Band Of Horses - Dull Times / The Moon Lyrics

Setting sun, forgot who I was
Put the garbage where it doesn't belong
All is numb, two minutes to one
What's your life like with all that you've done?
You've done, you've done

Listen close wherever you go
Dull times, let'em seep into your bones
Keep it kind, always in time
Honest themes every once in a while
In a while, in a while
In a while, in a while

Filthy room, guitars out of tune
Blank thoughts like I promised to you
Underneath is there something to see?
Slower clouds only reflecting
On the water, on the water,
On the water, on the water
Feel's like I'm going insane, why bother?

The home is where the heart is
How long we've apart, it's been hard
Or home is where you are
Which side I live on, I won't say

Home is where the heart is
How long we've been apart
It's been hard-er home
Home is where you are
And which side I live on
Long we've been apart, home
Is where the heart
Home is where you are

Blank state and maudlin
In need of something to say
Get to solving this thinking problem
Dissolution at the start of the day
Start of the day

I administered badly
Dreaming mysteries up
The stars spinning around and around me
While the tasks keep piling up
Piling up, they're piling up

I might talk to the ceiling
I never need something to do
I never needed a reason to stare into the light
The light of the moon
(Moon)
Staring at the light
(Moon)

Home is where the heart is, home is where you are
Long we've been apart, which side I live on
Home is where the heart
Staring at the light
(Moon)
Staring at the light
(Moon)

    Best song of 2016.

  2. W.... T....

My dad texted me this 😳

This song takes me back home. Standing by the lake, listening to the gentle waves brush past me. A few stars in the sky. Enough to guide your way. Legs dangling off of the dock, toes dancing on the surface of the water. Just listening to the universe. I never knew it, but what experienced was in fact divinity. Love and light to all. May your spirit shine bright like the sun.

  4. s.... ....

love the midrange crunch that dominates the end of the track ... very lovely ...

  5. s.... ....

Brooding, lengthy and so very lovely. Among the best you all have written of late ... but that's just me. Please make more.

  6. p.... ....

David Gilmour called, he wants his song back.

  7. C.... W....

What a somber sullen beautifully slow/rocking masterpiece.

I think I just keep doing the same thing
And occasionally I - what I do crosses
With the general, general attitude of the public
And it becomes very successful
And then I am a failure and a has been
And then I cross back again
But I am going straight
To me, I am going in a straight line
Everybody else is just going like this

Filthy room, guitars out of tune
Blank thoughts like I promised to you
Underneath is there something to see?
Slower clouds only reflecting

Just saw their last show and first of 2017 at the Hard Rock Cancun for a resort weekend called Avetts At the Beach. They had this song as the encore with middle breezes coming from the Gulf right behind the stage and a full moon out. Was definitely amazing.

  11. L.... V....

This song is great but it's a perfect copy of David Gilmour's The Blue

  12. M.... D....

Uh Neil Young On The Beach is all I hear. In a good way.

  13. S.... C....

I agree with you Shawn, when I first heard this song I thought of Gilmour's The Blue. With that being said, The Blue - a great song  Dull Times/The Moon - a great song too. Musicians like Authors have favorites and can be influenced by them. Or it's a coincidence. Either way being compared to Gilmours not a bad thing is it?

    S.... C....

Steve Canham I've never even met a person that knows the island album. and you're spot on, the opening especially reminds me of that song

    S.... C....

Hey Jesse, what's great for me now is the sheet music for guitar for this song is available on ultimate-guitar.com. So as I learn Dull Times maybe I'll get a peek into Gilmour's style. Cheers.

  14. K.... O....

    this song is so relaxing

  15. E.... S....

I mean this as a compliment. This sounds a lot like Floyd's album Meddle. Lovely melody, the type of music you can get lost in.

  16. S.... D....

This is by far album of the year

  17. J.... C....

    Gracias.

  18. L.... K....

    Niiice!

  19. R.... D....

have been obsessed with this song (and album) for weeks.

    R.... D....

    For years now

    R.... D....

I just discovered this band about a year ago ( where the hell have I been) - and I'm obsessed with them. Amazing!

  20. S.... B....

    The Blue by David Gilmour?

    S.... B....

Really similar and I love it because of that :)

    S.... B....

Not a “total rip” by any stretch. It’s not as if David Gilmour OWNS Major 9 chords over slow tempos. This is a very commonly used chord shape, and a very common tempo that usually accompanies it.

Also, there are so few chords and it’s such a simple progression. Gilmour did not pioneer any of these things.

    S.... B....

Sorry, I meant major 7 chords, not major 9.

    S.... B....

    Hissing Flora thank you

    S.... B....

    Better than "the blue!"🌞
