Barbra Streisand - Autumn Leaves Lyrics

Et les vents du Nord, les emportant
Dans la nuit blanche de n'oubli
Que moi, je n'ai pas oublie
La chanson que tu me chantais
The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sun-burned hands I used to hold
Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter song
But I miss you most of all, my darling
When the autumn leaves start to fall...

Nice voice. Completely crazy woman. Pity the fool that confuses the two.

her name is spelled BARBRA she had it legally changed long ago.

That's the most beautiful version of that song I've ever heard. When I was a kid, Janis Joplin, M. Callas and Elis Regina were my favorite female singers. I still have all of them in my heart, but Barbra is my favorite for some good years.

Reminiscent of old times that are long gone!

Don't mean to be critical but I think a piano accompaniment would have better matched striesand's voice. The strings are too harsh, but maybe that was the point, harsh winter coming on.

Musicianship, taste and dramatic authenticity paired with a voice of otherworldly quality. One of dozens of her recordings that are peerless.

What's the name of the instrument at the beggining?
Barbara is really great jazz singer, actress and very gifted woman.. Thank you!

    B.... T....

What's the name of the action where the viola plays the fast notes at the beginning?

    B.... T....

Ricochet technique; it's used a lot during the Romantic era (i.e., Mendelssohn's E- Violin Concerto) really as a show-off skill.

    B.... T....

All the violin virtuoso tricks were added on by the interpreting violinists, not by piano playing composers... save Paganini, and many other composers who actually were violinists....

Streisand is about as good as Dyon.  They are both useless.  Piaf forever.

I drive a Peugeot car, that's not worthless or a joke

    y.... ....

+yankiemog Who is Dyon ? I only know a singer called Dion .
Streisand gets always on my nerves when she sings... I dont know why.... maybe the showing off that diminishes authenticity. The less she sings the better it is.
I liked her very much in "whats up doc" until she sang ... I wanted badly to slap her fucking face and strangle her............Same here.

    y.... ....

Whoopee.  Someone with a bit of sense.

Yanyong W. ... There's no nothing in your country other than Sin & Deceitfulness. Your country has no seasons other than temperate ! You hide behind your false contemporary smiles to elude all weak and unsuspected Farangs. Morally your doomed and are pitied throughout the world.

your critique is typically french opinion. Blaming everything except yourself.

    y.... W....

Having lived my life in a country of four seasons, it is hard to believe that your three seasons are actually known as Cool, Hot, and Rainy, with Cool being the best season there is. In Winnipeg, during winter ( our "Cool" season), we hit minus 40 degrees. Nobody visits then.

Toi tu m'aimais, moi je t'aimais
Et nous vivions, tous deux ensemble,
Toi qui m'aimais, moi qui t'aimais."

  64. D.... P....

The first and best version is that of Yves Montand. Edith Piaf goes second and Barbara did a great job.

    D.... P....

    Dr. Paul Gomez PhD
Yes. I would agree that Montand's is the best. I think that Piaf is unique in her own way. I do like many of her songs. But to me Barbra and Piaf are two very different styles that cannot be compared.

must have been a blessing from G-d because her childhood was horrendous, she lost her Dad very young and struggled to prove her talent through her young years in Brooklyn, she is a genius, and made it all on her own.

in no way am i trying to offend barbara strisands version of autumn leaves ..
i believe she was a great performer in every music venue she did .
so if in any way i said anything derogatory about her music i sincerely appoligize . i am a jazz affectionado not a popular music person so perhaps all i was doing was praising my artist like stan getz and zoot sims .

  84. H.... M....

Great comments. With the exception of including bette midler in this mix but you did get Anita and she was great.

  85. F.... Q....

Must be another Streisand, because the Streisand I've heard has sung more than ballads: Jazz, Disco, Opera, Broadway Musicals, even Pop, like Cry me a River, Lascia ch'io pianga, Enough is Enough, Don't Rain on my Parade, Emotion, and the list and spectrum go on. Need I say more?

  86. o.... ....

God I'd love to hear her voice doing a jazz version. OUCH! ;)

  87. b.... ....

I saw both Streisand and Houston live. Houston never came close as a concert performer. Streisand's hold on an audience is something to behold. Even as late as last November at 70 Streisand was unbelievable live. But to each his own:)

  88. C.... G....

    i agree

  89. C.... H....

It is best sung in French because it was originally written in French. The sense of any lyric is best expressed, communicated and felt when performed in its original language.

    C.... H....

You know, I'd have to agree with you there, Curtis. You make an excellent point! :)

  90. B.... D....

AH! The viola is beautiful... I wish I was cool enough to play viola with Barbra... *sigh*

  91. b.... s....

ive done this tune ,, in a medium uptempo and it lays well ... once heard the master stan getz play it and he knew tempos ..
so i do the best i can playing it a bit up so as not to drag and put people to sleep ,

  92. b.... s....

i prefer to listen to ella , sarah , carmen , june christie , peggy lee , dinah shore , bette midler , and the best of them all , ms anita oday ,, these gals sang more than ballads they could swing and sing up tempos not just crying jags like alla streisand does . but they also werent movie stars except for maybe garland and clooney ..but they could sing jazz and on up tempo tunes too.. ella wasnt beautiful in figure but,, what heart and soull she had ..

Barbra just proves that beauty comes in many forms and she is a unique beauty in the entire collection of flowers known as women. That may be sexist but I am sticking with it.

  95. I.... A....

Cette chanson chantée en français par Barbara Streisand est beaucoup plus beau que l'espagnol et mieux. Est-ce parce que le français était mieux exprimer les sentiments d'amour et de tristesse?

  96. j.... ....

I love so much to listen different versions or interpretations of a song. And this one is once again won by Barbara Streisand. Not surprising she became the star that she is with such a voice but not only that, she posess a great sensitivity in her soul. My second favorite version is from Mireille Mathieu.
