Baez, Joan - London Lyrics

I wander through each chartered street,
Near where the chartered Thames does flow,
And mark in every face I meet,
Marks of weakness, marks of woe.

In every cry of every man,
In every infant's cry of fear,
In every voice, in every ban,
The mind-forged manacles I hear:

How the chimney-sweeper's cry
Every blackening church appals,
And the hapless soldier's sigh
Runs in blood down palace-walls.

But most, through midnight streets I hear
How the youthful harlot's curse
Blasts the new-born infant's tear,
And blights with plagues the marriage-hearse.

Baez, Joan London Comments
  1. J.... U....

Joan Baez, is the world’s concience, she has throughout her life battled injustice, bigotry, she is the true Social Activist. Plus her voice, that of an angel, was given to her by God. She has used her wonderful talent for the pleasure of millions. I have been in love since 1965, along with legions of other guys.
She should have shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Bob Dylan.

It's not that I especially like this kind of music. But it just goes straight into the heart.

1968 I was 17 years old. My best friend and I went to the Joan Baez concert in Tempe Arizona it was on the University campus. This is one concert that I'll never forget because it was so telling and true. I am now 68 years old and her voice is ingrained in my memory. I had a red Volkswagen need I say more. Joan Baez incredible voice will always be there for us to listen to. As the years went by I. have heard different interpretations of the various songs she sang at the concert. But no one could sing it like her. All she needs is a guitar and the rest is gravy. Thank you for posting and for all your sincere comments Etc. When my daughter was 12 years old she heard Joan Baez sing Diamonds and rust. Just like me to my daughter music is like breathing. She would sing all these different songs she had a beautiful voice. Just like me. My daughter passed away at the age of 31 due to an autoimmune disease. She died peacefully after being in the ICU at the Mayo Hospital in Phoenix Arizona. For 13 days. Just like Joan Baez my daughter's voice is ingrained in my mind I have those beautiful memories that no one can take away from me. Sincerely Arnold & Linda Amaral my daughter's name was Danielle Kasper her husband Wayne is a beautiful man in body and soul. Thank you. May you always be Forever Young . 🌿💛🌏🌍🌎

When I met her I was 16 and she was 36 years old. It was at a concert in Alicante, Spain. I had just bought an album from her, Farewell, Angelina. Since then I am in love with her. Every time I watch a video of her or listen to her voice I get excited. I will never forgive you for living so far away from me, I will never forgive you for being 20 years older than me, I will never forgive you for not crossing my street, I will never forgive you for not being able to smell your hair ... never, but I can not stop loving you . Your eyes, your lips, your smile ... your way of understanding life, your songs, your lyrics ... your life. How I would have liked to be part of your life. You are beautiful on the outside and inside. I love you. I love you so much.

This is proof that Joan Baez in the world's greatest singer for the past century. Sad that we never hear her on the radio, not even NPR.

It was recorded at The Place, a club in Victoria Street in Edinburgh's old town. October 1965. The building remained a club and venue for many years, most recently as Espionage, but closed earlier this year

Fell in love with her in 1961. Met her in Carmel CA. That love never died.

    C.... B....

I used to go up to Carmel years ago and remembering that Joan Baez  & Mimi were living in that area & Carmel Valley.  I have been a huge fan my whole life and  still love going to Carmel every few years.  I have just about every Joan Baez album.  Are you still in contact with Joan?  I used to hang out on the beach in Carmel as a teenager.
