Barclay James Harvest - Sea Of Tranquility Lyrics

We steered our ship to the Sea of all Tranquility
The only sound our voices, as star-struck we fly
Our hopes ever high
That the songs we sing and the words we bring
Should never die

We set our sights on the Sea of all Tranquility
Our pointless flight betraying now fallen we are
(Gods of old now broken and defaced)
Compared to a star
And the final reach to that barren beach
Is much too far

Yesterday our songs of glory shone
A dream of ages every one
We sold our souls for senseless gain
And brought our harvest home in vain
(Above the seven seas is one)

Yesterday our songs of glory shone
A dream of ages every one
We sold our souls for senseless gain
And brought our harvest home in vain

My favourite song of Woolly's is Moonwater which is on the 1972 Baby James Harvest album. It grew on me each time I played it, until I eventually realised that it was a classical masterpiece. Only a true Master can produce a masterpiece.

I love the lyrics version of this song, from the London Beat. Can someone send me a mp3 copy, please.

Early Barclay JH is not the poor mans moodies. But an awesome band horribly over looked by the faithful. But we lovers of killer music must push forward. Wooly I missed your input since you left the band years ago.. your years were my favorite lps. God bless BJH!!!!

imagine armstrong and aldrin quarter of a million miles from all humanity, would the Apollo even get them home, how haunting that must have been, john lees captured that perfectly, as we watched on imagining a bright future in space one small step for man a chasm and void for mankind

I'm sure glad I taped "Gone to Earth" before it was stolen back in the late '70s.  Now I have portions of it on "All is Safely Gathered In".

  14. S.... ....

Who is the actual singer of this song? Woolly or Les? This song is genious!

    S.... ....

    Woolly.

    S.... ....

isnt it just genious so haunting it show what john can write

    S.... ....

@Xteve Tyler It was written by Woolly who also sings it.. songs written by Woolly were also sung by him..

  15. l.... ....

    Great reply Christopher!

To me, he always had the best voice in the band...In the very beginning, it was for 75% Woolly who had the lead vocals. Suddenly since 1972 and certainly from 1974 on, everything was changing! Every member was begun to write their own songs and sung them. Even on *Everyone is everybody else* (1974).. there was not a Woolly composition at all! Very strange times back then!...In 1999 he made his rentree in the band (without Les/Mel) and managed to fix a few very symphonic solo-CD's in the 2000's.

One of The Best BJH songs ever...Met the Lids backstage Liverpool Empire 1978...XII tour...Aaah Happy Days x

  18. C.... C....

I dedicated this song to Neil Armstrong who died last year. He was my virtual friend as he was part of dissertation 'Man Against Space'. He was the first man on the moon.

20 JULY 1969 A. D. NEIL ARMSTRONG AND BUZZ ALDRIN LAND IN THE SEA OF TRANQUILLITY.

  20. l.... ....

The last truly great song written by Wolly for BJH. Never was enamoured much with the 2 pieces he did for the next album ( his last with the group). Specifically, 'Search for England' and 'Harbour' just didnt have the depth this piece has. His other 2 fines works are 'Ra' from Octoberon and 'Beyond the Grave' from Time Honoured Ghosts.

  21. M.... ....

Unbelievable!!!!! I tried for days to get the EXACT EFFECT you achieved with the lantern on a song I vid I completed earlier ("Down Among The Dead Men")! A truly strange moment to see an image exactly as I had it in my head for days......come to life in your video. Great work.

  22. G.... ....

bring back prog rock, great album this remember listening to it with a mate in 1977

  23. m.... ....

Actually this song written by Wolly Wolstenholme is on Gone to Earth from 1977, who regulary wrote compositions on BJH albums, but this one sounds close to "In search of England" from the twelve album, there is also another song from him called "Harbour". Beautiful works all of them, anyway...

  24. F.... A....

    Sad Sad news....

  25. l.... ....

This was a very musical genious and he would not like to look at the cameras with the eventually of the music ....mello/synths/key's....: I know since the beginning. OK i also like since Eyes of the Universe 1979, when Woolly's left and all further on till 1998.....I am so sad also so liking the early days .....Early Morning etc....

  26. n.... ....

I hate this news, so very sad. Woolly was responsible for my favorite BJH songs, especially this one. RIP WW, now you may.

  27. D.... T....

with Mel, Woolly now playing with angels. Both gone too soon. R.I.P.

  28. t.... ....

    R.I.P. my dearest Woolly.

  29. P.... ....

Bach is on this tune. Amazing......

  30. S.... H....

    great song

  31. L.... E....

A classic from Sir Wolster of Wolstenholme, and the standout track from GTE, IMHO. A comment on the pop direction of the band at the time ('we brought our Harvest home in vain'). Hence Woolly didn't stay much longer. Although he eventually found his 'port of refuge'. (See 'In Search of England'.)

  32. l.... ....

Red Baron, thank you so much for such a nice video on Woolly's Song! Great work!
