Barbra Streisand - The Music Of The Night Lyrics

[Michael:]
Night-time sharpens,
Heightens each sensation . . .
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination.
Silently the senses abandon their defenses
Helpless to resist the notes I write
For I composed the music of the night!

[Barbra:]
Slowly, gently
Night unfurls its splendor.
Grasp it, sense it tremulous and tender.

[Both:]
Hearing is believing, music is deceiving,
Hard as lightning, soft as candle light,

[Michael:]
There you trust the music of the night...

[Barbra:]
Close your eyes,
For your eyes will only tell the truth,

[Both:]
And the truth isn't what you want to see.
In the dark it is easy to pretend
That the truth is what it ought to be...

[Michael:]
Softly,

[Barbra:]
Deafening,

[Both:]
Music shall caress you.

[Barbra:]
Hear it,

[Michael:]
Feel it,

[Both:]
Secretly posses you...
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind,
In this darkness which you know you cannot fight,
The darkness of the music of the night...

Close your eyes start a journey through a strange new world
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before!
Close your eyes and let music set you free!

Only then can you belong to me...

Floating (floating), falling (falling)
Sweet intoxication!
Touch me (touch me), trust me (trust me)
Savour each sensation!

Let the dream begin,
Let your darker side give in
To the power of the music that I write,
The power of the music of the night!

[Barbra:]
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah...
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah...
Ah-ah-ah...
Aaaaaaaaaah...oooh...

[Michael:]
You alone can make my song take flight,
Help me make the music of the night...

[Barbra:]
Help me make the music of the night...

Love this, Michael Crawford has such a beautiful voice. Saw him in Concert in Sydney same Year Barbra came to Australia, saw two amazing performers in Concert that year.

    Barbra.... 😍😍😍😍😍😍

  3. M.... ....

Hang on, why isn't the main performer i.e. Michael Crawford listed???

    M.... ....

Probably because it was a track on her album "Back to Broadway". She asked him to do a duet with her on this track. I actually bought this CD back in the 90's it came out and it said (Duet featuring Michael Crawford)

  4. m.... ....

Many years ago my daughter bought me a tape of compilations of Barbra Streisand and this song was on it beautiful isn’t it?

  5. S.... H....

She should have auditioned for Christine

I was driving home years ago when this thrilling sound began to play on my Public Radio and I had to pull off the highway because I could not safely drive and listen too. So powerful...so beautiful.
As a professional musician, I was so rarely impressed by contemporary pop music; and it is a pleasure to know that such music and such gifted performers are still with us.

And all this time I was under the impression that Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the lyrics to this.
    Thanks for the info, man.
I really respect these writers and musicians.

  8. o.... ....

I've never understood why Streisand recorded this. The song had already been done to death by the time she got to it. It's one of her most bombastic, unsubtle performances. And what the hell is the song actually about when divorced from the show?

    o.... ....

ozvoyager well, she couldn’t have picked a better person to perform it with. Michael Crawford, the original Phantom.

  9. l.... g....

What a beautiful song. Only Barbra and Michael could sing this song with so much emotion. Thank the both of you for great voices.

  10. P.... S....

10/10 Better than most solo versions, AMAZING

  11. J.... G....

    They sound lovely together!

  12. M.... K....

If only Michael was doing this as a duet with the original Christine, Sarah Brightman.

    M.... K....

That wouldn't be nearly so special.

    M.... K....

Chris N maybe. Maybe not. Still, it’s great that he performed it as a duet with Barbara Streisand, in the first time they had sung together since “Hello, Dolly!” in 1969.

    M.... K....

Good Lord! That was 50 years ago this year.

  13. J.... T....

I've never heard this version, either....music to my ears!

    J.... T....

It was the version before the one they have now

  14. T.... C....

Great duet each time I heard it gave me a new perspective on what i dont remember......

  15. C.... C....

Does anyone know where someone might find the sheet music for this?

  16. V.... H....

Love Love! My Favorite version of this song!

  17. m.... c....

    Magical duet
