Baez, Joan - Man Of Constant Sorrow Lyrics

I am a man of constant sorrow
I've seen trouble all my days
I'll say goodbye to Colorado
Where I was born and partly raised.

Your mother says I'm a stranger
My face you'll never see no more
But there's one promise, darling:
I'll see you on God's golden shore.

Through this open world I'm about to trouble
Through ice and snows, sleet and rain
I'm about to ride that morning railroad
Perhaps I'll die on that train.

I'm going back to Colorado
The place that I started from
If I had known how bad you'd treat me honey
I never would have come.

Beautiful cover. Much prefer it to the Blue Grass version.

Joan is forever a class act.  This is tough song to do a great job with and all we have to do is listen and we can hear the range of her voice and clearity with which she sings this song that many have done over the  years.  Find a better version if you can but I think that is going to take a lot of work if it can be done at all.

I actually prefer Judy Collins' version on her first album. Judy sings it at a slower tempo and with more expression than Joan.

Scout4Me1.Thank you, so much. I'm so glad that Joan stuck with the original lyrics as we know them in our recorded times. The song has evolved and changed through the decades, perhaps for 200 years. Her plaintive voice would have been appropriate for it's origination, but not her refined sophistication in the way she sang . But that's just Joan and her style and voice. I mean no harm.

Kentucky ...state where I was born'd and raised - luv it. Can't work out which version I like the most - this or Judy Collins version with "goin back to Colorado state where I was partly raised.." Both superb - I will not chose.

    f.... ....

Judy Collins sings "going back to CALIFORNIA," not Colorado, and Collins' singing is better for this particular song.
