It's a simple recognizable symbol of the most popular religion. It's offensive and it gets people talking/thinking. The symbol is not out of malice towards, or contempt for followers of the referenced religion.

Hahahaha. The author's name is Greg Graffin. I couldn't think of the name of the book, and I can't now, either. I do know, however, that it is a really long title (probably why I can't remember it). He's only written the one book. Go on Amazon.com, search for "greg graffin". You'll see his book, and his solo CD's.

It's not so much "tree hugging" as it's Greg (singer, main songwriter) having a different idea of Man's place in the world than most people. He's really into Evolutionary Biology. Most of the gaps between albums/tours in the band's history have been when he was either working on his doctorate or studying in the field. He wrote a book that's half band history, half talking about evolution. It's actually a really interesting book. Every fan should read it
