Association, The - Six Man Band Lyrics

Well, I'm a day at a time
I'm a day at a time
Well, I'm a seeker and knower
In a six man mind

'Cause I'm a traveling man
Yes, I'm a traveling man
Well, I'm a comer and a goer
In a six man band

Well, I'm a California man
My instrument in hand, I'm electrified
On a fast flying trip
Dirty laundry in my grip mostly drip-dry

We got the seventeen jewels that dictate the rules
And the time to fly as we're passing by
We just got the time to say hello
And then a fast goodbye

I'm a traveling man
Yes, I'm a traveling man
Well, I'm a comer and a goer
In a six man band

But is the background lyric "line up" or "light 'em up?" -- or both?

    P.... N....

@Andi Rosenthal To me it sounds like 3 syllables... light 'em up. But line up might be in there too, who knows?

    P.... N....

So if you watch the video for the Ed Sullivan broadcast of 11/9/69 when they performed this (as Seven Man Band) you’ll see why I’m hearing both...for much of the video they are choreographed in line. What a great song this is.

    P.... N....

@Andi Rosenthal Interesting! I'll have to check that out.

On this day in 1968 {August 31st} Dick Clark conducted a telephone interview with the Association's Terry Kirkman on his ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand'...
At the time the Association's "Six Man Band", also penned by Terry Kirkman, was at #57 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, two weeks later it would peak at #47 {for 1 week} and it spent 6 weeks on the Top 100...
Between 1966 and 1981 the California sextet had thirteen records on the Hot Top 100 chart; five made the Top 10 with two* reaching #1, "Cherish" for 3 weeks in 1966 and "Windy" for 4 weeks in 1967...
    * They just missed having a third #1 record when their "Never My Love" peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} in 1967; the two weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for both those weeks was "The Letter" by the Box Tops...
