Band, The - To Kingdom Come Lyrics

Forefather pointed to kingdom come
Sadly told his only son
Just be careful what you do
It all comes back on you.

False witness spread the news
Somebody's gonna lose
Either she or me or you,
Nothing we can do.

[Chorus]

Don't you say a word
Or reveal a thing you've learned
Time will tell you well
If you truly, truly fell

Tarred and feathered, yea!
Thistled and thorned,
One or the other
He kindly warned.

Now you look out the window tell me
What do you see?
I see a golden calf pointing
Back at me.

I been sitting in here for so darn long
Waitin' for the end to come along.
Holy coaster's on the brink
Take a chance, swim or sink.

False witness, cast an evil eye
said I cannot tell a lie,
Haints and saints don't bother me
I'm not alone you see.

[Chorus]

    lol
    "queenigma"
bet a lot of folks get a laugh from that handle
    the enigmatic divine
are all yr vids so apt to the theme?
thx of course for instant access to the great wake-up tune
    & thx for the laugh

Liken it to Biblical lyrics - also Sacred Harp and the River Hymn. Deeper than you think.

  3. B.... B....

One of my 'desert island discs'.So much evoked about America just in the whole atmosphere and sound. The guitar solo just mixes in with the entity. No other music like it - truly fantastic...

  4. D.... W....

One of my favorite songs and lead guitar solos, Robbie and The Band are definetly recognized but in some ways still a bit lesser known, No other band has ever touched them, such an original sound and a varied repertoire of sounds

  5. M.... B....

I been sitting in here for so darn long
Waitin' for the end to come along.

  6. H.... ....

Can't believe these songs don't have more views. RIP Rick, Richard and Levon!

  7. J.... L....

Enough of the FUCKING commercials! They're annoying as Hell!

  11. P.... B....

    i love the band

  12. 3.... 2....

As the years go by, this song and this album continue to hold up as among the greatest recordings ever made. Robertson's guitar on this track is fantastic

  13. M.... H....

One of Robbie's few lead vocals....mind you....the "backup singers" (LOL) are fabulous! I would be so intimidated singing anything with bandmates like Levon, Rick and Richard. RIP to all 3...much missed, so talented.

  14. M.... H....

Reading Robbie Robertson's "Testimony" and right after that, starting on "Small Town Talk" about the Woodstock scene. As wonderful as this music is, I feel more than a twinge of sadness, thinking Richard, Rick and Levon are gone now.

  15. M.... P....

I bet you these guys got Todd into drugs. hail the record

  16. M.... P....

seriously blown away by Richard Manuel, fallen brother and angel. almost has a Robert Plant pitch on this, never knew he could dig that

    M.... P....

What?! I'm not wrong when I say that Robbie actually has some vocals on this song. Look at 1:15-1:27 for note.

    M.... P....

Did that fact just seriously hurt your feelings, good sir? For shame, man, for shame............

    M.... P....

@Progrockdude nah, that's Richard Manuel, Robbie sings it lead when they played it live, but the band usually had Robbie singing background and slightly later in time

    M.... P....

Robbie sang it live and give it a listen, this song live at winterland. People are commenting that Robbie didn't have the best lead vocal and that the band usually kept his Mic turned down low

    M.... P....

Robbie is definitely in the mix, Manuel is singing the lead vocal though

  17. J.... L....

1 dislike WTF? Must some tone deaf sonofabitch!

    J.... L....

    Hahahaha

  18. .... ....

  19. F.... ....

The 2nd half of the elephant disliked this

  20. W.... ....

Does the guitar sound remind anyone else of George Harrison?

    W.... ....

George Harrison was a big fan of The Band

    W.... ....

N O.Robbie Robertson's guitar sound is UNIQUE to Robbie, ok PAL ???

  21. L.... R....

J'étais complètement passé à côté de cet album. Je découvre et ce que j'entends me plait beaucoup.

  22. T.... T....

One of the greatest bass parts I've heard, alright Mr. D.!

    T.... T....

Such a talented man. I wish he was still with us. I miss his twitchy, jumping around on stage, and that fantastic, unique bass playing, and the singing...wow...his singing...amazing.

  23. s.... n....

One of my favorites, and one I never heard on the radio back in the day.
One of Robbie’s greatest solos, 2:18 on.

    s.... n....

What about the Band's "Look out Cleveland, Houston....da-da-da-da....song ???

    s.... n....

    Agreed . . . Not a wasted note, or one out of place . . .
