Am I the only one who thinks that modern day vocalists and instrumentalists are better than the ones from Barbras time? Yea she is good but people are better than her today. I think Lea Michele sings this song better than Barbra, it really bothers me that people let nostalgia sway their judgement... listen to the performances and such, you’ll find that the original is not always the best.

Streisand literally sounds like a woodwind/brass instrument in this. U guys need to understand - Jule Styne wrote these several tunes that are incredibly rangey AFTER he knew he had Streisand cast in the stage musical. He wrote them for HER. I've listened to several incredible performers do this, including Lillias White and Laurie Beechman, and nobody, no nobody IS GONNA SING THIS SONG AS WELL!
It just isn't the same. That can be said for any other thing written for Streisand as well. The mix of Dynamics and musicality and huge belting range is just too much for other singers. They can't do it all in one. They have to focus on the belting or the range or the Dynamics. Even someone as similar as Linda Eder comes close but no cigar!

Frankly I’ve always preferred the 1960s Barbara, as post-1970 (starting with The Owl and the Pussycat), this type of movie musical was already passe, and she resorted to non-differentiated roles.

I literally hate how much people praise Lea’s version. This version is way more authentic and raw. Lea’s version from glee that everyone loves so much is auto tuned! You can hear it, especially on the higher, longer notes. So it’s honestly not that impressive. A lot of people shit on Idina’s performance of this song, and said Lea’s was better. Lea’s live version wasn’t that great either! You can clearly hear the difference between her live and the autotuned glee recording. Point is, this version is a classic, and nothing can compare

lea michele is phenomenal. however, barbara is a goddess. she’s an original, ive never heard a voice like hers. Lea has a different style than barbara, even tho they sound similar they are different. lea has a more modern style while barbara is more old school and original. both amazing, just one created their own style and one came of with their own version of that style. but i cant choose between them and say either is better because both of them are absolutely outstanding. and i love them both.
