Ayreon - One Small Step Lyrics

"It is the 20th century. I am a little boy peacefully asleep. My father comes to wake me
so that I can witness an historic event in the finite story of mankind."

On an early summer morning, July '69
As I dream of the planets
I hear a voice softly whisper: 'son, it is time
It's happening soon'

It's a quarter to four now and he carries me down
To our place by the telly
I see lights on in houses all over town
For the man on the Moon

One small step for man
But a giant leap for mankind
The mighty Apollo prevailed
The Eagle has landed

I go back to my warm bed, back to my dreams
But not the one of the planets
I decided this morning I don't want to be
The man on the Moon

As I lie here in this cold tank, living a dream
I'm the last on the planets
I decided this morning I don't want to be
The man on Mars

    Lyrics in italiano:

    mentre sognavo pianeti

Happy 50th anniversary to Apollo 11!

    J.... T....

so I'm not the only one who immediately thought about this song today? xD

  9. R.... D....

its the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing today

  10. .... ....

Please, explain somebody to me why did the boy changed his mind about wanting to be an astronaut? I have a few guesses but can't really figure it out
P.S. I still will be happy if someone answers me months (or maybe years) later

    .... ....

Maybe he thought about a chance of something going wrong and him being left here to die alone, unable to get back to Earth. Man in the tank feels the same way because he knows exactly what it's like.

    .... ....

The last verse explains it. The man is reliving his past lives, in one of which he was a boy witnessing the moon landing. The man is the last human to live on Mars after all life on Earth was destroyed, so it's as if he sensed that he would end up in such a lonely situation

  11. G.... F....

This song in particular really reminds me of Camel.

  12. J.... G....

This might be the most beautiful song ever written, truly.

    J.... G....

Its a matter of taste but the only song that wins over this for me is Empire of the Clouds by Iron Maiden.

    [Edward Reekers, Lana Lane]

    O poderoso Apolo prevaleceu
    A Águia pousou

Eu sou o último no planeta

    A masterpiece!

  27. R.... N....

I hope I'm not offending any Floyd fans here (least of all Arjen himself), but deciding which guitar solo is better between this one (5:22) and the one in _Comfortably Numb_ is definitely not an easy task for me ...

    R.... N....

    Both are really good,

    R.... N....

The idea is not to concentrate on which one is better,
the idea is to simply enjoy.

    R.... N....

Renegade Notehead comoaring this to comfortably numb's solo is like comparing a porsche to a maserati. they're both beyond what I can touch and I admire borh

    R.... N....

    IMHO Ayreon's solo is better.

  28. G.... ....

Vangelis love this song for sure, great work Master Arjen

APP (Ayreon Polonisation Project): ,,Kosmiczny Migrator - Część I: Sekwencer Snów''

    4. ,,Jeden Mały Krok''

_Wiek XX. Jestem śpiącym spokojnie, małym chłopcem._
_Mój ojciec budzi mnie, bym mógł doświadczyć historycznego momentu, w skończonej opowieści o ludzkości._

    Wczesnym, letnim rankiem, Lipca '69
    Gdy śnię o planetach
Słyszę delikatny szept: ,,Synu, już czas
    To niedługo się wydarzy''

Kwadrans do piątej, gdy on znosi mnie na dół
    Do naszego miejsca, przy telewizorze
Widzę światła w domach, w całym mieście
    Dla człowieka na Księżycu

    Jeden mały krok dla człowieka
    Ale wielki krok dla ludzkości
    Potężny Apollo zwyciężył
    Orzeł wylądował

Wracam do mojego ciepłego łóżka, z powrotem do moich snów
    Lecz nie tego o planetach
Tego ranka zdecydowałem, że nie chcę być
    Człowiekiem na Księżycu

    Jeden mały krok dla człowieka
    Ale wielki krok dla ludzkości
    Potężny Apollo zwyciężył
    Orzeł wylądował

Gdy leżę w tym zimnym zbiorniku, żyjąc snem
    Jestem ostatni pośród planet
Tego ranka zdecydowałem, że nie chcę być
    Człowiekiem na Marsie

    {
    Jeden mały krok dla człowieka
    Ale wielki krok dla ludzkości
    Potężny Apollo zwyciężył
    }x2

Allan62T I can't believe that it is almost the 50th year anniversary soon, only 1 year left.

It's amazing that the three men were willing to risk everything for the progress of mankind.

Have you listened the speech that the president Richard Nixon had to prepare if the astronauts couldn't return back home and had to stay on the moon?
