in fact its so good, im convinced he didnt even know what he was saying. going off everything he's written lyrically after it.

the lyrical content appeals to me the most. it's something they really lost after this album. it tears me up when i hear such predictable and repetitive words on the later albums. like for fucks sake, i truly feel like the majority of people that like ATG wouldnt even recognise the acuity of what he is saying. removal of ego, perception of earth as a singular consciousness, the cycle of life and death through a neutron star, karma, the mechanical nature of humans. seriously, this albums insane

They probably just wanted to go with a more stream-lined and thrashy approach. Even early on, it's clear that they love thrash, and with the direction Tompa took after AtG (and the Discharge cover at the end of the album) they also clearly love punk.

@quarbio Interestingly enough, I listened to this entire album last night on my ipod in complete darkness. I even thought to myself, "Man, this album sounds like it was inspired by psilocybin" (I myself have tripped twice on shrooms). So, you just confirmed that for me!

tomas's lyrics are phenomenal on this album, if only they had persisted with the psilocybin induced psychosis for the rest of their career. when shadows threaten to swallow your weak soul, the key of light, the solution of all, i saw it clearly behind the veil of reality. and as i dreamt of lilies white, in the shade of a birch, they withered in the frost of awakening. shroomers know the score, straight up.

@qartvelivar1 ATG are fucking gods but yes, A7X is also metal. I guess you could call them pop metal. as in they make POPular metal. they're definitely metal its just their clean vocals and popularity that make people call them otherwise. metal hasnt always had rough vocals and there are much stranger bands that are called metal. A7X is a gateway band. they're the ones who get people intrested in metal in the first place instead of green day.

If you the mid at the gates sound i'll go with terminal spirit disease. Graet sound with well structured song. For a more raw and free-minded sound i'll go with the red in the sky is ours. As for the vocal, me too at first it was pretty anoyng but after a couple of listenning I got used to it and now I think it fits perfectly with thw genre IMO. But anyway ATG fucking kick ass.

ah, when melodic death metal was good. Nowadays MDM all sounds the same and it all sounds bad. It's a shame, so much potential in the genre and it just died.

i like sots but i agree completely the magic that alf brought is gone there it is too sanitized and clean almost shallow in comparison the older stuff

I actually got into them that way. Well sort of the first songs I heard were The Scar and Suicide Nation. I bought SOTS then worked my way back. But WFIKTBD is my personal fave.

The first part "Fiery the Angels fell" is a quote from Bladerunner 'Fiery the angels fell; deep thunder rolled around their shores, burning with the fires of Orc'. Tompa does this shit sometimes. Like the first part of All Life Ends is from The Road Warrior. "My life fades the vision dims, all that remain are memories"

i think the sound of SOTS lost the feeling which is special for the rest of ATG. i tried, but i never got into sots.

Ahhhhh no. SOTS is thought of as one of the greatest DM albums of all-time. It may not be my favorite but it is a masterpiece none the less.

everthing except Slaughter Of The Soul is awesome.
the first is weird, but very rough, the second is still a bit weird but with a nice, brutal and dark tune. Terminal Spirit Disease record is more ordinary but the best sound-wise.

I think With Fear I Kiss The Burning Darkness is their best but I thought he may like SOTS better. I hate to say it but, it is alittle more "commercial" sounding.

Every album is great. This one is my personal favorite. You may like Slaughter of the Soul or Terminal Spirit Disease. Better production in general. Tompa, IMO, is in the top 3 to 5 best vocalist/lyricist in DM ever. Along with Dan Swano and Mikael Akerfelt.

Can someone tell me what are the best songs/albums to listen to from this band? I'm looking to find some more metal. So far this band has potential for me (sounds like carcass guitar parts and cannible corpse precussion)... Not sure I like this guy's vocals though.
