My dad use to listen to this all the time when I was younger I remember watching the music video and think the song was so pretty I’m back now as a 14 year old and I and blown away by the beauty.

Love of nature is a great thing, and so is pushing against amoral materialism. But there also seems to be an ideology today that is against building and creating, which is very contrary to the dominant ideology of human history.

There's so many who don't see it.

This band would fit right in with the bands and singers of the 70's. I can see them sitting in a room with Jackson Browne, Neil Young and others.

This is one of my parents favorite bands, one day they brought me and my sisters to one of their concerts, at that time I was dealing with depression and was pretty suicidal, this song was probably the first one that made me love these songs, since I was bawling while listening to this song and just couldn’t help but think it’s a beautiful song.

What a beautiful, soulful song!! 😍😍

This song inspired me when I was in engineering school. I was going through some dark times and I really struggled to believe in myself and that I could actually be successful. After an abysmal start in the first two semesters mainly bc of a breakup of a seven year relationship, I made a promise to myself in the next year and made stellar grades like I never have before. I put in the work and started to believe in myself and it all worked out in the end. I’m now 7 years into my career and was recently promoted into a senior reliability engineer position. I’m so glad I didn’t give up on myself after all the struggles I had bc it reaped such awesome fruits in my life. Thank you to the Avett Brothers for your awesome music that inspires others to not give up on their dreams. Peace to anyone who reads this!

One of my favorite songs. I’m a teenaged girl mainly listening to pop but these kind of songs still mean the most to me. They touch my soul like 99% of pop songs will never do.

This song pushed me to follow my heart. I was trapped in a rut, working 60 hours a week for what felt like pennies, and completely a lone in a small town. I knew something needed to change when I started having suicidal thoughts and the same dream EVERY night of being chased without being able to lift my legs. With motivation from family, friends and this song I uprooted myself and moved to my dream location with a couple of bucks in my pocket and no plan. It was a struggle but 4 years later I am now happily married with a little one on the way and the job of my dreams. Don't second guess your heart, 'decide what to be and go be it'.

I know that this isn't even camparable to some the comments ive just read but it feels like to me that after I moved away from my friends and the girl that had a crush on me and me to her but this song alway reminded me of being still there with them, to come home, to see her one more time in school or to spend time with my best bud doing who knows what and like the songs says "i had a dream and I hope that I would see it"

I love the song, but he’s dead wrong about one line, “your life doesn’t change by the man who’s elected.” The economy is undergoing a correction. Immigration laws are becoming more severe. Racial relations regarding police are worse. Everything is changed by the government. Some for the better. Some for the worse. This promotes ignorance and gets people to not vote. Hitler’s Germany and Churchill’s Great Britain only differed in the man who was elected. (Don’t come at me with treaty of Versailles, etc, etc. I know ww2. You know it’s besides my point) Please don’t internalize that line people.

OBREY _ these are all true but how much do those things impact tomorrow? The change happens so slowly we barely see it in our lifetime. You work the same job, go to the same places around where you live, and we all have an internalized schedule. We are also an adaptable race, we do it naturally, you don’t notice the changes until you look at a long period of time.

This song inspired me to not kill myself. I was in some shitty motel room last Friday night and decided that I was done. It was randomly playing in the background on some satellite music station on a broken screen tv in my room. I stopped what I was doing immediately when I heard this beautiful song. Technically, the genre is Americana. Don't know if I agree with that or if it even matters but in terms of record companies and radio, that is the genre they fit the Avett Bros in.

It was magical, until they sold it to an insurance company. Ugh. I cannot believe they actually did that. Yeah, HFOD RFOP is now on tv commercials for a shady insurance company. I’m not sure what’s more upsetting, that they did that or that people think it’s ok and offered praise. Excuse me while I go throw up. What kind of world is this? I’m absolutely horrified. To think I had you guys up there with the Beatles. You guys doing that has ruined so much of what you were to your fans. Doing that was a massive mistake guys.

My parents and their close friends are all big fans of the avett brothers, so naturally I would always hear this song for the past 3 years when coming over, and although ive never shown it, I liked the song very much but i always told them "its eh. I like my music much better" (fall out boy, imagine dragons, etc.) Recently, a close family friend, who whenever i went to her house, would hear this song, got diagnosed with cancer. So I ecided to listen to the avett brothers, because it reminds me of her, since ive known her my entire life. This is my first time watching this video and I must say, this is a work of art. Its a shame only 1 million people have decided or stumbled upon it.
