That's the most beautiful version of that song I've ever heard. When I was a kid, Janis Joplin, M. Callas and Elis Regina were my favorite female singers. I still have all of them in my heart, but Barbra is my favorite for some good years.

Don't mean to be critical but I think a piano accompaniment would have better matched striesand's voice. The strings are too harsh, but maybe that was the point, harsh winter coming on.

Having lived my life in a country of four seasons, it is hard to believe that your three seasons are actually known as Cool, Hot, and Rainy, with Cool being the best season there is. In Winnipeg, during winter ( our "Cool" season), we hit minus 40 degrees. Nobody visits then.

Yes. I would agree that Montand's is the best. I think that Piaf is unique in her own way. I do like many of her songs. But to me Barbra and Piaf are two very different styles that cannot be compared.

Must be another Streisand, because the Streisand I've heard has sung more than ballads: Jazz, Disco, Opera, Broadway Musicals, even Pop, like Cry me a River, Lascia ch'io pianga, Enough is Enough, Don't Rain on my Parade, Emotion, and the list and spectrum go on. Need I say more?

I saw both Streisand and Houston live. Houston never came close as a concert performer. Streisand's hold on an audience is something to behold. Even as late as last November at 70 Streisand was unbelievable live. But to each his own:)

ive done this tune ,, in a medium uptempo and it lays well ... once heard the master stan getz play it and he knew tempos ..

i prefer to listen to ella , sarah , carmen , june christie , peggy lee , dinah shore , bette midler , and the best of them all , ms anita oday ,, these gals sang more than ballads they could swing and sing up tempos not just crying jags like alla streisand does . but they also werent movie stars except for maybe garland and clooney ..but they could sing jazz and on up tempo tunes too.. ella wasnt beautiful in figure but,, what heart and soull she had ..

Barbra just proves that beauty comes in many forms and she is a unique beauty in the entire collection of flowers known as women. That may be sexist but I am sticking with it.

Not surprising she became the star that she is with such a voice but not only that, she posess a great sensitivity in her soul. My second favorite version is from Mireille Mathieu.
