Baez, Joan - All My Trials Lyrics

Hush little baby, don't you cry,
You know your mother was born to die
All my trials, Lord, soon be over
Too late my brothers, too late
But never mind
All my trials, Lord soon be over

The river of Jordan is chilly and cold
It chills the body but it warms the soul,
All my trials, Lord soon be over

I've got a little book with pages three,
And every page spells liberty,
All my trials Lord, soon be over
Too late my brothers, too late
But never mind
All my trials, Lord soon be over

If living were a thing that money could buy,
You know the rich would live
And the poor would die,
All my trials Lord, soon be over

There grows a tree in Paradise,
The Christians call it the tree of life,
All my trials Lord, soon be over
Too late my brothers, too late
But never mind
All my trials, Lord soon be over

@MrMusicguyma In your opinion !!!! Not mine... By the way, this "hearing-challenged ninny ", has played guitar, banjo, bass guitar for over 60 years. Worked out of Nashville for almost 20 years. Some studio work. I guess that's the problem. Folk music is totally different than Country or Rock. Folk to me is boring, with simple chords and structures. While people were listening to Beaz, I was literally Running through the jungle with Creedence Clearwater, Vietnam, and playing every new song they made. When I returned to San Deigo, It was the peace-loving, Kumbaya, Beaz assholes throwing eggs, bricks, stones at us and calling us murderers. No, I'll stick to Jazz, Blues, Country. She makes my challenged ears hurt. !!

It seems that part of your lack of appreciation of folk music goes back the role that some folk singers had during the civil rights/ anti- war  movement. The movement turned political to be sure, but this is not a political song.

@Sole to soul Amen to that statement.

@pat welch Yet you go to a video of someone you hate to hear just to criticize her. For that, we should appreciate your opinion? Live and let live, Man.

@pat welch You cannot even spell her name. nuff said.

She was on the cover of Time when she was just 19. The most influential folk singer of the early 1960s before the Beatles and Dylan usurped the decade. She was it.

We used to sing this in school assembly at infant school, I used to sit there wanting to cry at the sadness of the words, it's always stuck with me.

    J.... P....

Jonty Piper a miserable song for infants...

    J.... P....

Jesus Christ. What kind of school would choose this to sing to kids?
