Band, The - I Shall Be Released Lyrics

They say everything can be replaced
They say every distance is not near
So I remember every face
Of every man who put me here

I see my light come shinin'
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released

They say every man needs protection
They say that every man must fall
Yet I swear I see my reflection
Somewhere so high above this wall

I see my light come shinin'
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released

Now yonder stands a man in this lonely crowd
A man who swears he's not to blame
All day long I hear him shouting so loud
Just crying out that he was framed

I see my light come shinin'
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released

  27. LJ Andrewes

RIP Richard Manuel, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Dr. John, Bobby Charles, Paul Butterfield, Muddy Waters, Pinetop Perkins, and Pops, Cleotha & Yvonne Staples. And big bad Bill Graham too...

  28. Caitlin Brennan

Bob Dylan is the undisputed best artist of all time FULL STOP.

  29. Mark Read

The way I heard it, Richard was getting less and less reliable, and they didn't expect him to hit the mark. When he started singing, everyone was surprised, and that's why Robbie waved the others off, to let Richard take it. Since they didn't expect him to sing, there was no camera shot set up, other than the wide one.

    R North

I re-watched that part after reading your comment. I can see RR waiving and others getting out of the way. The shot of Ringo looks like he is giving his respect. Thank you for pointing this out to me.

  30. Abdellatif Akdah

Bringing back the time when i was young....i was that movie in morocco...the last waltz

  31. Andrew Carl Elliott

    Serious stuff!

  32. MaryGLambo

    Enige tijd 👅

  33. Kevin Whelan

Gives me goosebumps every time, and how cool is Dylan's hat? Neill Young looks like he's bi-located from the Twilight Zone.

  34. Andrew Thomas

Now this is how you go out

  35. Sans Undertale

    *OREWA ZA HANDO GA*

  36. Richard Condon

Dylan sings at the upper range of the key and changes tempo shockingly. Both secrets to great music.

  37. Richard Condon

Watched Netflix Jacob Dylans Echo and wondering how they could possibly have missed The Band.. The best example of lovely melody that came from the rock, folk combination. It was there, just beneath the surface and all it needed was catching. The Band caught the biggest fish.

  38. Reith Chase

Theres more talent on this one stage than all of the pop artists of the past 10 years.......maybe 15.

  39. Fooey Yu

Bill Graham was really pissed that Robbie Robertson didn't thank him for putting such a huge effort in to producing the 'Last Waltz'.

  40. michael jonn

excuse me for a moment ! I have something in my eye ..

  41. Lars Kutschke

Neil is high as a kite :-D

  42. Joe Banish

What always gets me is Robbie’s face after he says “no doubt about it”. He knew the toll it was taking on Rick, Levon, and especially Richard.

  43. Captain Meemo

“It’s an impossible way of life”

  44. Marshall Smith™

The Band, Bob Dylan, Ronnie Wood, Ringo Starr, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, and on and on what a lineup.

  96. deja75m

The never used the original sound track when they filmed the movie. That prick robber Roberson had the whole thing recorded again in studio. And went on to screw his band mates. Jerk

  97. Oskarileikos

I simply cannot watch this without crying

    Andrew Carl Elliott

Because you know some back stories...and it always put you there.
Regardless of who is singing it.

    El Fenomeno

CooManTunes Ok but nobody asked you to be a fucking asshole. The reason they mentioned The Band is because it’s okay to cry to beautiful music.

    El Fenomeno

François Gaspard That’s what you may believe, but during their time, The Band was just as, if not, maybe more important than The Stones, Dylan, and Clapton combined. The irony of the ignorance you display in your comment is baffling, considering that when The Band came out, they influenced all the bands/artists such as The Beatles, The Stones, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd/Roger Waters, etc to change up their style. The importance and influence of The Band is unrivaled.

    ToWelie Mc tOweLL fAceE

Same here brother, youre not alone friend

    RandomPlayIist

@Paul Bryan The only pussies here are you guys that got triggered because someone experienced emotion from a song. Why so weak bro?
