Yeap. This one is my favorite. I hate that i fall to using other people's descriptions of life to convey my own inner thoughts but, goddamn, it's like my heart was there when this was written.

I can only hope there are many more out there that feel the same way.

it's pretty wild, but I dare say this song is even better at 75% speed. Plus, it's way more accessible to English language learners that way. I'm thinking of bringing this song & lyrics in as a supplemental class activity for my B1 level group next week. I share the class w/ another teacher who loves to bring in pop songs with exceedingly vapid lyrics, based mostly around simplistic romantic encounters, parties and fashion. I hope to use this song to segue into a conversation about the value of sanity in art & society now vs. two centuries ago when the regional king of sanity-bending in literature, Nikolai Gogol was developing his writing style and outlook on life. It should be fun :)

Wait, I had SANITY to begin with? Sometimes I do realize that I am too deep into my subjective reality, then I smack myself some Bad Religion tracks on to find a True North. However, the individual has to ask, from an epistemological perspective, that "sanity" is not always dictated by one's social circles but more by the reigning intelligentsia or public opinion whose experiences are antithetical to an individuals'. Days of insane optimism are better than sane pessimism of reality.

Bad Religion is the music that made me the man I am today.

I don't always know where my mind is actually going. In the legitimate and very scary sense that I'm not always really sure whether or not the same me will be here tomorrow.


I can focus and meditate and attempt to forcibly pull myself in, but there's not always a way to be sure that what I'm experiencing is actually the real world as it's supposed to be.


I just hold myself fast, like it's an anchor or something, to the idea that I'm sane and that my medication is doing what it's supposed to.


This song is probably more real than it has any right to be.
