling my hands and feet held to the floor
Like I'm kneeling crawl straight to
What fate sent through
Holding down the only solid ground
I could find cause I don't want to try the other kind
I don't have it yet a good sense of knowing when
What I do should be immediate
But all this waiting for a sign
From the other side
For fuck's sake this is just a timeline
Just a timeline just a timeline
Yeah Sara stop it pick out your paralysis and unlock it
And flex the fear till it builds you a rocket
And rise and if you fall
At least you end up between where you will be
And where you will have been
Yeah

I can't keep paying for the same spot in the parking lot
Can't stay here no not anymore
Can't stay here no not anymore
Oh I just keep paying for the same spot in the parking lot
Can't stay here no not anymore
Can't stay here no not anymore

Wooo oh oh
Wooo oh oh

Wish I was lying
My worry circles my brain like it's dying
And that redhead vulture is well fed
But what that mutiny used to be is no use to me now
Tell me how it all turns out cause I'm not sticking around

I can't keep paying for the same spot in the parking lot
Can't stay here no not anymore
Can't stay here no not anymore
Oh I just keep paying for the same spot in the parking lot
Can't stay here no not anymore
Can't stay here no not anymore

Wooo oh oh
Wooo oh oh

Can't breathe in the parking lot
Give me divine dissatisfaction
Give me the heart unsettled soul
Give me emotion into action
Cause I can't take this anymore

Can't breathe in the parking lot
Wooo oh oh
Wooo oh oh
Not anymore
Can't breathe in the parking lot
Wooo oh oh
Wooo oh oh

  4. Amanda Ong

when she swears it's like heaven opens

    Bill Ding the constructor

Swearing isn’t good. I wish she didn’t use the F word.

  5. Synxe

there's a reference or two to the quote by martha graham that sara based the album title on, like "give me divine dissatisfaction". it's cool.

  6. Sean Johnson

Damn the last Sara b song ode the deTh of myego

  7. Eddiethemarv

  8. Georgia Samios

Love love love. All of her songs are amazing ! So glad she's not mainstream :)

  9. TheicMoggy

the last song that I really listened to for this album. didnt realize how good it was the first time I heard it!

    Jarret Lingle

Which Blessed Unrest do you have because the copy I have doesn't have it and I can't find it on itunes.

    TheicMoggy

    @Jarret Lingle
This song is sold in Target stores. Special edition of The Blessed Unrest iirc. Sadly, I don't live in the US.

  10. Matthew Field

I first heard this when Sara performed in London on the 2nd June 2014 and I loved it. I was confused at first when she said she I didn't play it that often, but when I heard it I knew I would love it.

  11. S Piper

You cant get this version in Target anymore.  If you buy on Amazon you don't even get the song I want to be Like Me. Its only ITunes.  And yet I tunes doesn't have the 2 target songs.  You can find a copy on Ebay if you want to pay $18 for another copy of the same songs just to get 2.  Its stupid bullshit.  I tunes should have all of them or Amazon should carry it.  These songs are not going to be on any greatest hits compilation anytime soon,

  12. Kyla Buenafe

    this song is TOO GOOD

  13. arxsyn

Was this song written for the blessed unrest? it's really personal and has a great narrative going for it. I believe she broke up with a boyfriend and moved to new york? I get the impression she got betrayed by a redhead acquaintance or friend and she is contemplating on how/ when to act...

    Dani

We don't know if the song was meant specifically for The Blessed Unrest (well at least I don't know). But you're right, the song does seem really personal, so perhaps she never wrote it with the intention of putting it on the album but ended up doing so in the end. The song that she's specifically said was about her breakup is "Manhattan." She wrote that one from the perspective of her ex.

    TheMurrmursonbottle

i know it's been a loooong time but hey who's it hurting - this was ON The Blessed Unrest, but only on specific editions (the one sold in Target i think). I just got sheet music for the whole album and this song is in there at the end

    Camera's Apprentice

This is how I explained it to my friend: You know how when you're in a parking? Well, your car always sits in the same spot for a long time. She's saying that she is like her car and her relationship is the parking lot.

  14. arxsyn

Another great song! The key it is in reminds me of lady gaga.seriously I bet if this were offered to gaga she would literally go gaga over it. Nice strong vocals

  15. Code 68

Love this song on the first listen. Shame it's not on the original edition of The Blessed Unrest.

  16. Katie Napoleon

How can I get this song and the other Target exclusive song Beautiful Girl?? Not on I tunes??  What a jip!

  17. dianasaur3G

Still confused as to why this was only on the Target edition.

  18. Mary W

Oh my god, Beautiful Girl is like my ultimate feel-good song!
