Bad Religion - Avalon Lyrics

As the sun comes creeping up the mountain and the wind blows over from the sea
Hey, we're brought into this land like tiny particles of sand, unsure of who we're smarter than, or what we're meant to be
Oh the grains sift coarsely through the hour glass and collect like their victims in the bowl
The ungodly force of change erodes all sense of earthly gains
While tending to the mundane will terrorize your soul
And it's no! It's no use thinking that you're wrong
The past is old and gone
It's best to move along and find your Avalon

Well, I wish that I could tell you it was easy, just take the paved road right to paradise
But the truth is my friend, the pain and suffering never ends
Make amends with medicine, amnesia, and lies
The grains sift coarsely through the hour glass and they pound like boulders on the brain
All those things you did for fun, never hurting anyone, careless shadows in the sun, just empty and lame
And it's no... it's no use thinking that you're wrong
The past is old and gone
It's best to move along and find your Avalon

It's no use thinking that you're wrong
The past is dead and gone
It's best to move along and find your Avalon

So now the day races from the twilight
How the fields are enveloped by the shade
And the story that you'll tell, inventory of your well, crack the shell and find the mortar silted and decayed
And it's no! It's no use thinking that you're wrong
The past is dead and gone
It's best to move along and find your Avalon
It's best to hurry on and find your Avalon

    Easily the most beautiful and heartwrenching song Bad Religion has ever created. I cry shamelessly....

  11. j.... ....

    I was there in Cincinnati on October 11, 2010 when they played this live for the very first time. Good stuff!!

  12. m.... ....

    I would agree.. now that I have Truth North, I've gone back to this and this album is strange because half of it is really kind of shitty.. but the other half is unbelievable. Truth North is much more balanced.

  13. y.... ....

    Great song, featuring Greg's most epic "Watch-O!" in all of BR history. Long live those double pick slides!

  14. S.... J....

    One of the top 3 songs on their new album! I love the way he sings that part: And it's no . . . it's no use thinking that you're wrong......

  15. m.... ....

    @gunnarengerben: you must be kidding...

  16. s.... ....

    @vekypula12345 ofc it is.... your dont have to find your avalon to recognize that ;)

  20. E.... ....

    This is definitely one of my favorite songs from BR in the past decade. I think Brett mentioned once that the best songs may have some deep underlying meaning, but on the surface it's something everyone can relate with. In this case, forgetting the negativity of the past and moving on to find happiness for yourself.

  21. c.... ....

    not their best album by far but in my opinion one of their best songs ever

  22. N.... P....

    oh this song. Beautiful arrangment of words and music. perfect emotion.

  23. d.... ....

  24. c.... r....

    THIS IS A SONG THAT AFTER 30 MORE YEARS PASS WILL BE LOOKED UPON BY THE REAL ONES AS A GEM A SOUNDTRACK FOR THE DESTINED ONES NIETZSCHE WUD BE PROUD

  25. C.... ....

    @AlmostaFlipinSkater

    thanks for the suggestion. i checked them out. not that great. mute wails over them.

  26. l.... c....

    @oregonflatland
    THE FLATLINERS are a young punk rock band that fucking rip it. i heard of them because fat mike would not stop talking about how good and punk rock they are. they're only 23 too.

  27. C.... ....

    nofx and br are consistently the best punk bands out there. less than jake have been pretty consistent over time as well but their last record was kind of a let down. the new rise against record is ok but not on par with dissent of man.

    i've been trying to find some new bands out there but there aren't many good ones. the best i've heard is mute from canada. they sound like br but more aggressive with a lot of metal influence. they really kick ass. also check out the down and outs.

  28. c.... r....

    @oregonflatland 100% agree i only look forward to new nofx and BR albums and both remain relevant as well as the songs are all still great to listen too any time from any album (except that keyboard album LOL)

  29. z.... ....

    This song plus The Resistance, Pride and the pallor, Only Rain, and Wrong Way kids are amazing sons on this album. The rest are good aswell.

  30. C.... ....

    @AlmostaFlipinSkater

    none that really matter anymore. nofx is probably the only other band that's still relevant. rancid's last record was a fucking pile of dogshit. propagandhi are still shredding but they sound more metal now. bad religion is the only band that has stayed true to their sound for so long and still manage to put out new original music.

  31. C.... ....

    @Spongebob1976

    it is! i saw them play in november and they played this song it was fucking EPIC! it's a close call between avalon, only rain, and meeting of the minds IMO.

  32. l.... c....

    @oregonflatland
    theres many bands that are still punk. ex: nofx, anti-flag, rancid. but yes, i agree that bad religion is still the best and rips harder than ever

  33. S.... ....

    How is this not the best song of the album???

  34. F.... ....

    @NewDarkAges13 yeah descendants were there also

  35. L.... ....

    It's best to hurry on.

  36. d.... b....

    @fedcha7 where? if it was in texas, were the Descendents there???

  37. F.... ....

    saw them at fun fun fun fest and it was SO AMAZING

  38. T.... ....

    PUNKROCK NEVER DIE!!

  39. T.... ....

    GOD!!!!!

  40. S.... H....

    quality,thank you.oi! oi!

  41. N.... .....

    @Oregonflatland to be able to consider any song on this album weak is ignorant, simply because you're incapable of comprehending what the meaning of the song is.

  42. A.... H....

    Best song on the album

    EPIC

  43. v.... ....

    after days of listening and relistening i must say this is one of the ,if not THE best song on the new album

  44. E.... R....

    @oregonflatland How can you say its weak towards the end?? you have i wont say anything and ad hominem

  45. M.... F....

    NOFX still matters too! They all live in Mattersville. Long live Bad Relgion and NOFX!

  46. M.... ....

    This song is so fucking awesome. It sounds like it would fit perfectly on The Process of Belief. Along with Only Rain, Resist Stance, and Ad Hominem, this has the potential to be a BR classic and a concert staple.

  47. C.... ....

    @Bulunderuuun

    much better than NMOH although it is very weak toward the end of the record.

  48. C.... ....

    @timotheophany

    i agree. their new material is better than the old stuff IMO. the songs are more interesting and complex, although i can't say i really like the lyrics in this new record. they are very un-bad religion like.

  49. B.... ....

    This album any good guys? Better than new maps?

  50. a.... ....

    sounds to me like the best song of the album (so far ;) )

  51. t.... ....

    @oregonflatland hell yes! Greg Graffin's songwriting just keeps getting better and better; I really don't know how he does it. Mr. Brett's got some serious winners on this album too.

  52. C.... ....

    this is proof that these guys still rip harder than all and bad religion is the only punk band left that matters. bad religion perform another miracle and still define the genre after 30 years!
