Baez, Joan - Ghetto Lyrics

If you ever lived in a ghetto
And maybe at the close of your day
On your front porch you hear the sound of a jukebox
From the neighbourhood cafe

Well in the noon you may hear the neighbours fussing
When a kid breaks a window pane
In the night, in the night you may be wakened
By the outbound train

Well the rich folks they own the big city
And they down us who living the way we do
But when you're born a child of a poor man
You know the ghetto is the only place for you

Well if there's such a thing as revolution
And there will be if we rise to the call
When we build we build we build we build the new Jerusalem
There won't be no more ghetto, ghetto at all
No there won't be no more ghetto, ghetto at all

What an amazing song. Joan sings it so beautifully. She really gives it all she has to give. I own Joan Baez,s Signature.

Would you post the vinyl version? Much richer sounding.

Hi Manic M. This video does use my vinyl version of the song. If you listen closely, you can hear a surface noise "pop" at the start of the line "The rich folks own the big city." I only use CDs if I'm unhappy with the quality of sound on the old vinyl record or it makes some sense to have both versions. Are you listening on the YouTube website or on an app? I don't know if that may make some difference. I did just listen on YouTube and the sound seemed OK. Are you comparing to someone else's vinyl version? I don't use the WAV (lossless) version from my CD recording of the vinyl record because I know the Movie Maker program and the YouTube upload are going to compress, but maybe that would give a better result.
