Barclay James Harvest - When The World Was Woken Lyrics

When the world was woken
Save all unknowing eyes
And thoughts that once were spoken
Left only to despise
And when the dawn is breaking
Look upward to the sky
If life is so hard to live
Why not die?

When the world has woken
And shadows leave the air
Then each spell will be broken
For everyone who cares
The day will then be endless
The night will soon pass by
If life is so hard to live
Why not die?

When the world has woken
For all who see the sun
And gentle words are spoken
The dawning has begun
Then man can live together
With one triumphant cry
If life is so hard to live
Why not die?

I lost this album in 1972, and for many years looked for another copy but was told it was out of print. I'm so happy to find it online!

Actually, Les Holroyd wrote the song. Any Mahler influences would be from Robert Godfrey, who wrote the arrangement for it.

Wooly not only sang his own songs, but also(on the early EMI/Harvest albums) many of the John Lees & Les Holroyd songs as well.

On my EMi expanded CD release of the debut album, the song is credited to Holroyd/Pritchard/Wolstenholme.

Wahhh, so perfect Winter Gothica Mist & Myth!
Incredible, how good this band used to be once long ago. Ice-chilling stuff!
