They also interfere with the creative process, controlling what the artist sings, how the songs sound, & order of release of the music & such.(That's why so many songs on the radio sound the same). He was signed to a major label, but created his own in order to have total creative control, he writes, sings, produces, & releases whatever he wants, a huge blessing for any artist. Downside, less promotion & fame. He's obviously more talented than more famous artists, he plays instruments & has huge vocal range, & just has more talent. He's simply putting creativity before fame, apparently by choice..I have a friend I went to high school with plays the guitar as good as anyone I've ever heard...since Jimi Hendrix, & I know other's as well, they just choose to put out what they want & have total creative control...that's why they call them "sellouts". Like Maroon 5, all their songs sound the same, Band has more talent in his pinky finger than Adam Levine, the best musicians are NOT the most famous! Check out the song he did with Santana, widely considered to be one of the best guitarists of this generation. He's usually listed in the top 5 or 10 best guitarists of all time, & rightly so. But he didn't get really famous until he started performing with famous established artists, like Smooth with Rob Thomas.
