Anyone else ever notice they didnt really do the screamo thing after this album?

Yeah they started kind of having a different sub-genre of metal for every album after this one. Pretty sweet actually!

This album was what got me onto avenged sevenfold. They are an incredible band with so many melodies and amazing harmonies. I would suggest to start here on anyone's journey upon discovering this band.

Wish they would play this live more.

The guitar solo at the end of the song is one of my all time favorites.

@Modesto Rosado Back when this album was recorded he was still okay, by okay I mean barely acceptable. Nowadays he outright sucks. 
I don't know why on earth A7X let that freak play leads on this song and "I won't see you tonight 2".
He sounds alright on this song but the kind of shoddy guitar work he has done on "I won't see you tonight 2" is plain atrocious.
I'm damn sure that they recorded his parts after multiple retakes.

@TheNocturnalEvil Dude, I did some more research on Richard Benson. As you said, the guy used to be a decent player but started suffering from arthritis in both of his hands. That explains why he got worse over the years. Regardless of whether or not he was capitalizing on his illness in recent years, it's a depressing story.

@Modesto Rosado He was diagnosed with arthritis in 2001 and this album was recorded in 2003.
So he essentially performed all those solos while suffering from arthritis. I kinda feel bad for that guy now.

@Agarthan Reaper higher is genius. And growing up in the same city as A7X, (huntington beach) whenever i listen to until the end it reminds me that these guys had lives like mine and probably hung out in the same places I do. Crazy to think about.

@Fungrt yes. i love until the end because in the bridge you can clearly see that he doubled vocals with jimmy the rev. also the melody thoughout the entire song is just amazing. also higher has an unbeatable solo. i agree with most song you said were underated like blinded in chains and sidewinder and unbound. unbound is avenged sevenfold in 2016 playing a song in 2007. it was prog even before avenged sevenfold was classified as prog. also sidewinder is absolutely one of the best songs ive heard. probably better than any netallica song. the outro alone is just perfection. blinded in chains is what i want from avenged sevenfold's new album. THRASSHHH

paradigm yes one of their best. and save me i dont even have to talk about it is a true 11 minute masterpiece and i love every second of that song. plus wicked end is sick but yes no one ever talks about that great sweep pick solo and that aammmaazing chorus

1. CoE (The album that defines Avenged, all tracks absolute masterpieces, no down time, no boredom anywhere)
2. A7X (first half is a little poppy for my tastes, but the second half is just absolutely incredible)
3. WtF (metalcore with much better production than St7T)
4. The Stage (awesome drumming from Brooks, and Exist)
5. Nightmare (first album without Jimmy, I'd say I put this one a tie with The Stage, both great albums)
6. DitR (Demons, Girl I Know, Tension, Dancing Dead, The Fight, Until the End, all bangers)
7. St7T (I love metalcore/deathcore, it's just rated this low because of terrible production)
8. HttK (don't even consider it their album, it's a tribute and it's extremely boring. Arin did nothing fun on drums)

JEOM 049 It's got sort of a melodic black or death metal vibe but it's not really genre specific. MGLA - Exercises in Futility I, Skeletonwitch - Burned From Bone, and Behemoth - Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer are all songs I'd reccomend cause they have that similar guitar work/melody combined with harsher vocals going on.
