Atlanta Rhythm Section - Quinella Lyrics

Oh, the quinella
I hit the jackpot
Finally, I got it all
Right when they had me
Backed up against the wall

Such a lucky fella
That's what I am
And I don't give a damn if I die
I hit the quinella
I picked a winner this time

So, break out the champagne
Let's have a party
I got money
And money was made to spend
Here's to the winner
Everybody loves a winner
Here's to all outsiders lookin' in
I was a rank outsider
Yes, I was
Oh, but not no more, honey

So come on, Cinderella
Let's take a long shot
We got a red-hot hand
Don't ask them questions
I'll take it any way I can

Ooh, sweet quinella
I hit a home run
That makes me one and oh
So, shake my hand
I'm the luckiest man you know

Everybody, break out the champagne
Let's have a party
I got money
And money was made to spend
Oh yes, it was
Here's to the winner
Everybody loves a winner
Here's to all outsiders lookin' in
I was a rank outsider (a rank outsider)
Yes, I was

Whoa, sweet quinella
I hit a long shot
Finally, I got it all
Right when they had me
Backed up against the wall

Look at this lucky fella
That's what I am
And I don't give a damn if I die
I hit the quinella
I picked a winner this time

Oh come on, break out the champagne
Let's have a party
I got a pocket full of money
I was made to spend
Here's to the winner
Everybody loves a winner
Here's to all outsiders lookin' in
I was a rank outsider
But not no more

I have always loved ARS. Saw them when i was in High School several times in Cincinnati, Oh in the Oh F Yeah!

  4. T.... W....

Got it when it came out, from my local music store just south of the arctic circle in northern Sweden. I was 19 and was building my first custom bike(chopper). 4 years later I moved to California. Now I've moved back but I'm still a chopper biker and still love ARS and southern rock. Like Joe Walsh; - Life's been good! ;)

Thanks for posting - great memories !

Another great track in the long list of great songs the ARS had. This is a very catchy tune, by 1981 the band had been around and recording for over 11 years.

  16. D.... ....

This is one of my favorite ARS songs. They were very underated as a band and never got the exposure or credit they deserved. To me, they were America's version of Bad Company (another awesome band in their own right), just give "Rough Diamonds" a listen and you'll hear the similarities. ARS definately had their own sound and there will never be another band like them. I miss Ronnie Hammond(RIP) and his incredible voice. And Barry Bailey, what a great guitarist.

    D.... ....

That's all so true. When I liked ARS as a kid, I didn't compare them to Little Feat, which I just did in my head. But that later Bad Co stuff matches well too

thanks for checking out the channel...Rockets..great band from Detroit..! Chuch Leavell-great player...ARS was also a very underated band..people overlooked them because of the hits but Barry Bailey is one of the all time great players..thanks for posting and checking out the channel!

Spent quite some time cruising your other music last night. The Rockets!? Very cool. Being a south Georgia boy, I used to buy anything recorded at Capricorn Records in Macon. Everything on that record label (RIP) was great. Chuck Leavell sat in and played on their second album that was recorded at Capricorn. Great stuff. I wore that album out in high school and got a chance to see them open for REO Speedwagon (High Infidelity tour) at the Omni in Atlanta on my b'day in 1981. Good times.

    thanks Anthony Dixon!

Hey DocRoc44 - You da man for all of these ARS uploads. "Here's to the winner. Everybody loves a winner. Here's to the outsider lookin' in." Thanks for bringing back some great memories. Keep 'em coming!

This is a KILLER song but unfortunately doesn't appear to be available anywhere other than on old vinyl through Amazon or eBay or the like. There must be copyright issues, as the album is out of print and doesn't appear to exist on CD. It certainly isn't on iTunes, so I'm grateful to have it here on YT.

    D.... K....

I just wish I could find my copy, I don't even recognize the cover art. But I played a rut in that record

    D.... K....

That is a terrible shame! This is a fantastic song!! First time I've heard it, possibly! I absolutely LOVE it!
