Re those wide-open garden scenes, I thought they were supposed to have been shot @ the Fordham campus in the Bronx, but the behind-the-scenes documentary about this film says they were shot in California. Does anyone know with certainty where those were shot? (IMDB does not say so.)

Myles Garcia I thought the scene was filmed at the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. It’s actually walking distance from Fordham University.

Michael spilmanI didn't like the film as such but I love this opening number a great example of director vincente Minnelli cinematographer harry straddling snr and barbbera Streisand all at the top  of their game. wonderfull

She never seemed at ease in "Hello Dolly." In this, the next film, she seems totally at home. Vincent Minnelli understood her totally and sense how best to present her talents and, even better, how to help her give a memorable performance in the mode of support and appreciation.

I think she was glorious in "Hello Dolly". Perhaps a little to young to play the part. No, not at all. Not when you're dealing with such a powerhouse actress as Barbra! "So Long Dearie" I believe is the most effective number from "Dolly". I love this musical, score penned Burton Lane
