Bad Religion - American Jesus (Andy Wallace Mix) Lyrics

I don't need to be a global citizen,
'Cuz I'm blessed by nationality.
I'm member of a growing populace,
We enforce our popularity.
There are things that seem to pull us under and,
There are things that drag us down.
But there's a power and a vital presence,
It's lurking all around.

We've got the American Jesus,
See him on the interstate.
We've got the American Jesus,
He helped build the President's estate.

I feel sorry for the Earth's population,
'Cuz so few live in the U.S.A.
At least the foreigners can copy our morality,
They can visit but they cannot stay.
Only precious few can garner our prosperity,
It makes us walk with renewed confidence.
We got a place to go when we die,
And the architect resides right here.

We've got the American Jesus,
Bolstering national faith.
We've got the American Jesus,
Overwhelming millions every day.

He's the farmer's barren fields, (In God)
The force the army wields, (We trust)
Expressions on the faces of the starving millions, (Because He's one of us)
The power of the man, (Break down)
He's the fuel that drives the Klan, (Cave in)
He's the motive and the conscience of the murderer, (We can redeem your sins)
He's the preacher on T.V., (Strong heart)
The false sincerity, (Clear mind)
The form letter that's written by the big computers, (And infinitely kind)
The nuclear bombs, (You lose)
The kids with no moms, (We win)
And I'm fearful that he's inside me... (He is our champion)

We've got the American Jesus
See him on the interstate
We've got the American Jesus
Exercising his authority
We've got the American Jesus
Bolstering national faith
We've got the American Jesus
Overwhelming millions every day

One nation, under God...

  1. d.... r....

Bad Religion getting some Religion! lol

  2. M.... ....

This song was the first song I ever heard from BR. I had no idea at the time that it was intended as a Christmas song. LOL

    M.... ....

This isn't a christmas song, it was just intended as a bonus track on this album. The song was originally on their 1994 album stranger than fiction, but a sound engineer remixed it

    Perfect streaming

  9. T.... S....

    so rad, damn!

  10. C.... P....

    que daora mano

  11. C.... ....

"More bass mix". Well, i didn't ask for it, but FUCK YEAH

    C.... ....

Cymbals are less washy and more defined, backing vocals are clearer, less background noise. Just an overall better mix really. But I agree, fuck yeah!

  12. a.... ....

I love the bass tone... Holy wow.

    a.... ....

sounds like a sansamp or a ProCoRat

  13. S.... S....

Andy Wallace mixed this for them in 1994 when he was "auditioning" to be the engineer for Stranger Than Fiction. Engineers sometimes remix a preexisting song to show the band what they are capable of.

    S.... S....

    You are correct sir

    S.... S....

    Good information! Thanks!

    S.... S....

Is this the same from a 7" American Jesus Promo called (Radio Mix Version)
    https://www.discogs.com/es/Bad-Religion-American-Jesus/release/1249522

    S.... S....

graduated high school that year, Jesus saved my life a couple years ago. thank God and bad religion.

    S.... S....

@Daniel C Jesus didn't save my life, but he definitely saved my orgasms--in his mouth!

  14. p.... ....

Jeff Varner who cares iron maiden sucks!!!

    p.... ....

Whoa there... I completely disagree that the riff is a "rip-off" of Hallowed Be Thy Name, but saying Iron Maiden sucks is uncalled for. I wouldn't want to live in a world without Maiden or Bad Religion!

    p.... ....

only thing about iron maiden that was cool or good was eddie and the art work.

  15. P.... T....

So this is suppose to be a remix...? Because it sounds almost exactly the same

    P.... T....

@Marcus Buba From what i remember andy saying in an interview all he did was clean up and remaster the original stem tracks.

    P.... T....

Do you understand what a remix is? Its not like in electronic music where they redo the entire song. Its just mixed to sound better. Fix a bad original mix. Maybe get rid of the high hiss from the crash symbols. Make the bass more prevalent. Up the backing vocals, lower them. Ect. That is it. Its pretty simple.

    P.... T....

The vocals are vastly improved, the harmonies are better, some back up vocals appear in the right channel. More reverb on the vox too, I think. Bass is more pronounced and thick.

    P.... T....

it's a remix in the traditional sense, not the electro sense. there's a LOT more bass in this version

    P.... T....

This is the superior version imo.

  16. J.... B....

I have an idea boys... how about a full B Sides collection.. almost everyone worth a shit has released one and Id LOOOOOOVE to get my hands on your b-sides... kisses

  17. W.... ....

    JUST BEAUTIFUL!
Bad Religion shows that having ideals or contrary thoughts to the social acceptance of others beliefs does not mean you can't join in the "spirit" of things! No one is born religious, agnostic or atheist, these are usually handed down by parents and elders, then years later as they grow and learn some choose their own truths or superstitions (sorry I had to). We all were kids once and some remember good times good food and good feelings with the music and decorations and often long to be the kid again where wonder and hope were all you needed to make the lights seem brighter and the  eggnog  noggier..
This album is something rad you can share with the whole fam, and if you forgot about the last song ... he he he (maybe a little nephew or niece will ask questions sooner than later in Sunday school).
Love that they included the American Jesus at the end, the epitome of a Bad Religion song.

  18. R.... P....

The only band I'll never get tired of listening to.

    R.... P....

⬆️ And yet you have the offspring symbol as your profile picture? Shame

  19. J.... V....

They totally stole the riff from iron maiden. see 1:18 of hallowed be thy name.

    J.... V....

Jeff Varner maybe, but I don't not mind and it is a damn good riff

  20. J.... ....

Great song, but doesn't sound much different than the original, I was hoping for a studio version with the "Feed The World" medley that they have done live in the past.

  21. R.... ....

It really is, expect nothing but hate for even mentioning Green Day on videos like this. I DON'T FUCKING GET IT. Why do so many punks have to be so narrow mined when it comes to whats good punk and whats bad. Hardcore, Pop Punk, Ska Punk..etc JUST ENJOY THE MUSIC PEOPLE

  22. C.... M....

Yea, it's still an awesome song for being Bad Religion and in general.

  23. J.... B....

I think all supermarkets should be forced at gunpoint to pipe this album through their p.a. systems throughout the fucking annoying xmas period....this overtakes the pogues (or the darkness if you're that way inclined) as the greatest xmas souhdtrack of all time....good work fellas.

  24. L.... O....

    But he approves?

  25. p.... ....

Brett said he lost this version, so they probably found it and decided to put on the album

  26. G.... B....

Ladies and gentlemen, there WAS a war on Christmas. Bad Religion just won it.

  27. E.... ....

Relating Green Day to any 70's/80's punk rock band = the best method to get hazed by hardcore punk fans

    E.... ....

I mean, said 70s and 80s rock bands respect green day

  28. A.... P....

    Sounds like green day...I approve

  29. B.... ....

Added backing vocals not on the original recording: 'We got a place to go when we die and the architect resides right here.'

Panning the backing vocals to the right in the bridge section

  30. E.... ....

What I think this is is pretty much a studio producer (Andy Wallace) using studio equipment to slightly change how the song sounds. I noticed that Greg's voice echoed very slightly, that the guitar chords sounded a bit cleaner, and that the chanting at the end was kind of different from what I remember (or it could all just be my bad ear :/ ).

Honestly, I think it's just Bad Religion thinking that it'd be a good idea to put this song in a Christmas album...

    Classy as ever, BR...

  31. E.... ....

This song is going to be my Christmas Carol.

  32. s.... ....

sorry for the ignorance, but can someone please tell me wuts the difference between this version of the song and the first one?

    s.... ....

The bass and chorus voices sound more clear

  33. C.... M....

Guys, this is not your best song, but you've had worse. It's Bad Religion so it's cool.

  34. d.... ....

Wish you guys would've included "The First Noel"

  35. A.... L....

what other better moment to speak about american jesus than christmas?

  36. n.... ....

did you guys release this album literally just to have an excuse to do a slightly touched up version of American Jesus? good enough excuse for me!

  37. H.... D....

    Sounded the same to me

  38. P.... C....

poor brian was absent when Bad Religion lectured on Jesus

  39. E.... J....

    Songs like these are rare...Amazing..

  40. T.... ....

Got to the end of the album and SLIGHTLY disappointed no studio version of silent night.. Still an awesome album!

  41. P.... C....

    Aways surprising me!!!

  42. G.... M....

    perfect fit for the mix

  43. G.... ....

Perfect way to end an album.

  44. D.... S....

Still one of the best songs they ever wrote.

  45. a.... ....

"American Jesús" is anything and everything it wants to be!

  46. B.... B....

    This is xmas?
