I think this is the only Ayreon album where I actually knew most of the singers before looking up who they were and which band they're originally from.
Dream Theater got me into progressive rock/metal when I didn't even know what it was. There's no way I'd miss LaBrie's voice. I still think he's the best Kevin from the band, no shade to Kevin Moore. Even though they made more of the jammy-est (?) songs with Metropolis, Learning to Live, Lie, and Space Dye Vest.
I'm not the proudest that I didn't hear of Floor Janset before ReVamp, but heck her voice is also hard to miss if you've heard her voice before. I absolutey love that she joined Nightwish, truy making them the most aesome band in existence. Next to Ayreon, of course. Legit though, The Dream Dissloves and Deathcry of A Race give me major Nightwish vibes, not just with Floor's voice at its softest, powerful and opeatic, but just the instuemental pieces too.
Epica IS Simone Simons. Try and convince me otherwise, I dare you. Kudos to the AOT tribute! Makes a metalhed weeb like me cry tears of pride and joy. I honestly wish she wasn't just the default gentle voice when needed becasue she desn't get to show off her range as efficiently. Kudos on her operatic voice on Deathcry of A Race though! I'll just clump in Nils K Rue here too, Because Pagan's Mind is basically just him. Another very very distinct voice that I can pick out from a mile away. At least he got more dynamic singing parts like the second half of Sea of Machines. Just yes!
Between The Buried and Me is a kickass band that I didn't jive with until the second Parallax. You can say Tommy Giles Rogers has an affinity for sci-fi albums, because he's a great storyteller no matter whether hes screaming, growling, or singing clean like on this abum. Honestly expected more harsh vocal work, like with Mikael Akerfeldt on The Human Equation, but I'm not complaining. End of Everybody Dies is my favourite part becsue you cna actually hear him screm out DIES!! util it fades. Golden ending to a golden song.
Speaking of THU (The Human Equation), If anyone has heard Mercy Falls by Seventh Wonder, can you blame me for thinking that prog metal bands really seem to love putting guys in comas? Even though Tommy Karevik wasn't in THU, the albums did come out within ike a year from each other. So.... huh. Also his voice is probably the second most versatile on this whole album, only second to my man Mike MIlls. I'm acually surprised that I like him so much because he's the only one I hadn't heard of before this album. Turns out he also played the Father in The Theory of Everything. So... huh. Arjen must like pitting these two against each other, because you know The Opposition Leader vs TH-1 and The President. Listen to Planet Y is Alive! to check out their dynamics within the same song. It sounds amazing as a pre climax for the album.
Bruh. Avanstasia. Will always be epic. Although I've only listened to The Metal Opera pt 1 and 2, I think that's all I needed to be honest. (AAlso only started exploring Edguy after listenng to this album) Pretty much the same for Hansi Kursch. Man. Arjen says it best. It's like he's roaring from atop a mountain, like a true leader prepared to guide and protect all those who choose to follow, like a true... Guardian. Heck. Compare this track to And Then There Was Silence and come back to me and tell me you're not convinced of his vocal prowess.
Speaking of vocal prowess. Rusell Allen is incredible. He has a really bluesy voice, true, but on the other tracks in the album he really shows his range. Still a downplay from his original stuff with Symphony X though. He does show good range in Planet Y is Alive! and Into The Ocean. A good song to really encompass everything this man can do, listen to The Odyssey. The song, not the album, although it's practically 1/3 of the whole album with its 24 minute play time. Worth every second as a prog legend (song) about a legend (Odysseus) by the great Homer himself.
Also is it jst me bit man there are alot of prog songs going way over 10+ minutes. There's The Odyssey and Divine Wings Of Tragedy of you want 20+, but there's also Iconoclast and Through The Looking Glass; Blind Guardian's And Then There Was Silence is 14 minites; practically every second song from Dream Theater's Train of Thought, plus A change of Seasons and Octavarium; Epica's eponymous album tracks like The Quantum Enigma and The Holographic Principle etc; Also half the tracks from The Parallax II by BTBAM like Melting City and Silent Flight Paliament, which I'll say are absolute masterpieces and really show off all the technical and prgressice elements they explore throughout the rest of the album. Plus they really set the mood as the climax of the album very very well. And let's not forget Circus Maximus with Architect of Fortune, The Mouth of Madness, Glory of the Empire and of course their epic The 1st Chapter just shy of the 20 minute mark. Really though Michael Eriksen aint half bad as a singer. I'm surprised to hear him on an Ayreon album becase Arjen seems to find more high profile singers or more versatile vocalists like Jorn Lande and Jonas Renske on 01011001. But I'm not complaining. He's got a vey distinct tone to his voice that I just can't place but it's rather unique. Like the way he sounds at the end of his second verse. Very very reminiscent of The Last Goodbye. Criminally underrated prog rock band, needs more credit.
Honourable mention credit goes to the Z man Zaher from Myrath who, like Toehider, I hadn't heard of before this album. So thank you Arjen for including all these talents on your album and allowing us to widen our library of musical artists.

Arjen I've been a huge listener to all your albums and songs from when I was 13 just in highschool and have been absolutely hooked since and now pushing 22! One of my music assignments was a presentation explaining your Ayreon music project and got an A on based on how passionate I was about your passion! So much dedication, thought, time and most of all so much passion is put into every single piece that has been and is still produced to this day. Cannot get enough of it and this album featured so many unique sounds, vocal ranges and prog. Takes you to another world and takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, every song gives me the goosebumps! House on Mars and Ride the Comet were the first ever 2 songs I ever heard misclicking on YouTube and to this day at 21 I'm still blaring your music in my car when I'm out and about driving causing a muck! Will always be an Ayreon fan mate, hands down the most unique and fantastically produced music I've ever had the joy of listening to. Keep up the work legend! 👏

Flippin' AMAZING! GREAT job all the way around! Just one thing though: it's TOO SHORT! You have all these AWESOMELY TALENTED and SKILLED musicians and vocalists, and shove them all into something that takes less than fifteen minutes! I thought it should have been a full-on Rock Opera, an hour long at least! Ah, well, I shall make do. LOVE this! You're AWESOME! :)

They are all verY good . A speial "whaouu" for Tommy karavik, he is so intense, singing with all his body, giving this strong feeling of creation of the singing in the here and now. (Even IF it actually must be the same for the others), He makes me think to Floor Jansen; aND i'm very happy to meet her on this track..(SImone too).

Ik kwam hier door Floor, was op een ontdekkingsreis naar wat nl best rock zo al te bieden heeft, Hoop dat je genoeg ping ping krijgt om dit te blijven doen, zal vast niet meevallen.
